Avatar f tn 4 days ago pcp changed my beta blocker from propranolol 40mg twice daily to metprolol er 25mg daily d/t low pulse in 40s- 50s. Been on propranolol for 22yrs for PVCS. She had me just stop propranolol and start metoprolol, been experiencing shakiness, occassional pvcs, headache, nausea, pulse still 45 - low 60s at rest and with exertion 70-90. Should she have tapered propranolol or will the metoprolol block the more serious withdrawal symptoms ie: HTN, chest pain ect.
Avatar n tn I was switch from Toprol which caused my bp to drop too low and made me dizzy. My EP switched me to Atenolol which, he said, does not cross the blood-brain barrier and not cause the dizziness. I took it alone for 7 years and controlled afib with it.
Avatar m tn I have frequent PVCs. I get bigeminy and trigeminy only when my heart rate is very slow, especially right before bed and up until i fall asleep. I'm considering the minimum dose of propranolol as prescribed by my doc, but i'm very cautious and wanted to know what it is like and what any side effects and withdrawl might be like. what can i expect when taking this? i enjoy working out so i'm hoping it wouldn't affect my weight lifting and cardio that i like to do.
Avatar f tn How long does withdrawal from beta blockers usually last? I don't have any money to refill my propranolol prescription and haven't had it in 4 months. I was taking it for arrhythmias and high BP (160mg XR propranolol with 180mg XR diltiazam daily) and when I ran out 4 months ago I just kept taking the Dilt. hoping the symptoms were just withdrawals and that they would go away... Symptoms are what you would think, I'm just curious if to someone with similar conditions (i.
Avatar m tn My heart rate remains a little high and i want to take propranolol in a very small dose like 8 mg a day in divoded doses. I am scared that my bp would lower and cause probs. Can i take it???
Avatar f tn I take Toprol for high blood pressure and I checked some drug interaction websites and they advise that Paxil and Toprol can have some kind of interaction with your heart so I'm thinking I have to use a different anxiety/anti-depressant medication or else switch my high blood pressure medication. I have a call into my doctor about the BP meds but I was wondering if anyone has any good experiences or recommendations as to a good anxiety medication.
1534233 tn?1523388856 I have never heard/read of such low doses, the lowest dose of Metoprolol or Toprol I have taken is 50 mg. Maybe we are talking about a different medication. In any case, the only no-no I know of with BB is not to take it with fruit, such as Orange Juice. This is a practice I had for years, my 50 mg with OJ and then breakfast. I forget the problem, I think juice (not just OJ) reduces the effectiveness of BB the best I can recall.
Avatar f tn Metoprolol is a really crappy treatment for palpitations. My cardiologist recommended me to switch from propranolol, because metoprolol was a selective betablocker. That's right. But the problem is, metoprolol doesn't affect anxiety, because it only blocks the cardiac specific beta receptors. In other words, you will get a minor decrease in heart rate compared to no beta blocker, but the anxiety sustains and you keep having high adrenaline levels.
Avatar n tn I switched to the klonipin on friday and already I feel better than with the xanax- I feel much more even throughout the day. Also- I am taking Propranolol, 60 mg- started it 3 weeks ago, and no change yet- however, I don't know how much the ups and downs of the xanax contributed to that. How long does one need to stay on propranolol- until the symptoms subside?
Avatar n tn I have frequent PVC's (often with bigeminy) and I also have lots of reflux problems. I have been getting a lot more PVC's the past couple of weeks. I switched from Toprol XL to generic Metoprolol, and I I don't know if that has had any affect. I have also had increased reflux issues during this time. I am getting more PVC's and bigeminy than normal and am noticing it most when I lean forward, especailly while eating. Does this sound like the PVC's are coming from reflux?
