Avatar m tn Albumin and total protein. Levels of albumin — a protein made by the liver — and total protein show how well your liver is making proteins that your body needs to fight infections and perform other functions. Lower than normal levels may indicate liver damage or disease. Bilirubin. Bilirubin results from the breakdown of red blood cells. Normally, bilirubin passes through the liver and is excreted in your stool.
14652685 tn?1435693430 Some sources have more complete proteins than others, and some are more digestible than others, but protein is protein and protein is always made up of real amino acids -- that's what protein is. But supplements aren't cheaper than food. If you truly can't afford to buy basic food, it's time to look into government assistance. The only really inexpensive protein sources are beans.

9990306 tn?1407113138 t need animal foods to get protein -- nuts, seeds, and beans are all excellent sources of protein. Soy is the most complete of vegetable proteins that you can make a lot of things with, but any bean combined with a whole grain usually gives you a pretty complete protein. You don't need a protein shake, nobody does, for proper health -- shakes are either a shortcut for people in a hurry or for people trying to add lean muscle. Otherwise, you should get plenty from your regular meals.
Avatar f tn ve seen them but Special K makes these single serving drink packets (like the Crystal Light ones) that you just put in a water bottle and drink and they make them with PROTEIN..their very delicious! I would double check with your doc to make sure their okay but they dont have aspartame in them which is good. Avacado, Asparagus, Whole Wheat products, Rice...and you can make a stir fry of high protein Veggies and mix it with some whole wheat pasta...tons of fiber and protein!
Avatar f tn Soy products/tofu are good sources of protein, however, if you have thyroid issues, you should not eat/drink soy. Beans and legumes are also good sources of protein, as are eggs, dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt) and whole grains. I don't eat soy, a lot of beans or legumes, so, unfortunately, I can't provide recipes, but you can do a search.
3113201 tn?1341780938 Chicken, fish and lean cuts of beef and pork are excellent sources of vitamin B-12, iron and protein, plus fish is chock full of healthy omega 3 oils. If opting for vegetarian protein sources, one must make sure to supplement vitamin B-12, which only comes from animal sources and is necessary for proper nerve function and energy production.
Avatar f tn If your not working out your body will store the protein and make you fat. Protein can be found in nuts and beans with rice to make a complete protein. But to answer your question yes it's safe just as long as there isn't any added chemicals.
Avatar f tn Thank you for the information. I will try high protein breakfast.
Avatar m tn I am trying to weight train to build muscle but am having difficulty finding sources of protein and eating balanced meals. What should I eat for breakfast? I am worried about eating just eggs (even 1 yolk + 2 whites) every day because I have a crazy amount of heart disease in every man in my family. also, what supplements should i be taking for nutrients i might be missing without dairy products or wheat products?
Avatar m tn Good sources of protein include lean meats, fish, poultry, nuts, seeds and legumes. Healthy carbohydrate sources include fruits, vegetables and whole grains. You might also consider buying a protein powder and drink shakes between your meals and after exercising. Personally i use QuickMass from Allmax Nutrition. I was was 118 lbs when i started it 1 month ago and now I'm 129.
4776875 tn?1359048764 First, what are you eating? Lots of sugar? Or whole grains. Because carbohydrates give us energy, they just have to be the right ones. As for protein foods, keep in mind some people don't do well without meat, and B12 is hard to get without it. And that's important for energy. But beans of all kinds are wonderful sources of protein, as are nuts.
Avatar f tn A problem my friend with Hep C and i have encountered is that consumption of animal protein caused an ammonia buildup. I would wake up to the constant smell of ammonia everywhere i went. Since i am mostly vegetarian, and only break this rule with fish a few times a month, i was careful to note that the ammonia smell only occurred after eating fish. My physician tested me and found that i definitely had an ammonia buildup and i should stop eating animal protein.
Avatar f tn Split peas contain 16 g protein per serving, spinach has 13 and chickpeas have 8 g protein/serving. Avocados have 1 g protein per ounce. A medium peach has 2 g protein and 149 grams of dried figs have 5 g protein. I love avocado smoothies, but avocados have a lot of calories, so you have to watch that. Peaches would be okay. You can make a smoothie using soy milk, and sugar free chocolate pudding mix, but the only protein you'd get is from the soy milk.
Avatar m tn The rice should be brown rice for maximum protein and nutrition; beans combined with any whole grain will give you a complete protein. Iron is not a problem for vegetarians -- there are many vegetable sources for it, including beets, parsley, dandelion greens, most green leafy veggies except lettuce, nettles, etc. The two nutrients hard to get for a vegetarian are L-methionine, an amino acid that's part of protein, and B12.
