Avatar m tn Your panel did not give a conclusive answer to his question as to possible memory less due to usage of this drug. So, I am asking this same question again. Is there memory loss due to usage of this drug? I have had a prescription for atenolol for the past ten years to control blood pressure. And, I am experiencing some minor memory loss. I will not give my age because that may give you a reason for attributing memory loss to some other reason.
Avatar n tn i am just concerned for the fact that the prolonged use of propranolol might cause any sort of memory loss to me. Kindly advise me in this regard.
Avatar f tn i heard that propranolol causes memory loss. if so how wil i cope with creeping old age.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I am going to try it because my memory is so bad on Topamax. My neurologist said it might be better with Trokedi XR but it is very expensive. So if you can tell me before I buy it I would appreciate any feedback.

Avatar f tn Has anyone tried PROPRANOLOL for prevention of Migraines? I have struggled with headaches almost every day & Migraines aprox every 7-10 days for the last 10 years. Feverfew has helped but they now seem to be getting worst so I was thinking of asking my GP if I could try Propranolol.
1243620 tn?1274790697 Having wrote that, Propranolol carries a significantly higher rate of side effects compared to other beta-blockers, and for that reason it is rarely the first one selected. Additionally, it carries many drug-drug interactions, particularly when combined with psychiatric drugs. Propranolol is the prototype for the beta-blocker class. It tends to easily cross the blood-brain barrier, and may induce depression or worsen pre-existing depression.
Avatar m tn Propranolol is not on the list of contraindicated drugs for Harvoni. Here is the list: http://www.drugs.com/drug-interactions/ledipasvir-sofosbuvir,harvoni-index.
Avatar n tn m assuming a doctor made this decision to switch out Lexapro for Paxil and add on Klonopin? Are they aware of your also taking propranolol? Drug interactions are real but typically doctors try to be aware of a patients full history as long as you provide it to them. A pharmacist where you fulfil your prescriptions is also a great source of information. In general, paxil and klonopin are frequently prescribed together.
4155003 tn?1351614311 im taking propranolol and have been for 7weeks, ive been told to cut my 40mg tablets in half and have half a day to slowly come off them, but when is it fully out my system???
Avatar f tn Hello!. Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) associated with propranolol therapy are similar to other lipophilic beta blockersBeta blockers, including propranolol, have an additive effect with other drugs which decrease blood pressure, or which decrease cardiac contractility or conductivity. So the short story is that"yes"it probably is the beta blocker. But saying that see how you get on with them,it will take at least one- two weeks to really settle down.
Avatar n tn I know that I shouldn't be using cocaine because it can lead to death. I have been trying to stop but I have had trouble. I'm currently taking 40mg of propranolol twice a day. I originally was taking it for anxiety, but now i feel as though it is good for my drug problem and saves me from having a heart attack. Is this true? Because I feel as though the propranolol slows down my heart rate and makes my pulse lower than it would be if i just did coke.
Avatar f tn I have been given propranolol to take as I have had continuous palpitations since monday and my heartrate has randomly shooting up in the 100's (not related to posture!!) These will also help with my bp, it has been creeping up. I have had these in the past but was more recently on bisoprolol. Which is more common for POTS symptoms? I was in A&E last night and back at my GP's this morning. I have been refered back to the cardiologist who is going to see me in november.
Avatar f tn A friend of mine took a propranolol overdose approx. 1 month ago. 3 weeks after had a physical and his enzymes were elevated alkaline phosphatase 201 ast- 52 alt- 115. What does this mean? His MD gave him a B12 injection and a script for folate. He has not revealed to his MD that he had taken this overdose. He is going for a follow-up tomorrow and tell the doctor. He does not drink and has never taken drugs, untilt his event.

3122467 tn?1342138836 I have confronted the pshychiatrist 2 and both times he left me with it and first he gave me a drug that is supposed to help with askasthia, cogentin. Still didn't work. Talked to him again and now he gave me ativan instead of just changing zyprexa. Has anyone expreienced askasthia and continued to take the medicne and have it go away?