443862 tn?1237999439 I actually was found to benefit from Toprol XL (also called Metoprolol Succinate ER). For me, the combo. of my Toprol and my benzo (Ativan/Lorazepam) have proven highly effective in my treatment for my panic disorder and panic attacks. I have never heard of it causing/increasing anxiety....most either get some relief, a lot of relief, or no relief from it for heart problems and panic attacks. I will look into this for you if you want, as to why it is causing your anxiety and panic.
Avatar n tn Also, I have Lupus that is in remission. I am taking Methimazole and Propranolol. My doctor wants me to take the medicine for 3 months and then do the radioactive iodine treatment. I am leaning towards the surgery because of already having Lupus. Is there anyone out there who has Lupus and has had either one of their treatments?
Avatar f tn I have had shaking hands and legs, rapid heartbeat, trouble swallowing, sweating, anxiety, depression, mood changes and shorten periods now for years and thought it was just me. The doctor started me on propranolol but it seems to not be working as well as it did in the beginning. I feel like I am going crazy.
Avatar f tn You are absolutely right about the propranolol helping with the physical symptoms and if you only have the physical symptoms, then sometimes a doctor will prescribe it alone. Reason being that if the physical symptoms go away, then the anxiety does too. (Propranolol is prescribed for people who have essential tremor. Some times these people who have the tremor become anxious because of it. Once the tremor is gone, generally by taking the beta blocker, then the anxiety goes too.
Avatar n tn This class of drugs, used to treat high blood pressure and heart disease, includes metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol), nadolol (Corgard) and propranolol (Inderal). * Birth control pills. If you use birth control pills, you may wish to switch to another method of contraception because these drugs affect your circulation and may make you more prone to attacks. If you have questions about how best to manage Raynaud's, contact your doctor.
Avatar f tn I take a baby aspirin a day, propranolol and magnesium. Have taken These meds for years. Have had CTs and MRI some years ago. Last CT was 2012 and seen neuro. Have regular eye checks and physicals. Doctors never seem concerned. Thanks for your input.
Avatar n tn I take toprol 100mg. I want to have a drink of wine with my dinner or sometimes lunch. Am I asking for trouble??
Avatar m tn I have been on Toprol for 3 years and have put on twenty pounds use to be a runner but I cannot find enogh energy to start back I have tried and tried, I have been through a couple of stress tests with very good results doctor thinks could just be in my "electrical " system he is reluctant to take me off Beta Blockers but I want my old life back, can I ween off Toprol to see what happens? Only other medical history is Chrone's and I have been in remisssion for six years.
Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
Avatar f tn This would most commonly be referred to as AFib with SVR (slow ventricular response) vs. AFib with RVR (rapid ventricular response) The latter would need to be treated promptly as rates can exceed 200+bpm and the heart cannot withstand this for too long. What medications are you currently taking for this?
Avatar f tn I am a severe-persistent asthmatic, and I take a cardio-selective beta blocker called Toprol XL. Though I was not able to tolerate another cardio-selective beta blocker called Atenolol. Other asthma patients may have similar, or opposite experiences. Still others may have no negative responses at all to beta blockers, or be entirely intolerant of them. It really depends on the patient.
612551 tn?1450022175 I have used Toprol, Metoprolol (longest, several years) and now Atenolol for the past year. I moved from Toprolol and Slow Release beta blockers to generic to lower cost. I was looking at Propranolol which I see is a "non-selective" beta blocker, and it may therefore have an unwanted sleep disturbance side-effect. Yet, it is prescribed, I read, to lower nightmare problems by lowering the higher heart rate and adrenalin associated with nightmares. ..
Avatar f tn Hi, thank you for responding to my post. I had a normal echo and wore a 24 holter. I know it did not show anything although I haven't received official results. Labs are all fine. I do take propranolol 10mg twice daily. I see a cardiologist Thursday july 5th.
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried PROPRANOLOL for prevention of Migraines? I have struggled with headaches almost every day & Migraines aprox every 7-10 days for the last 10 years. Feverfew has helped but they now seem to be getting worst so I was thinking of asking my GP if I could try Propranolol.
