Avatar n tn We did allergy testing on her, and she is allergic (not extreme) to milk amongst other foods. Time has passed, and I have been giving her some milk and other foods she was allergic to. She has been doing fine eating those foods. She still does not like milk. She will eat yogurt and cheese, but not all the time. I have been giving her some calcium medicine for kids that the doctor told me to give her. What else can I do about the calcium? Calcium helps strengthen the bones and teeth.
Avatar f tn Well, let's see. Greek style yogurt isn't any different than any other yogurt, it just tastes different. And most commercial yogurt has no probiotics at all as they're killed during pasteurization. Only the better health food store yogurts have them as they're added back in after pasteurization. Beef and dairy are pro-inflammatory, and neither are true foods -- the only dairy for humans is mother's milk and no mammal tries to force freed other animal's milk to adults.

Avatar f tn Only buy organic soy products, avoid the soy based additives in so many foods such as TVP and hydrolyzed protein and soy extract and such -- the more processed any food is, the less healthful it is. Also remember that soy is a common food allergen, so be alert for that possibility. What you need are a few good books on nutrition, since nobody really knows what's best to eat and there are many theories about it.

Avatar n tn I have heard about using 100% Whey protein powder and about adding dry milk powder to his milk and other foods. (He will drink milk, but mostly only if it has Ovaltine in it, which we only put in about 1 TB, not 4 like the directions say.) My question is: Is the whey protein powder safe to use, and if so, how much. Or, should I just try the powdered milk? Also, do you have any other suggestions? Thank you!

Avatar n tn One or two protein shakes into your daily diet to increase your calorie and protein intake. Whole foods are the best sources of calories and protein, but if you have a naturally high metabolism, you may find it difficult to get what you need through whole foods alone. I also suggest buying Whey protein Concentrate NOT Isolate!! Avoid those with added sugars and preservatives. Add high calorie ingredients to your protein shakes to boost the calorie content.
Avatar f tn Foods like oatmeal help keep milk supply up, I think protein too. With my first I took fenugreek and my milk came in within an hour of taking it, maybe look into it.
Avatar n tn Yogurt and egg usually digest well regardless of illness. They are protein sources and need to be eaten daily. Is he drinking milk? That will give him protein and you can add ice cream to it as a milkshake (milk, fruit, and ice cream blended) or yogurt smoothies (yogurt, fresh fruit, and frozen fruit) for additional calories and protein. Make sure he is eating a protein food each meal (meat, fish, cheese, or yogurt).
Avatar f tn Silk is high in sugar. Don't know about the almond breeze. If you're comparing Silk soy to almond milk that's a matter of preference. I prefer Edensoy soy milk because it uses rice syrup instead of sugar -- it's old school. A little history -- Silk was developed by a now defunct company called White Wave, which was a company that made tofu and a lot of wonderful and very healthful tofu products and tempeh.
Avatar n tn Start with ¾ breast milk and ¼ Pedisure or Milk, go to half and half, then ¼ breast milk and ¾ Pedisure or Milk, and finally to all Pedisure or Milk. You can do each mix every 3-4 days as long as she is accepting the mixture. She will get used to the Pedisure or Milk taste gradually. Suggest trying other dairy sources, such as yogurt and cheese, too once she accepts milk and or Pediasure. Hoped this helped you.

Avatar m tn and just tend to steer clear of 'textured vegetable protein' [tvp] (which is really textured soy protein), it really defeats the purpose of choosing soy over wheat/ meat - the manufacturing process is dodgy... maybe a bit is alright... but it's largely a bad deal. i switched to coconut milk, and i eat a lot of polenta, potato, rice, beans, chickpeas. i have occasional soy sauce cause there's just some things i won't miss out on anymore!