Avatar f tn d think, just logically, it could only be positive, but it is a stressful thing to do -- anytime you quit an addictive drug or any drug that affects brain neurotransmitters it can be a stressful thing to do and maybe that's why they want you to consult your doc. But here you have a bit of a problem that often arises -- general docs, if that's what you have, don't usually know very much about the drugs they prescribe.
Avatar m tn Hi, I'm dealing with tachycardia arrhytmia since more than 2 years now. My Cardilogist at first said it was dysautonomia and POTS and blame also my severe anxiety and was put on a beta blocker, propranolol 20 mg day. At first it was working on to stop the tachycardia but with time the effect wear off and had to increase my dose and then it was lowering too much my blood pressure so my Cardiologist switch me on another beta blocker...
Avatar m tn I used to take a slow-release Propranolol 80 mg every day, which caused severe tiredness and extreme fatigue, to the point that I was not able to think straight and sometimes could not even get out of bed. Apparently, Propranolol also inhibits the ability for you to burn fat, not to mention gastrointestinal issues. Depression is also significantly higher when taking Propranolol.
Avatar f tn 40 I am also wondering about how long will i have to take the propranolol. what has to happen for me to stop taking it. I am not a patient person and would love for all this to just go away. any info would be great.
Avatar f tn You can ask to your doctor about modafinil. It's a ''wake-promoting'', not a CNS stimulant like amphetamine, drug and used off-label as a nootropic (smart drug) due to it's positive effect on energy, memory and learning. It's impact on energy is similar to caffeine in the studies. I tried it myself and had no problem on it, better than caffeine ,in my humble opinion, and also you don't have to take it all day unlike caffeine.
Avatar f tn Hello sspj, Based on your comments, you need to find a NEW DOCTOR immediately. Find a new doctor that will listen to you. Listen to your symptoms. All your symptoms like heart pounding, legs shaking, ears ringing, pain in your left arm, nausea in the morning could be side effects of one of the drugs you are currently taking. I have a guide book to drugs and supplements . I live in Canada. The book is called " The Canadian Guide to Drug and Supplements.
Avatar m tn As with any prescription drug, the side effects vary from person to person. But yes, weight gain is quite common with Propranolol.
Avatar f tn Thank u I did try it but it made my blood pressure low so my doc started me on propranolol 10mg 2x daily have u ever heard of that I use to take 40mg of propranolol for having fast heart rate I took it for ten yrs and on july 1, 2013 I got the gastric bypass surgery and I took myself off the propranolol cuz my heart rate stayed low and I was scared to take it because it lowers ur heart rate more after all that's why they prescribed the propranolol in the first place ten yrs ago but it wasn&#
Avatar n tn I've been given propranolol 10 mg to help control alleged SVT's or tachycardia, possibly topped off with a little anxiety.. What I'm wondering is , is it Okay / reasonable / safe / recommended to take this drug simply on as "as needed" basis...For example, can I take one before I go out of the house to last me, and just not take anymore for days, maybe take one a week, or 2 a day, mixing and matching....is it okay to treat this drug like that?
Avatar f tn All you can do is ask. I've lost 15 lbs in a few months on this drug, (weight gained from all the lovely family of antipsychotics) and it has helped me greatly for my migraines and Bipolar, and I haven't had to take any other Bipolar medicines. It sounds like you are on too much stuff. No wonder you are probably gaining weight. Maybe you should just start over and do what I did and just try Topamax all by itself.
778037 tn?1377986200 Hi, Inderal is indicated for the prophylaxis of common migraine headache. The efficacy of propranolol in the treatment of a migraine attack that has started has not been established, and propranolol is not indicated for such use. The initial dose is 80 mg Inderal daily in divided doses. The usual effective dose range is 160 mg to 240 mg per day. The dosage may be increased gradually to achieve optimum migraine prophylaxis.
