Avatar f tn I have been trying to do some reading on it so i will be able to understand more. He is currently on tapazole and propranolol. Since beginning the tapazole, he has been having major mood swings. He realizes that he is having them but doesnt seem to try and control it, or maybe he cant control it. I am at a loss of what to do. I dont know what to say to him because i dont know what type of mood he will be in. He can have several ups and downs within one day.
Avatar f tn Hi, everyone! So last week I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism after being shaking, anxious and loosing a lot of weight the month before. My blood tests confirmed hyperthyroidism and I also found in the ultrasound that I have one cyst on each side of my thyroid (2 total). I am currently on propranolol (40 mg twice a day) as well as aspirin and amoxicillin (just incase I have a small infection going on). The first day I took the medication I felt amazing, like a brand new person.
Avatar n tn I am a 30 year old male and was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. I also had several episodes of panic attacks. After 4 months of treatment with carbimazole & propranolol, I am now clinically euthyroid and there's no more panic attacks & tachycardia. I have been doing brisk walking for last one month. I started slowly, but now I walk briskly on plain surface, slopes and stairs. I walk approx 2 miles everyday for 45 minutes. I have been still advised to be on Carbimazole 20 mg.
1413042 tn?1281770262 I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism 6 weeks earlier after I suffered a panic attack. That time my blood test figures were: T3: 215 (Normal Range 60 - 180) T4: 19.4 (Normal Range 4.5 - 12.6) TSH: 0.02 (Normal Range 0.35 - 5.50) The date of test was 14th July 2010. My endo put me on 30 mg Carbimazole & 20 mg (1 day 1 night) Propranolol. My new tests conducted on 17th August 2010 shows the following figures: T3: 155 (60-180) - Currently in normal range T4: 15.3 (4.5 - 12.6) TSH: <0.
Avatar n tn I have been diagonalized with Hyperthyroidism since the 24th of May. I am a 51 year old female. I have been on Methimazole for three weeks (5MG for first week, 10MG, the second week, and 15MG for another week). My blood work result is as followed: TSH <0.005, T4 2.15, Glucose 137, Bilirubin 1.9, and Thyroid Stim Immunoglobulin 3.42. I suspected that this started in late 2020 when I start losing weight. I lost a total of 25lb, and I am currently weighing at 125lb and I am 5’5.
Avatar m tn Which is better for follow up for hyperthyroidism? Is it TSH or FT4. I have Graves’ disease for over 10 years and am currently on carbimazole 5 mg and Propranalol 5 mg once a day. Recent reports show TSH < 0.01 and FT4 as 21.1 ( normal range 9-21).
Avatar f tn I have had shaking hands and legs, rapid heartbeat, trouble swallowing, sweating, anxiety, depression, mood changes and shorten periods now for years and thought it was just me. The doctor started me on propranolol but it seems to not be working as well as it did in the beginning. I feel like I am going crazy.

Avatar f tn I am a 25 year old female and have had sub clinical hyperthyroidism, with varying TSH levels for the last year and a half. I was first diagnosed when I was in an intensive work environment and I had a panic attack (the first and only in my life). The next day I went to the doctor and I had a fever, I was hypertensive (150/95), and my heart was over 100 bpm at rest. This followed a period of a few months of diarrhea 5x a day and sleeping only a few hours every night. I attributed it to stress.

Avatar n tn Sertraline and other Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) inhibit a certain enzyme which usually metabolizes Propranolol. Due to this inhibition, Propranolol action may be enhanced. But it will not be appropriate to look at this isolated piece of information and ignore other evidences. We do have a lot of trials and reviews exploring the combination. There is no conclusive evidence which allows us to deem this combination unacceptable.
Avatar f tn i was just diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and the dr.s told me that that was my magor reason why i coudnt get pregnant, now they just gave propanolol 20mg i want to know if this medication helps my thyroid hormones in its level it sopost to be and if it can help me get pregnant?
Avatar n tn 22% Am also on 15mg of propranolol to help, but it’s not controlling the flutter. Scared to switch to metoprolol (25mg). Questions: Will the flutter resolve once my pituitary gland reaches a normal level? Should I switch beta blockers from Propranolol to Metoprolol? How long will it take for my TSH levels to reach a normal level if I slowly decrease or stop medication?

