Avatar f tn Split peas contain 16 g protein per serving, spinach has 13 and chickpeas have 8 g protein/serving. Avocados have 1 g protein per ounce. A medium peach has 2 g protein and 149 grams of dried figs have 5 g protein. I love avocado smoothies, but avocados have a lot of calories, so you have to watch that. Peaches would be okay. You can make a smoothie using soy milk, and sugar free chocolate pudding mix, but the only protein you'd get is from the soy milk.
14652685 tn?1435693430 If you're under a doctor's care and have a specialist and have a specific disease condition, the experts on this would be nutritionists. I say this because you don't mention the name of your disorder or what the doctors recommend, and without knowing what's going on, we can't know what you're able to digest. Perhaps if you tell us more about what exactly is going on it would help.

Avatar n tn beans, legumes, nuts, and seeds. They are also naturally lower in fat too. Most of the fats they do contain are unsaturated and ALWAYS cholesterol free. If you really want to save yourself, and I know you can :) you MUST do research. You should watch the movie Vegucated which is free on YouTube and Hulu. There's also a movie called Forks Over Knives which I highly recommend. Books you could read ... One I love is called Veganist by Kathy Fredton. I found that in a local library.
Avatar m tn Brewer's yeast isn't a consistent source of B12. Nutritional yeast might be fortified with it, but brewer's yeast isn't. There are non-animal sources of B12, but how much of it actually gets into your system is in controversy. Spirulina, a fresh water algae, is very high in B12, but some don't believe it's well absorbed from it. Still, it's so high some has to get in.

973741 tn?1342342773 I completely understand the food texture thing. I've never been diagnosed with a sensory disorder, but I cannot handle the smell of yogurt (let alone taste it), can't eat raw tomatoes on their own (but if they are mixed in tabbouleh or salsa, I'm fine with them, and can't handle the flavor of cucumbers - if a cucumber has touched a piece of lettuce in a salad and then was removed, I still taste it and it is awful. I'm fine with pickles though.
Avatar f tn Great advice as always from the above poster. My mother is also diabetic and she gradually became a vegetarian. It has been so very good for her health. Her blood sugar is always great, her A1C levels are great. She also has autoimmune hepatitis and every time she has blood work her numbers keep getting better. Do what the above poster said, do as much research as you can and consult with a nutritionist. You have to know what foods are good for you since you have diabetes.

Avatar n tn There are 2 types of iron in our food sources, Heme iron and Non-Heme iron. Heme iron is from animal sources and Non-Heme is plant sources. Non-Heme iron has more iron then Heme iron , however, it does not absorbed well into our bodies so it is important to eat foods with Vitamin C and Heme iron foods to enhance absorption. For example, chicken with beans and a fresh orange; drink orange juice with the iron supplement; or have mashed potatoes with meat at a meal.

As a vegetarian you should be getting all your vitamins and minerals from the foods you ate except Vitamin B12 and maybe Calcium (if you have a history of bone disease in your family). Vitamin B12 supplementation you need to take because it comes from meat sources and it not available through vegetarian diet.
