Avatar n tn I guarantee you that he was taking supplements with high levels of protein and amino acids. They have been widely known to increase the chances of rhabdomyolysis. Anobolic steroids also increase the chances of this happening by potentiating protein synthesis thus rapidly increasing protein myoglobin in one's body.
Avatar n tn The NIH says, “Magnesium is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body… [It] is involved in energy metabolism and protein synthesis.” And according to our own Amy Campbell, “Results from three very large studies indicate that people who consume a diet rich in magnesium have a lower risk of getting Type 2 diabetes.” People with diabetes are more likely than those without to be low in magnesium. According to an article on About.
Avatar m tn Scientists reveal that high levels of the protein T-bet are prevalent in patients who successfully fight off the hepatitis virus (pictured). A single protein may tip the balance between ridding the body of a dangerous virus and enduring life-long chronic infection, according to a report appearing in the Journal of Experimental Medicine.
Avatar n tn Zinc is used as co enzyme and plays important role in various cell metabolisms, protein synthesis and insulin production, and improves immune system. Hope this helps.

Avatar n tn Bupropion (Wellbutrin) is a NDRI (norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake Inhibitor). Reuptake Inhibitors are thought to block the reabsorption (reuptake) of the targeted neurotransmitter by certain nerve cells in the brain. This theoretically leaves more of the neurotransmitter in the brain. If you have low levels of neurotransmitters to begin with these medications either will not work well or work for a while then stop working.
Avatar m tn Expression of one of these proteins (2’5’ oligo A synthase) results in activation of the second of these proteins (a ribonuclease) which can break down mRNA, and expression of the third protein (a protein kinase) results in inhibition of the initiation step of protein synthesis. These activities target viral protein synthesis, but also result in inhibition of host protein synthesis.

Avatar f tn Hey, I don't like to cook, and was so low on caloric intake, esp. protein, I missed out on a clinical trial because they thought I had chronic anemia.
