Avatar f tn I went from being a vegan for 40 years to eating red meat in the last year. Everyone is different. I do much better eating red meat. My hemoglobin has been boosted by it. I'm within range now and that's a miracle. I seem to process it just fine at stage3/4. Not as weak as I was. Lentils have tons of protein and natural iron. 35% to be exact. Trail and error to see what works best for you may be the thing.

You can start the day in place of coffee with milk and protein supplements. Can have more eggs for breakfas. Increase the meat in your diet, soya, cheese, tofu, sprouts etc. Gaining weight by healthy food habits is recommended rather than deep fries, sweets, cholesterol, etc. Take care!

Some tips for additional calories: If she likes pasta, then add meat or cream sauces to the pasta instead of plain tomato sauce or plain pasta. Add dry milk to oatmeal, mashed potatoes, gravies, creamed vegetables, and creamed soups (add additional meats to soups). Use all fat dairy products and no low fat foods so she gets the calories she needs.

Avatar f tn Soy products/tofu are good sources of protein, however, if you have thyroid issues, you should not eat/drink soy. Beans and legumes are also good sources of protein, as are eggs, dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt) and whole grains. I don't eat soy, a lot of beans or legumes, so, unfortunately, I can't provide recipes, but you can do a search.

As for protein foods, keep in mind some people don't do well without meat, and B12 is hard to get without it. And that's important for energy. But beans of all kinds are wonderful sources of protein, as are nuts.