2899052 tn?1436831245 I'm recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism with Graves' disease. The endocrinology doctor prescribed me Methimazole 10mg (3 tablets) in morning, that's 30mg. I also have to take Propranolol (3 times a day) every 8 hours to control my palpitation. I'm very concerned about take Methimazole because I heard it will give me liver problem and I'm very scared of taking radioactive because it can harm my eyes. Am I wrong? I need to know if they are they safe?
Avatar f tn The next morning the same thing happened, but I only needed 1 dose of Adenosine. My blood tests came back showing I have hyperthyroidism, which the doc said is causing my SVTS to become difficult and prescribed me Carbimazole 40mg once a day, and Propranolol 40mg three times a day. For the first five days I felt dreadful, tired, queasy, felt like I couldnt take a deep breath, resting heart rate at 58.
Avatar m tn These are usually intention tremors and other causes which need ruling out is alcohol withdrawal, hyperthyroidism, and etc. Treatment would include medicines like propranolol, which blocks adrenaline related neurotransmitters, and primidone which is an antiseizure drug. Consult your neurologist for the indication of therapy and the relevant treatment should be given if indicated. Take care.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism last august and have been on propranolol and methimazole since. I was taking four methimazole and now my specialist increased it to 5 and that really makes me sad. I'm gaining weight and feel so awful about myself. Yes i am feeling better which is worth alot but my hot flashes are insane. My pituitary gland is what the specialist refers to as "sleeping" and so I was wondering if you have any suggestions as to how to wake it up.
Avatar m tn After switching from Tapazole to PTU + anti-histhamine, which did nothing to help the hives and itch. The doctor is asking to stop taking propranolol which he suspects is the cause. The thing is propranolol has been keeping my heart from beating like crazy all this time and to stop it completely is a bit risky don't you think? Just wondering has anyone ever had propranolol causing hives? Thanks in advance.
Avatar n tn I have had resting tachycardia with arrythmia for at least 6 months, and at the same time I developed an intermittent heavy feeling in my chest (at the sternum, and slightly to the right). I was put on propranolol 100mg due to the tachycardia, at which time the chest feeling became constant. It worsens at night with a dry cough and I occasionally get a bit weezy. I saw my GP who said I have probably developed asthma and she prescribed an inhaler, which has not helped significantly.
Avatar f tn Normal body weight 115 (30 yr F) but gained 12 pounds in 3 days after start of propranolol. Continued to gain an additional 13 in the next 2 weeks. Began methimazole one-and-a-half weeks after propranolol. I normally eat 1900 calories per day w/moderate activity. Could I have gained 25 pounds in 2 1/2 weeks on that sort of caloric intake? Or is it the medication? DR said I had some fluid retention but made no further comment about the weight gain.
Avatar f tn controlling high blood pressure, relieving angina symptoms, and treating atrial fibrillation. Propranolol may also be used off-label to relieve alcohol withdrawal symptoms, treat hyperthyroidism, and slow down the progression of aortic dilation in children with Marfan syndrome. IF this medication is right for the person you are inquiring about cannot be answered here. This is a question that can only be answered correctly by the patient's physician.
1494095 tn?1288784877 I recently posted that I was on propranolol 2x day for the heart palpitations associated with Graves Disease, I have been on the meds for 4 days (today is day # 4), not only has this not stopped the palpitations but they've INCREASED, and the discomfort i causes is getting much harder to bear. How long should it take before the propranolol begins working?
Avatar n tn It may be primary (without known cause and usually starts during childhood or adolescence and persists all life) or secondary (as part of an underlying condition like Hyperthyroidism or similar endocrine diseases and dermatological conditions like eczema, psoriasis). I think getting a thyroid profile tested in the lab may help and also please consult a dermatologist to find out the confirmatory diagnosis as treatment depends on the same.
