Avatar n tn s no doubt a good quality protein supplement will help build bigger muscles -- the best is a good whey protein isolate, but there might be a reaction to the dairy -- but yes, you might pay a price. It depends of what you prefer, big muscles or health. The workout is fine, but taking any supplement that exaggerates intake of any nutrient so you get bigger muscles from that workout could lead to problems way down the road.
1415174 tn?1453243103 Yes I agree that it is amazing that most people complain about getting many health problems but don't think it could be related to diet. I have been on a very low fat, whole plant based diet for the last 2 years. This is after much reading and now I can't go back to eating the fatty western diet. I don't even care for it. It is interesting how the taste buds change fairly quickly even after a long time of having a bad diet.
Avatar m tn His breakfast consisted of eggs, a piece of wholegrain toast and protein shake. His snack would be another protein shake. If he wanted extra fuel before a workout, he would add a banana and a scoop of peanut butter to it. His lunch and dinnertime meals would always consist of a lean source of protein and a serving of carbs such as rice, baked potato or yam fries.
Avatar m tn Nutrition is a very important component for good health, and an improper diet can cause CAD and heart problems in the long term. You may want to consult with your doctor to bring your physical conditioning to an acceptable level with a diet and exercise protocol. I don't know the significance of the ulcer for your low BMI, but that may need an intervention as well.
Avatar f tn Even though TSH is a pituitary hormone that is affected by so many variables that it is inadequate as a diagnostic for thyroid problems, when a TSH is that high, it likely means that you are hypothyroid. At best TSH is an indicator, to be considered along with more important indicators such as symptoms, and also the levels of the biologically active thyroid hormones, free T3 and free T4.

Avatar n tn again (as I seem to state in all my posts so far LOL) check with a doctor. If there is a history of GI problems in your family you may become more suseptable than most people to problems. You might was to be checked for hernias, tumors (because of the lumps), gallstones, bacterial overgrowth in the small intestines, and maybe throw in allergy tests for every food allergy known to mankind! LOL It is possible to develop an allergy to something you previously didn't have a problem with.
Avatar m tn A high C-Reactive protein can be an indication of infection, inflammation, dental problem, arthritis, increased risk of heart problems, increased risk of cancers etc. A high C-Reactive protein should be evaluated ASAP. Many a times AST (SGOT) and ALT OR SGPT (both are collectively called transaminases) rise without any cause.

Avatar m tn I have a question whether I should or not supplement my diet with protein shake. I have read good and bad things about whey protein. Some studies indicate it is good and some say its unhealthy. Unhealthy protein supplements especially whey is from cow's given growth hormones, steroids, antibiotics and etc. The healthy one is organic and cold processed and that is promoted as best.

Avatar f tn Other common health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, pancreatitis, hemolytic anemia and thyroid disease, can also cause liver transaminase elevations. Most liver diseases are characterized by greater ALT elevations than AST elevations except cirrhosis and alcohol abuse. ALT also rises in bile duct obstruction due to stone or tumor. In all liver related cases AST and ALT are pretty high, often double or more than double the normal value.
Avatar m tn One thing you can look into is protein. Is your nephew getting enough protein? Lack of protein can cause liver problems along with other things that can cause bad health.

Avatar n tn Make sure he is getting enough Carbs, cereal, whole grain bread, he needs some fats , protein ,if he is tired then he could be deficient in vitamins so give him a good multiple supplement with anti-oxidants Vit C and BComplex some fish oil also can be good .This should help with his energy level, if he looses weight and is fatigued I would suggest a check up at the Doctors to make sure nothing else is going on ...
Avatar f tn So, if your moving more and this helps- this i s helping your thyroid convert energy. So, I wonder if you ate more lean protein if this would help your blood pressure go lower as it would help your thyroid convert energy? Now, I wonder if since fiber hurts the body to convert T4, if when I ate all the " high fiber" ( gluten, etc) that my body was not able to convert the T4, so it made my thyroid go lower.
