Avatar f tn A friend of mine took a propranolol overdose approx. 1 month ago. 3 weeks after had a physical and his enzymes were elevated alkaline phosphatase 201 ast- 52 alt- 115. What does this mean? His MD gave him a B12 injection and a script for folate. He has not revealed to his MD that he had taken this overdose. He is going for a follow-up tomorrow and tell the doctor. He does not drink and has never taken drugs, untilt his event.
Avatar n tn I often do oral reports on the educating the public of Type 1 diabetes and I am to do my next oral report on the use of the glucagon emergency kit. My brother has had to use it a few times but we don't have any written material on it and I was hoping someone can direct me to the right place to get this information for my report.
Avatar f tn i gave my mom a glucagon injection the other night and tonight when she dropped to 36 i had none to give her. i can hardly open the gels, and drinks because of my oa in my hands. she was not able to eat anything whatis the next best thing to use?
Avatar n tn The other possible explanation that comes to mind about why his glucose levels do not rise much after glucagon is that the liver may not respond properly to the stimulus provided by the glucagon.
Avatar f tn So my suggestion is that the next time he does this, first try to get some juice or a glucose tablet into him OR keep a glucagon kit handy so you can give him glucagon to help him recover (more about glucagon in a moment), and then even before he recovers, quickly do a finger ***** on him to see what his glucose levels are right at that moment. That's really the only way you will know for sure if he is dropping low. Now, one more suggestion.
Avatar f tn d be just as worried about mixing the medications and the possibility of an accidental overdose. Good luck and GOD bless.
Avatar f tn I have had an MRI, normal pituitary. Growth hormone was low, but glucagon/propranolol test WNL. Echocardiogram WNL. I am cold all the time. I sleep at night under an electric blanket. During the day, I can put on layer upon layer and still be cold. I am 36 and in general good health; a little overweight (5'5" 160lbs). Cycles are WNL, using Nuva Ring. This condition has been going on for almost 2 years. I am also dealing with fatigue.
Avatar n tn Smokray, What a terrifying night! We are volunteers with lots of experience with diabetes, but none of us is a medical professional, so be sure to review what you learn with hubby's endocrinologist. First, talk to the endo about a presecription for Glucagon. Glucagon is safer & quicker to use than forcing sugar in an unconscious person. Glucagon is given by injection and works by causing the liver to dump its stores of glucose into the bloodstream, quicker than it would otherwise.
Avatar f tn My 19 year old son was diagnosed at age 13 with type 1 diabetes. He has overall good blood sugar control. He's an athlete -- trains for marathons and bikes at least 30 miles a day and has for the past couple of years. The problem is, (when you least expect it), we can't wake him up in the morning because of extemely low blood sugar. Now please don't tell me the reasons this may happen -- we know them all.
Avatar n tn He was showing that he knows nothing about Glucagon OR Heroin, for that matter, when he made that comment. Glucagon gives no 'high' like what illicit drug users get when they take them, doesn't change your behavior, etc. It is not addicting, either. All it does is to stimulate your liver to dump some of its reserves of emergency sugars to help you recover from a severe hypoglycemic reaction.
Avatar m tn I am 55, severe obs sleep apnea- non compliance CPAP, now growth hormones came at severe critical low level at stimulation tests// Insuline tolerance test and Glucagon stimulation test done on two different days. already taking Synthroid, for thyroid, belly weight. weakness, tired, confused, blurry, center head pain. sleep is not sound. cortisol is also not normal with glucagon stimulation test. IGF-1 is low. Can I be a candidate for growth hormone replacement therapy with immediate effect.
Avatar n tn Glucagon is not an absolute fix. You run the risk of becoming hyperglycemic if glucagon becomes your fix-all. If he is able to communicate at all, get him to eat or drink, if he is unconscious, then resort to the glucagon. Remember, his body has its own ways of handling lows, i.e. dropping adrenaline, or glucose stores from the liver. If you begin piggy-backing on that with glucagon, he ends up hyperglycemic and you enter the dreaded hi-low extremes.
Avatar f tn The pancreas produces insulin and glucagon. Insulin lowers blood sugar, glucagon raises blood sugar. An enzyme (HMGCoA) controls the production of cholesterol in your liver. The hormones glucagon and insulin control the release of this enzyme. To control cholesterol production, you want to increase glucagon and decrease insulin. This is what statin drugs do.
