Avatar f tn 5 ounces of most nuts, including almonds, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease. And even though almonds are relatively high in fat and calories, studies show that eating almonds can actually help with weight loss (their protein, fiber, and monounsaturated fats provide the feeling of fullness, preventing overeating).
Avatar f tn Against what one would think as common sense a low carb diet (high fat, moderate protein), along with regular and intense exercise, can effectively reduce cholesterol. A regular glass of red wine (remember moderation) may also help. Fats should be natural sources under such a diet (ie.
1201433 tn?1328997637 I never eat a meal that is high in one macronutrient (e.g. carb or protein or fat) and low in the other two. I always try for a balanced ratio. I usually do 60% of my calories from carbs, 20% from protein, and about 20% from fat. If you are not as obsessive as me just try to eat a balanced meal that contains sane amounts of each of the macronutrients. Select nutrient dense foods that are high in fiber and avoid processed foods. It's not about specifically what you are eating.

Avatar f tn Hey Ducky, alright I do get dairy. I love eating avocadoes, cereal and milk so yeah. Guess i'll scale back abit on the fruits and up my protein and wait for like two weeks and update you again! THANK YOU!
Avatar f tn Since then I have excluded sugar from my diet almost totally and am loosing weight steadily. I am eating a healthy diet, regulating portions and continuing to have a couple of glasses of wine in the evening. So - the questions, is it possible that I have spent the last twenty years struggling with a weight problem that has such a simple explanation? Is there any reason I shouldn't eliminate sugar from my diet? Do natural sugars like honey and fruit have the same effect.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I am vegan and use a vegan protein powder to supplement 20 grams extra a day. So my total protein is about 75-80 grams (not 95g). I read that you can get too much growth hormone (which is good for building muscle) but it creates insulin like growth factor (ILGF). Too much ILGF can potentially cause cancer. So that is what I am asking. What has anyone read about this.
Avatar m tn As for rice, white or brown, it has the same effect on my blood sugar (a bad one!) and so I have cut it out of my diet. Pumpernickel works for me and does not spike my glucose levels. The best pasta to eat is a brand called "Dreamfields"; it is specially processed to reduce the amount of digestible carbs. It is delicious and has a low glycemic index. I read the other posters re:glycemic index but I disagree with them. I have managed to lower my A1C from a 9.
648439 tn?1225058862 Thanks all your people for your sensible and careful and thoughtful responses. I was going to freak out about the red wine, but now I will keep my counsel.
Avatar m tn I had Chinese food on Saturday and later that night I awoke to find my heart beat racing, could it be MSG or something else,Prior to the food I had 1.5 glasses of red wine and I went red in the face?is this normal .
Avatar f tn What happens is the body will try to retain its’ protein, and carbohydrate ‘stores’ within the body and you may not able to lose weight. The body does not know the difference if it is ‘starving’ due to self-infliction (skip meals or very low calorie intake) or environment factors (no food to eat). Hoped this helped you.
899491 tn?1243773627 A friend of mine had pre-diabetes from Abilify and he went on a healthy diet and lost 40 pounds and that passed. If someone needs general weight loss or diet advice their doctor can usually advise them. If it becomes severe and a medication change doesn't help it then its best to see a nutritionist. First find out what medication your psychiatrist will prescribe and what the risk of weight gain is and see from there.
Avatar n tn Hi, You are already doing the lifestyle measures to manage diabetes with low carb eating and exercise. If you want to step it up a notch diet-wise, you could look into ketogenic diet, which can further normalize blood sugars for some. Changing your exercise time (maybe late afternoon / evening, if you typically exercise in the morning) may be worth a try. Other possibilities: - a small late night snack (with protein and fat) may help bring down your fasting numbers; this works for some.
Avatar f tn I am on week 2 of that dumb diet right now and the literature my doctor gave me states "beer, wine or other alcohol only as allowed by your doctor." I would check with your doc. I will tell you this.....you may not want it. I drank a little on New Years and my body could not take it, it made me very sick and I was only 10 days 'hypo" at that point. Another thing, once you start this diet you may find yourself more than a little nauseated most of the time.
Avatar f tn In this light, I’d recommend having a glass of red wine no more than 2 or 3 times per week. Wine and other alcoholic beverages also cause triglyceride counts to climb. Oatmeal, oat bran, and other whole grain products can help with a small reduction, about 5 percent, in total cholesterol. I like Krill oil Just look that it has total Phospholipids 420, total MG per serving 300, at least 160 mg EPA and 90 mg DHA and 1 1/2 mg of Astaxanthin.
Avatar f tn m normally a very healthy eater and will have a variety of protein and vegetables daily. I know that eating healthy is the most important thing now than before as I'm expecting but I just can't seem to keep any of it down. Every time I eat anything remotely healthy I feel nautious all day. If I eat grilled cheese sandwiches, crackers, on and j I'm fine. What do I do? Am I hurting my baby?
Avatar f tn I allow myself chocolate before a period- and I have only porridge, weetbix and no bread. I still enjoy a glass of wine sometimes. And lots of fruit and vegies and I eat protein of course too. I allowed myself a long time period to lose the weight- so it has taken me a long time but chocolate is a part of life and we should be able to enjoy it sometimes. Well that's how I did it i hope it helps.
Avatar f tn Do not lower your calories!!! Eat whole, high protein foods. You can worry about losing weight later (chances are you are gradually without trying anyway) working out is always a good idea, but don't push too hard or the stress can effect your milk supply. Remember to drink as much water as possible and eat as much protein as you can, you are building your baby's muscles and baby needs that to grow strong and healthy. Above all, remember supply and demand!
Avatar f tn A successful diet plan should contain high protein diet, protein is useful in the matter of weight reduction in light of the fact that it is hard to process. This implies that you will feel full more aside from the way that protein makes you feel full quicker. Make sure, high protein eating plan just conveys extensive weight reduction results when the consumption of carbs is limited.
Avatar f tn s just been holding an increase of about 2 lbs and I dont know where it came from, or how to lose it. I dont eat alot of carbs, I cut back even MORE on drinking wine, and still cannot lose it, I am so frustrated. I eat 3 meals a day, this is a typical day: breakfast: bowl of kashi w/fruit OR hot multigrain cereal lunch: yogurt w/fruit and almonds mixed in, special K crackers, OR protein w/veggies; later in the day a piece of fruit .
Avatar f tn I would perhaps cut down on the wine drinking, evaluate your diet, and add in more exercise (and a good multi vitamin) and see if that has any effect. And remember, any time we want to lose weight, it's best to go slow. And it will feel REALLY slow at first. Don't get discouraged. Do you think the Zoloft is helping? You are on a really low dose. If you generally feel it is effective for you, then it is a toss up if you want to risk going off it or not.
Avatar m tn If you look on the hepatitis c trust website there are details about foods and your diet. I eat what I like but I try not to each too much beef and chips as is puts a strain on your liver, and your body is already fighting the virus. They also said if possible organic food is best or rinse your vegetables in vinegar. And never any alcohol. I am waiting to start treatment I am geno 3a also. I don't have any damage to my liver or if I do not very much.
Avatar f tn s through the roof (209.) again, I asked my dr for 3 months of diet and exercise and am planning on retesting mid-sept. It occurred to me that stress might be part of the culprit for my high numbers (my mother died a year ago and the past year has been EXTREMELY stressful due to settling her affairs, etc.--in fact, I was pretty much peaked out on stress when I took, the test in May.
