I will eat raw vegetables on a regular basis. As far as meats, eggs, etc...I would not take the risk of getting sick from eating these foods uncooked. I've never heard doing so would benefit OVCA patients.
I transitioned from prescription food to limitied diet canned food to homemade, but not raw. My dogs also have allergies/sensitivities. I've found that since they've been on the homemade, their vomiting and diahhrea have all but stopped.
This includes the obvious meats, poultry, and fish, but anything that comes from an animal also like cheese, milk, eggs, chicken soup, things cooked in chicken or beef stock or flavored with it, etc. It's certainly a lifestyle choice that is not for everyone. Be aware that there's a lot vital nutrients that we take in from animal products that you will need to find in other places. Iron, Calcium, Protein, B12, and some others are necessary to be healthy.
what i wanted to share is the importance of hormone-free and antibiotic-free eggs - i was on high protein diet when i first got sick - heaps eggs chicken and red meat - i wasn't eating organic at the time and i feel the hormones in the meats may have contributed to my thyroid conditon later. whether or not, i know the chemicals can't be doing us any good. just free range organic eggs please. (you can see and taste the difference!
Agreed its not bad when they are fully cooked. However stay away from raw ones or things made with raw ones like mayo and certain dressings.
There are a lot of risks w/raw eggs. You can get the same protein from eating a cooked egg without the chance of getting sick.
Good morning! I got my husband to read all the postings from yesterday! He kept saying "this is so cool!!", but of course when I tried to get him here on his own he refused! BUT he did ask me to ask every one about their diets. Our doctor has placed him on a 40 gram protein diet. He has seen the dietitian and is now feeling a bit sad and overwhelmed with all the restrictions that have been placed on his diet.
Raw nuts help me a lot, raw almonds and sunflower seeds especially. Try to avoid ones that have been fried in oil or heavily salted.
There's no such thing as a food with NO protein, at least not one that will healthfully maintain a dog for its lifetime. Do a Google search for "diets, renal failure dogs" and you will come up with a wholle host of websites that have recipes for home cooking for dogs with kidney issues. This is what you need, since dogs in renal failure need as little protein as possible in their diet because their kidneys can't process it.
I too have a raw stomach from eating raw veggies. I also have trouble digesting nuts now. I get a terrible feeling of dread after eating nuts. My stomach struggles and keeps me up at night with a reflexive action. I have been told that the stomach weakens from emotional turmoil. But, I think that diet can have a lot to do with the stomach weakening anyway. Chinese Medicnine recommends warm foods always. It takes heat to digest food in the stomach.

But, I'd want to know if this is safe for a dog, and if so how much of a dosage to give her to jump-start her appetite. Also - protein - she needs more protein and as long as her appetite is low, I was wondering if it would hurt her to give her some protein, like you get in those "protein shake" mixes. Once again normally intended for human consumption and normally used by people trying to build up strength or muscle for athletic competition.
I don’t think either are necessarily wrong, but I when I see people promoting “recipes” or raw diets without recommendations or oversight from veterinarians, it bothers me and I truly believe some of these pets are at risk for a multitude of problems. Similarly, when people dismiss the potential human health risk of Salmonella, I believe they are doing a disservice to people who don’t understand the potentials risks. So…now that I am off of my soapbox…what are your thoughts?
My problem is losing weight like mad, so I have to supplement with some animal protein from time to time.
3 servings of fruit (avoid juice) and 3 servings of dairy, plus a couple of servings of whole grains, the protein; eggs are an excellent source of protein and vitamin B12; be sure to add good fats that make you feel satisfied. Olive oil is great; I don't care for the taste of it, though, so I use either sunflower, safflower or peanut oil. For breakfast, you might try a hard boiled egg (protein/fat), 1-2 slices of whole grain toast (protein) with peanut butter (protein/fat) and sliced banana.

I rely in dairy, meats, eggs and fish to fulfill my fat and protein requirements. My only carbs come from green veggies and nuts in moderation. I see that you are vegetarian/vegan so meat/poultry is out of the question but do you eat fish? Eggs? Those are two good ways to add fat to your diet. I avoid soy but I suppose it is also a great plant based protein, not sure how much fat is in it though. It can be hard to restrict carbs.
I saw your post and read the article on drinking too much water, but got called away from the computer and didn't have a chance to comment on it, last night... I'm sorry about that; I'll try to get back to it. While drinking too much water can be an issue, judging from your recent labs, I'd say that your symptoms of hypothyroidism are really coming from hypothyroidism, even though it's possible you are drinking too much water.

I had laporoscopic for a cyst when I was 18 and I hardly remember the recovery, side from the nausea from the anaesthetic. I guess being young really helps with recovery!! To be safe I'd tell them you will need a week off. Good luck!!!
If you have no food aversions you are very lucky. Just remember to stay away from alcoholic drinks, and raw or foods that are not well done...moderation with everything. Eat yogurt, eggs, protein shakes, lots of fruits even dried fruits as snacks, saltine crackers. Eat every 2 hrs to keep nausea at bay. Fluids...

Are you being treated by an endocrinologist or a doctor with a different speciality? While dropping your TSH from over 300 to ~5 in just over a month is a huge change you are still on the hypo range of the TSH. Yes, being hypo can really mess up your periods - thyroid really interacts with estrogen. Did your doctor run a complete thyroid panel on you with antibodies? Any clue why you went so hypo after pregnancy?
Mine is little different because where ever I am at this smell stays in, my room , at work and in my car.. and the smell changes all the time it depends what I eat. I also get thursty If I dont drink water. I start to get a dry throat and mouth... If i drink anything else that is not water my breath gets worse.. please help!