Avatar f tn Baseline .4 then given Glucagon roughly 30 minutes later .3 1 hour after that .2 30 minutes after that 2.1 30 minutes after that 11.
Avatar n tn If nothing else she should have glucose tablets handy (brings up the lows) or a glucagon injection kit (in case of a coma). The glucagon injection kit is for when/if she would go into a coma, you hit her with an injection and lay her on her side. The glucagon tells the liver to release all its sugar it is storing and it then releases it into the body and she will get sick and vomit. That is why you lay her on her side.
Avatar m tn Vyvanse 50mg, dextroamphetamine 10mg (as needed), propranolol (20 but I tapered it into 10), wellbutrin (100 SR twice a day) (I never took more than the recommended dosage, but a lot of the time, I change the dosage thought the month depending on the day by loweing it. For example; sometimes I take 50mg vyvanse the day after its 35, then 40, then 50 and so on. Sometimes I take dextroamph without vyvanse, sometimes I take one dex with vyvanse.
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried PROPRANOLOL for prevention of Migraines? I have struggled with headaches almost every day & Migraines aprox every 7-10 days for the last 10 years. Feverfew has helped but they now seem to be getting worst so I was thinking of asking my GP if I could try Propranolol.

Avatar f tn I have been given propranolol to take as I have had continuous palpitations since monday and my heartrate has randomly shooting up in the 100's (not related to posture!!) These will also help with my bp, it has been creeping up. I have had these in the past but was more recently on bisoprolol. Which is more common for POTS symptoms? I was in A&E last night and back at my GP's this morning. I have been refered back to the cardiologist who is going to see me in november.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Propranolol for high blood pressure and tachycardia(10mg at 8am, 2pm, and 8pm) for about 18 days now, and four days ago I woke up feeling quite dizzy. Since then it seemed to get better, but now I feel lethargic, dizzy, and generally unwell. Is it my drug? Note: I'm a 15-year-old male.
Avatar f tn 4 days ago pcp changed my beta blocker from propranolol 40mg twice daily to metprolol er 25mg daily d/t low pulse in 40s- 50s. Been on propranolol for 22yrs for PVCS. She had me just stop propranolol and start metoprolol, been experiencing shakiness, occassional pvcs, headache, nausea, pulse still 45 - low 60s at rest and with exertion 70-90. Should she have tapered propranolol or will the metoprolol block the more serious withdrawal symptoms ie: HTN, chest pain ect.
Avatar m tn yes Have severe growth hormone deficiency shown in latest and most advance stimulation tests -Glucagon stimulation tests and Insuline Tolerance Test, Does this may be reason of gum bleed, pain in center of head.
Avatar m tn Propranolol is not on the list of contraindicated drugs for Harvoni. Here is the list: http://www.drugs.com/drug-interactions/ledipasvir-sofosbuvir,harvoni-index.
Avatar f tn When did you start taking Propranolol 20 mg? Side effects of propranolol include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, insomnia, nausea, depression, memory loss, fever, lightheadedness, slow heart rate, low blood pressure, cold extremities, sore throat, and shortness of breath( ref: http://www.medicinenet.com/propranolol/page2.htm). It is possible that your symptoms are related to the medication you are taking.
Avatar f tn I take propranolol the dosage is up to your doctor it doesn't really make you tired although everyone is different but it doesn't me it's suppose to be for stress and anxiety but I don't think it helps very well you might consider ativan there isn't a medication that has propranolol in it there is a script of propranolol by itself it's not mixed with any medication
Avatar n tn To cut a long story short its affected my mental health quite badly to the point I took a massive intentional overdose of over 130 pills and died but came back and survived. Not something I'm proud of and quite embarrassed about it. I'm on diazepam, propranolol and am on mirtazapine.
Avatar n tn Sertraline and other Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) inhibit a certain enzyme which usually metabolizes Propranolol. Due to this inhibition, Propranolol action may be enhanced. But it will not be appropriate to look at this isolated piece of information and ignore other evidences. We do have a lot of trials and reviews exploring the combination. There is no conclusive evidence which allows us to deem this combination unacceptable.
