532657 tn?1213131909 Preworkout Shake Start with 1 1/2 scoops of protein powder (about 30 grams) and 12 ounces of nonfat milk instead of water. This yields roughly 240 calories, 40 grams of protein, 16 grams of carbs, and 3 grams of fat. Toss in some fruit for flavor, or a tablespoon of peanut butter or almond butter for a creamier shake. These will boost calories, carbs, and fat, but they're good for your overall diet Buzz the concoction in a blender. Add ice if you like your shakes thicker.
Avatar f tn You can get protein fr a lot of different sources than just a protein shake. Beans, Greek yogurt, cheese, almond milk, etc. be careful w too many protein shakes bcuz of added unnecessary calories & too many protein shakes/bars can make you constipated.
Avatar f tn t know if I would be taking in enough calories. I added up just my breakfast/lunch/snacks and only come with 670 calories and with dinner maybe hit 1300? Would this be enough? I know all about if you don't eat enough calories, your body goes into starvation mode making you hold on to whatever fat is left and therefore not losing weight. I've really struggled allot on this and with my Grandmother being so sick, the stress got to me.
Avatar f tn i am losing the battle against calorie intake. I know you're not supposed to go over 2,200 calories per day..... but how? Every once in a while I go over and I'll feel super guilty. I do protein shakes, protein bars, healthy snacks and no meals and extra water. I don't regularly give in to cravings either. It is hard when all I can think about is my next snack. What do you do to stay under 2,200? Any recommendations to ease the pain of the calorie count?
1269982 tn?1271173219 If this is not the case, the protein meal shakes may have something to do with your weight gain. Protein shakes are actually not good for weight loss and are used primarily to gain body mass which may then be converted into muscle. Also certain brands of protein shakes actually have a high level of carbohydrates in them which could result in your weight gain.
Avatar f tn You have no reason to be drinking protein shakes at all. Walking isn't an exercise that requires additional protein, so you're just adding useless calories. Most Americans eat too much protein, not too little. If you were working out with resistance training, a shake might help put on muscle quicker, but if you're trying to lose weight, there's absolutely no purpose in protein shakes. And when you say non-fat foods, what do you mean?
Avatar n tn The key is adding calories, not just protein. If you substitute protein shakes for other foods that you normally eat that have actually MORE calories, then you lose weight. Your body does need some fats, too, and the healthy fats are the ones to go for. They can add calories quickly. Olive oil is great, and can be added in small amounts to most any food. Adding snacks throughout the day may be another thing that could help you. It is not clear if you are a type 1 diabetic or not...
Avatar f tn Before getting out of bed in the morning leave a bag of saltines next to you so when you wake up eat some crackers an lay there for 15 minutes it may ease it a little bit
Avatar f tn By this time I have consumed 100g of protein via shake and 40–60ish grams of protein via solid meal (depending on meal). I make up the other 70 grams via shake, chicken breast, tuna, low calorie protein sources because I am never really hungry at this time because I am so full still from the big solid meal. The point is, no need to eat unnecessary calories for food we are not really going to enjoy, so I prefer shakes with a chicken breast before bed. Make sure to consume at least .
Avatar m tn ve been eating between 1000 and 1500 calories a day and making protein shakes and have increased protein intake to approx. 80g/day. I lost 8 pounds the first month, but since that time I've now gained 6 pounds....I'm sedentary and for health reasons it is difficult for me to get much exercise, I do walk two or three times a week for about 20-25 minutes. How can I be gaining weight? Is it possible that the increase in protein is causing muscle gain?
Avatar f tn ve been having SlimFast shakes, about 200 calories each, I mainly consider them nutritional protein shakes as they have a lot of protein and vitamins/minerals. I used to have cereal or toast for breakfast and was hungry soon later and was not able to function very well. But having a shake for breakfast, it really stops the hunger for hours and I'm able to function very well.
Avatar m tn Try feeding him food of high nutritional value so he gets as much protein and calories as he needs. For example, having a protein source each meal --- meat / fish or cheese or yogurt; with a carbohydrate --- bread, pasta, rice, cereal; and a fat ---- pat of butter or mayonnaise if you made a sandwich. Good protein sources are meats, chicken, fish, beef, pork, etc.; and dairy products such as milk, yogurt, cheeses, pudding, and ice cream. It is good he eats pork and chicken.
Avatar f tn Nut butters Avocado Include lots of protein too for your muscles Maybe have 2 protein shakes a day AS WELL as your normal meals. Eat 5 times a day still so you're metabolism is still good Have a hot glass of milk before bed at night (full fat) it will help you sleep too. Add a tablespoon of olive oil to your meals.
Avatar m tn To all of those out there that just started, you would not believe the difference 100 clean hours makes if you hydrate and use other tools we all talk about (amino acid protein shakes, immodium, gatorade, multi vitamin, etc). You think clearly, you look back and dont recognize that person, the dicisions you made, the A$$hole you are to people when you are on them without knowing. I feel fatigued still but totally clear head.
Avatar m tn For fast weight gain, try protein shakes and specialty foods geared towards bodybuilders in the 'bulking' phase, as well as refined carb-heavy foods like pasta and bread, and high fat snacks like cheese and preserved meats. I also highly reccomend peanut butter. Add three teaspoons of peanut butter a day to your diet and you'll be heavier in a flash.
926296 tn?1244029537 It has nothing to do with you masturbating. Are you active? Play sports? Always doing something? If you are burning more calories than you are taking in then you won't gain weight. Go to your local vitamin store and ask them what they suggest. I know a lot of guys who take whey gainer, cryatine, protein shakes, etc. and it's worked well for them building muscle mass. Also, I heard eating lots of chicken and tuna helps too. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I still drink protein shakes, not to loose weight, but for extra calories & all the other good stuff in them, lol
1655866 tn?1320498966 Absolutely that's too low; even if you weren't exercising that would be far too little. Your body will be catabolising muscle to get the energy it needs, which will lower your metabolic rate - this is commonly referred to as a body in starvation mode. I see from your profile that you are overweight and working to correct this - well done for making the decision, and congratulation on your progress so far!
776302 tn?1241091853 In addition, I LOVE the protein bars and have found they are lower in calories, higher in protein and less expensive than most protein bars in department or health food stores. I've also used their vitamins and skin care, lift off tablets and powdered chicken soup. Overall, I still count calories, select lean meats, fresh/frozen fruits and vegetables, low-fat or non-fat dairy and whole grain breads/pastas.
Avatar n tn As a result of my hypothyroidism, I have developed and eating disorder over the years which I am finally working on. My nutritionist, who I do like, wants me to drink whey protein shakes (1 per day) to get my protein levels up. A friend of mine with hypo told me to STOP drinking them, and considering I am on new medication (Armour-2 grains) and gaining weight with recurring hypo symptoms (please, do not tell me to eat less, I am eating under 1300 calories a day), she may be right.
