Avatar m tn With regards to Cholesterol, there are divided camps on this. Many people are beginning to question why their disease is still increasing even though they've dramatically lowered their lipid levels. There are certainly a large number of people with national average cholesterol levels, or even lower who have heart disease. There is a lot of research ongoing to try and understand what exactly is going on with lipids and heart disease.
451075 tn?1210258648 Yes, it's totally safe. I have used low-carb diet for long time. I eat alot of protein (all meat and fish (as long as it is fresh and un-contamintated), cheeses and eggs). It's known now that eggs do not have this bad influence on cholesterol as thought before. It's also known that fat doesn't make you fat. So, I never look at calories, I only look at carbohydrates. Besides the protein I eat alot of vegetable (except high carb veggies like carrots, borccoly etc).
500923 tn?1210168927 Low carb diet - no bread - pasta - flour - limit whole grains - no sugar natural or artificial. Brown sugar Ok once in a while. Limit fruits high in sugar! Alcohol is sugar too. Limit milk products Maintain a high green veggie diet with lean "good" protein meats - hormone free! Nuts are good and yogart - I know it has milk - but it has many other supporting factors. It a tough change but you will adjust well and won't crave the other stuff after a while.
Avatar f tn Low carb no carb diet! It's perfectly safe.
Tbd 1. Low carb, adequate protein, fat for energy balance - otherwise known as ketogenic of low carb diet. In this diet carbs are typically restricted to 30g or less per day. This diet also includes abundant non-starchy, non-sweet vegetables and plant foods. 2. Very low fat, adequate protein, high carb. This is the plant based and even vegan diet that some are promoting. This diet does not have processed foods.

Avatar f tn Eat less calories than you burn. Have protein rich diet and low carb diet. Protein is important for optimal fat burning rate. It help to control hunger and make you feel full for longer. Avoid soda, dietry fat and sugar.
Avatar n tn t say what you mean by a low carb diet. I assume you mean a high protein diet, but those diets have very little clinical evidence behind them -- for most of history the only people who ate a high protein diet were those who settled in places where plant food didn't grow. They got used to it but didn't live very long, either. When they were conquered, though, and fed a lot of grains, many got diabetes.
6990909 tn?1435275816 I have PsA so am always looking for dietary stuff to help. I looked it up to see what it is and it said high fat, adequate protein, low carb diet. I do the low fat, low carb, minimal dairy, no sugar diet right now. What kind of fats are they talking about? The treatments (Humira, Methotrexate, ect) are the same for RA and PsA so Im thinking dietary treatment may be similar. In terms of supplements, I do the high doses of Tumeric and Krill oil.
Avatar m tn Harvard researchers put pre-obese people (they had just lost 10-15 percent of their body weight) on three different diets—a low-fat, high-carb diet; a low-glycemic diet with fewer carbs; and a high-protein, high-fat, Atkins-style diet. Each participant ate the same number of calories on each diet, yet at the end of the study, they found that people burned the most calories at rest while on the Atkins diet.
Avatar f tn It is quite opposite to the establishment high carb low fat diet. This diet needs to be high fat, moderate protein and low carb. Essentially the carbs are replaced mostly with fats, and with some additional protein.
Avatar f tn This is going to really get Gymdandee going, which is fun, but there's no such thing as the Paleo diet. It's made up by people trying to make money. I don't know if there are any long-term studies that would give some idea how well it works for health and long-term weight loss, but nobody in the world eats like that naturally and nobody ever did. Certainly no "paleo" people. And "paleo" diets aren't all the same.
Avatar f tn The most effective diet is one that incorporates plenty of lean protein (chicken, fish, lean beef, beans, etc), low/no fat dairy, 5-7 servings of vegetable daily, 1-2 servings of fruit, whole grains, plenty of water and no junk food, which includes anything made with processed (table sugar) and white flour, white rice, etc. Has to be lifestyle changes; not just a "diet". You have to also incorporate a moderate exercise program.
Avatar m tn Dr. W. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "fat and happy." Well, it's not just folklore. The same carbs that make you fat (and contribute to diabetes and other problems) also make you happy. It's simple science: Carbs allow more of the amino acid L-tryptophan to penetrate your brain. The L-tryptophan triggers your brain to make more serotonin, and the serotonin makes you feel happier. It's as simple as that!
Avatar f tn Food, in other words, is way more complex than any diet recognizes but if you want to do low carb eat high protein foods. These would include, again, nuts, seeds, legumes, and animal foods.
Avatar m tn Eat a low carb high protein diet and exercise with both cardio and resistance training; resistance training is essential. A low carb diet like Atkins is one great way to reduce body fat, and because of the high protein, you wont lose muscle. However you can use any other type of high protein diet plan, as long as you keep total calories in control.
Avatar n tn I am also afraid of the Hight Protein, High Amino Acids Whey Powders so I was wondering if there is a diet or medicine or something I can ask my doctor for. He doesnt seem to be very attentive to my weight problem. In fact,he always advocates being thin so as to not to tax my liver, but I am now beyond thin... I don't know if I will be able to survive an illness being THIS thin.
1054985 tn?1257173275 I was eating low carb when I was dx'd. I wondered if it was the diet that cause my Optic Neuritis! That was before I understood ON. I am back on low carb just to try and take care some of the bloating I have trouble with. I figured out if I give my injection in my leg rather than my stomach it helps some. At least my tummy is not sore!
Avatar f tn You will find that you could sustain your energy better as well. Read labels and watch net carb (total carb-fiber). Should be 40g for guys and 20g for women on a daily basis.
Avatar m tn I have a 9 year old golden retriever that was just diagnosed with histocytic sarcoma. I saw on an earlier post that a high protein low starch (anti-cancer) diet was recommended and Aleda Cheng indicated that she would post the diet if wanted. The person did not request the diet, but I would be very interested in the diet. Does anyone have any information on this diet? I know the prognosis for my dog is not good, so any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn Can somebody explain to me why a low carb diet us felt to be better for those with a dysautonomia?
Avatar n tn Low carb diets have been shown to be unhealthy long-term. Veggies are all carbs. Fruits are carbs. Complex carbs such as whole grains are the best source of long-term energy. Too much protein, especially animal protein, can cause kidney problems and is linked to a higher rate of cardiovascular disease.
Avatar n tn many people make the mistake of removing fats from their low carb diet, which then causes gluconeogenesis. The trick is eating low carb with moderate protein and balance of calories from healthy fats.
