Common Questions and Answers about Protein diet gas

Avatar n tn You still haven't said what you're eating, and you say above you're not eating carbs and then that you're eating carbs. The carbs to avoid are the simple carbs, the carbs to eat are the complex carbs, especially vegetables. But let's say when you increased protein you started eating a lot of dairy -- that could explain the gas. So could anything you're either allergic to or intolerant to.
1036532 tn?1335409367 Now that my diet it stable, I have noticed that I have the most awful, disgusting, rotten-smelling gas. My daily diet is extremely healthy, with good amounts of protein, fruits and vegetables, and calcium. I get at least two or three servings of dairy a day, through yogurt, milk, and cheese. Everybody gets gas, but there is no reason my colon should smell like something's died there. I know the Hydrogen Breath Test is extremely accurate in most cases for Lactose Intolerance.
Avatar n tn Any sudden change of your dogs diet can cause gas as does feeding of too many table scraps. Smelly gas is normal in dogs but if its frequent then something is wrong in his/her diet. I recommend a high protein, low fiber diet. The cheaper brands of dog food are made with alot of filler and less protein, that could also cause excess gas. Especially older dogs need a good quality dog food. Good Luck!
Avatar f tn Is there an over the counter drug that will help my gas and the smell it produces, it is really embarrassing. I am 59 and female. I have changed diet to try to eat healthier, and am eating more fruits and vegetables, I am not sure if they add to the gas and smell of it.
Avatar f tn Has anyone noticed the inordinate amount of gas after an afib episode? Maybe it is the medication causing the gas? I constantly am burping throughout the day. Before my afib attack I was chronically constipated. Don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.
Avatar n tn The only thing i can imagine to include as a possible factor is the fact that that same week this started, i started a high protein diet consisting of protein bars for breakfast and then protein shakes blended with banana and flax for snack with normal meals for breakfast and dinner. No fever, no blood in stools, the left side from the ribs down to hip bone spasms and there feels like blockage pain. I obviously have stopped the diet but still not regular.... can anyone help?
1683956 tn?1309304550 You could very well be having the gas because of your diet. Try keeping a food journal and eliminate one food at a time. It could be dairy products at first. If you feel no relief doing that then you know dairy is one of the problems. If you do feel relief you know it's a problem. Or, you could start with grain foods like breads, cookies, cereals. I know this must be so frustrating.
Avatar f tn The last 6 months have been off and on severe stomach aches that are more gas related as I do not have an urge to throw up just severe gas pains and stomach cramps and Kaopectate helped some. I have been to my internist and they have tested everything except my colon. All the tests of the stool, urine, ultrasound of gall bladder all came back negative - healthy liver, gall bladder, pancreas and kidneys.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I am vegan and use a vegan protein powder to supplement 20 grams extra a day. So my total protein is about 75-80 grams (not 95g). I read that you can get too much growth hormone (which is good for building muscle) but it creates insulin like growth factor (ILGF). Too much ILGF can potentially cause cancer. So that is what I am asking. What has anyone read about this.
Avatar m tn There are some bacteria in the gut that produce hydrogen sulfide gas. This gas has a smell of rotten eggs. Most of this gas comes from sulfites a person consumes, which is a part of all preservatives. Sulfites are present in all juices, molasses, yellow dye in ready made food stuffs, and red wine. Sulfites are present in lesser amounts in mashed potatoes made from dry powder, pickles, tinned shrimp, cookies, crackers, and readymade pie dough.
Avatar n tn I have constant Gas. I have eliminated things from my diet but nothing seems to help.
5915949 tn?1396188227 I went to my ob and it was due to low blood sugar not enough protein in my diet and lack of sleep. So my OB suggested string cheese as snacks and eating more frequently. There's also these chocolate milk drinks they sell in grocery stores and even gas stations called Rockin Refuel. It has extra protein and its yummy! I havent been dizzy like that since drinking these and taking docs advise.
221122 tn?1323011265 For about two weeks I have been having an extremely bad problem with gas. My stomach blows up, usually sometimes after lunch, and I have to relieve the gas quite frequently. This is killing me at work and even at home, as I cannot leave the house. I'm talking sometimes every two minutes and an extreme amount.....and the odor is sulphuric at best. I have not been eating anything different, eat hardly any beans/cabbage/veggies that cause this. Not a big milk product person.
