9990306 tn?1407113138 First, how do you know you have a protein deficiency? Did a doctor or nutritionist test you and tell you that, or are you just assuming? As for being vegan, if you're going to do that you have to know more than others how to eat properly. You don't need animal foods to get protein -- nuts, seeds, and beans are all excellent sources of protein.
14652685 tn?1435693430 If you're under a doctor's care and have a specialist and have a specific disease condition, the experts on this would be nutritionists. I say this because you don't mention the name of your disorder or what the doctors recommend, and without knowing what's going on, we can't know what you're able to digest. Perhaps if you tell us more about what exactly is going on it would help.
Avatar f tn Split peas contain 16 g protein per serving, spinach has 13 and chickpeas have 8 g protein/serving. Avocados have 1 g protein per ounce. A medium peach has 2 g protein and 149 grams of dried figs have 5 g protein. I love avocado smoothies, but avocados have a lot of calories, so you have to watch that. Peaches would be okay. You can make a smoothie using soy milk, and sugar free chocolate pudding mix, but the only protein you'd get is from the soy milk.

If you really want to save yourself, and I know you can :) you MUST do research. You should watch the movie Vegucated which is free on YouTube and Hulu. There's also a movie called Forks Over Knives which I highly recommend. Books you could read ... One I love is called Veganist by Kathy Fredton. I found that in a local library.

Avatar m tn Hi Iris~I am not too familiar with the vegetarian form of B12, I have always been under the impression that B12 is best when it is derived from sources such as liver. The one non-meat form of B12 that I DO know of and I take myself, is in the form of "Brewers yeast" Brewers Yeast has ALL the B vitamins in it, not to mention the amino acids, and the Glucose Tolerance Factor mineral, Chromium. I love how it tastes, I put it on my cottage cheese and I just love it.

Non-Heme iron has more iron then Heme iron , however, it does not absorbed well into our bodies so it is important to eat foods with Vitamin C and Heme iron foods to enhance absorption. For example, chicken with beans and a fresh orange; drink orange juice with the iron supplement; or have mashed potatoes with meat at a meal.