1285110 tn?1420147378 green leafy vegetables (such as spinach) and nuts. Good sources include bread, fish, meat and dairy foods Maganese: bread, nuts, cereals and green vegetables (such as peas and runner beans), tea. Molybdenum: Foods that grow above ground - such as peas, leafy vegetables (including broccoli and spinach) and cauliflower, nuts, tinned vegetables, and cereals such as oats.
Avatar f tn Try getting most of your daily requirement from animal and plant sources. These sources have added vitamin and mineral content beneficial to your growing body. For a 2,500 calories diet, plan on consuming no more than 750 calories as protein -- roughly 187 g of protein. Protein shakes are typically made from protein powders. Some protein powders may contain dangerous chemicals that can be hazardous to your health.
Avatar f tn ve been reading and been told, one of the functions of the liver is to regulate the amount of glucose, protein and fats that enter the bloodstream. It also processes vitamins and minerals. Like Iron. My iron is elevated so this dietician also said to limit red meats. Guess that has the most iron in it. And there are two kinds of iron. Seems like the animal iron sources, like red meat, are the ones to avoid.
591470 tn?1218975186 Are you eating protein in place of the carbs and maintaining an intake of 1500 calories per day? Besides genetic, loss of hair is either not enough protein or not enough calories to maintain your body. If that is not the case, then see your MD and get blood work done to see if there is a decrease of any other nutrients and be treated properly. If you are not eating properly due to the dieting then suggest you consume 1500 calories daily with protein sources (meat, dairy, egg).
Avatar f tn For the plant protein, you need to combine grains and nuts / seeds for essential protein have to be used daily such as rice and beans, pasta and beans, nuts to oatmeal, peanut butter and bread, and salad and nuts. As a vegetarian you need to supplement Vitamin B12 and calcium because you do not get enough for the body through the vegetarian food sources. Good sources of information are the American Dietetic Association website, www.eatright.org and Vegetarian Resource Group website, www.vrg.
Avatar n tn definetly eat a very high calorie protein diet if your looking to build nuscle not fat then i recomend working out your muscle and afterwards drinking a protein shake with things like milk, peanut butter, and banana make sure your eating healthy fats and lots of protein
Avatar n tn One or two protein shakes into your daily diet to increase your calorie and protein intake. Whole foods are the best sources of calories and protein, but if you have a naturally high metabolism, you may find it difficult to get what you need through whole foods alone. I also suggest buying Whey protein Concentrate NOT Isolate!! Avoid those with added sugars and preservatives. Add high calorie ingredients to your protein shakes to boost the calorie content.
Avatar n tn Threwout the school yaer, i would eat large ammounts of cheese, and penut butter, for my protein sources, but thats very high fat, and i gained a large amount of weight. For the past few months, ive been eating more eggs, but, im still having trouble with what to eat when im going away. If im planning on going away for the day, or im not gonna be home, finding somethign i can bring to eat can turn to be quite troublesome.
Avatar n tn you wanted to consume more fats and less protein, that action will lead to ketosis (due to excessive intake of fats) and weakened immune system (due to low intake of protein since protein is a major component of our body's defenses). on the other hand, high protein diet also has its negative side, it can result to kidney troubles and accumulation of ammonia and other substances that are harmful in our body. the real secret here is BALANCE DIET.
Avatar m tn m eating per day. What I did notice, and since have changed, is that I was eating too much protein. My BG levels had crept up to 150 and I had started eating these low carb high protein bars as snacks. Once I stopped eating those my BG levels came down to the 130's. I have since reduce protein amounts and I'm seeing fasting numbers in the 120 and under range. Any one else experience higher BG levels with too much protein?
Avatar f tn Against what one would think as common sense a low carb diet (high fat, moderate protein), along with regular and intense exercise, can effectively reduce cholesterol. A regular glass of red wine (remember moderation) may also help. Fats should be natural sources under such a diet (ie.
Avatar f tn Try making your own with peanut butter, nuts, avocado or other protein boosters.yogurt, milk or almond milk as protein sources. I wouldn't buy protein powders as you don't actually know what is in them besides what is listed like arsenic, lead, mercury. leafy greens are good sources of folate, a key nutrient that helps prevent neural tube defects. Making shakes with fruits and vegetables can also help you reach your dietary fiber intake goals during pregnancy.
Avatar m tn However, i have heard some people claim that it can trigger a gout attack since preventing gout is all about having a low protein diet, and having a high protein intake can increase your uric acid levels, on the other hand, some sources claim just the opposite and says its good for gout, since it is a dairy product, its protein is actually low in purine, like soy milk, and would come as a healthy diet alternative.