Avatar m tn my problems started around febuary of 09 around early october i joined the gym and began working out 1 was weighing around 190 or 195. i switched my diet for a couple months and just ate yogurts, salads and protein bars and shakes. i did read on the bars that it could cause gastro intestinal discomfort but this was afterwards.
Avatar f tn told me I was a whimp (3 times) and to just get over it and that at my age it would take awhile to heal. The gas and dumping are still a problem. The gas pains are bad and the gas itself is enough to make me sick. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn s nearly impossible with 2000 mg of sodium limit daily. I hit the protein shake w/ chick pea n hemp protein. The whey protein made me tired. Too much bad protein can bring on HE. You'll find your balance where you can feel good. Lots of protein bars and dry cereals have high protein and I consume a lot of those!
Avatar f tn m normally a very healthy eater and will have a variety of protein and vegetables daily. I know that eating healthy is the most important thing now than before as I'm expecting but I just can't seem to keep any of it down. Every time I eat anything remotely healthy I feel nautious all day. If I eat grilled cheese sandwiches, crackers, on and j I'm fine. What do I do? Am I hurting my baby?
Avatar f tn I am a new mom, I delivered my baby 4 months ago, I want to go on a diet but I am afraid thst will affect my baby because I am breast feeding her
Avatar f tn A successful diet plan should contain high protein diet, protein is useful in the matter of weight reduction in light of the fact that it is hard to process. This implies that you will feel full more aside from the way that protein makes you feel full quicker. Make sure, high protein eating plan just conveys extensive weight reduction results when the consumption of carbs is limited.
Avatar f tn Having yogurt as well. Also added citrucel ( about a Tablespoon) to my diet as well. Still have the gas/bloat syndrome but, the gas hasn't been as bad. I do feel better otherwise. My mother had the opposite problem as I had before surgery but there was nothing that could be done for her. She practically lived on Ensure and Boost for her nutritional support. I have been told that the Ensure and Boost causes diarrhea when used alone and over a period of time. Why I added the fiber.
Avatar m tn How advanced is your liver disease? If you have symptoms of decompensation (ascites, hepatic encephalopathy, varices, etc) then your diet is especially important. Eating protein is necessary but the research I've done on behalf of my husband says to eat more plant and dairy protein and less animal protein (particularly little or no red meat). No alcohol at all! It's like pouring kersosene on your liver. Drink lots of water also and limit your sugar intake.
Avatar f tn I've been on the Ultralite diet for about five weeks now, which is a high protein low carb diet (4 serves of protein a day + 20 gs of carbs) I have issues with digestion, reflux, etc, generally, but for the last week or so have been having terrible stomach pains when I eat. I have tried diferent digestive enzymes (which seemed to give me diarrhoea) and also digestive bitters - both of these help a little but not consistently.
Avatar m tn This happens due to excess amino acids in sweat (which are breakdown products of protein), seen common with a high protein diet. Also if the diet is rich in cheese, then a bacteria of staphylococcus type acts on the sweat and causes this smell of vinegar. Hence to avoid this smell you would need to carefully look at his diet and lower the protein and cheese content in it. Another possibility is releasing hydrogen sulphide gas in stool and urine.
741515 tn?1262537139 I have been on a diet and I find that every time I eat my stomach bloats where it is very uncomfortable. I eat a lot of vegetable, fruits, and protein (tofu black beans, lentils, chick peas, red kidney beans, etc) The reason I am eating this way is because I have high blood pressure and cholesterol. I went through a program at my hospital where a dietician recommended this new way of eating. I am embarrassed when this bloating takes place at a restaurant.
Avatar f tn That's an awful lot of protein... my doctor has me on a high protein diet, 108 grams/day and most days I can't make that, even with a couple of shakes. Are shakes and water all you plan to consume? If so, that's not good or sustainable. In addition, weight lost too and not in a healthy manner will most likely be regained as soon as you start eating normally again, even if maintaining a healthy diet.
Avatar n tn Here's my take, for what it's worth. Calories aren't a very good guide to weight -- they're a factor but how you metabolize your food is more important. Also realize that most of the people in the world who have been studied for having the healthiest lives eat a lot of carbs -- they aren't on high protein diets. We all know that vegetables are the healthiest foods and should make up the largest portion of our diets, but they are all carbs.
Avatar n tn When I take metamucil it gives me gas or any type of broccli or cauliflower , bad gas , with just one dose a day, and yes I havent lost weight either.
