Avatar f tn Hi I have graves disease and in the last 2 months I have been losing mass amounts of hair. Why all the sudden am I losing my hair?
Avatar f tn You should also ask for Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin (TSI), which is another test to determine if you have Graves Disease. The TPOab and TgAb that you have can be present with Graves Disease, but TSI is the definitive test for Graves. What are the actual values for the Free T4 and Free T3?
Avatar f tn I have had shaking hands and legs, rapid heartbeat, trouble swallowing, sweating, anxiety, depression, mood changes and shorten periods now for years and thought it was just me. The doctor started me on propranolol but it seems to not be working as well as it did in the beginning. I feel like I am going crazy.
2899052 tn?1436831245 I'm recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism with Graves' disease. The endocrinology doctor prescribed me Methimazole 10mg (3 tablets) in morning, that's 30mg. I also have to take Propranolol (3 times a day) every 8 hours to control my palpitation. I'm very concerned about take Methimazole because I heard it will give me liver problem and I'm very scared of taking radioactive because it can harm my eyes. Am I wrong? I need to know if they are they safe?
Avatar m tn Agree that it would be good to post your actual lab results, with reference ranges, so we can see what they are. You also need to get tested for thyroid antibodies. You should get tested for both Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, which is most often associated with hypothyroidism, but is commonly characterized by periods of hyperthyroidism, as well; and Graves Disease. It's possible to have them both.
Avatar f tn My daughter (6 years old) was diagnosed the beginning of June with Graves. Since then we've been on Methimazole. We started with Atenolol but 3 weeks into it was put on Propranolol 4 times a day to get her heart rate under control. We were told that in a couple of weeks if her numbers weren't down we'd be doing RAI. Next visit the numbers had moved T3 was down from 15.9 to 7.1. We were happy to finally see progress.
Avatar n tn My daughter was diagnosed with Graves on June 4th. She is 6. Luckily, I'm a teacher and have been able to stay at home with her the past couple of months to get this under control. I feel like our lives have been turned upside down. We started out with a sore throat and a diagnosis from an ENT of Thyroiditis......We ended up seeing a pediatric endocrinologist in an emergency visit because of her heart rate. We've been on methimazole since.
Avatar f tn Dr. Lupo , is there anything that will help this disorder. I have Graves Disease , took RAI in Oct of 08 then a few months later my eyes began swelling and tearing. I have been told there is nothing that can be done. My Eye Doctor says it is a unpredictable disease and will see me again in two months. Is there anything I can do at home , other than tear drops and wait? My Blood work showed TSH at 0.0 and my Free T4 at 1.85 . I know this means I am still Hyper. What should normal levels be?
Avatar f tn Hi I have graves disease. I found out Jan 29th this year. I ran out of propranolol (becuase when I break them they crumble sometimes) so I didn't take it for a day. my heart rate went up to 116. I am taking them now. I do feel good though. Really good. The only thing is that I do get tired. I am ready for bed around 10:30. but I awake at 6:00 in the morning.
1494095 tn?1288784877 I recently posted that I was on propranolol 2x day for the heart palpitations associated with Graves Disease, I have been on the meds for 4 days (today is day # 4), not only has this not stopped the palpitations but they've INCREASED, and the discomfort i causes is getting much harder to bear. How long should it take before the propranolol begins working?
Avatar f tn He likely has graves' disease. We usually retest every 4-6 weeks until stable. This can be an emotional rollercoaster for several months until levels stabilize. Consider checking out Graves' Foundation for support resources.
Avatar n tn iam apatient who suffers graves disease. Avatar m tn I don't want to tell you how often we hear of doctors telling their patients that their labs are "perfect" when they're anything but. Many doctors think that anywhere in reference range is "perfect" for everyone. They are very wrong. So, when you get your labs today, please ask for reference range with results and we can see how well they're interpreting them. Also ask if the tests are FREE T3 and FREE T4.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in 2003 and opted for total thyroidectomy once they found cold nodules in my uptake scans. Biopsy revealed that I had papillary cancer in addition to Graves. RAI treatment went well and I was declared cancer free in 2008. I now have questions after 7 years regarding the Graves. Once the cancer was found all my doc talked about was the cancer, Graves was pushed to the side and we treated and talked about only the cancer.
Avatar f tn My 6 year old daughter was diagnosed with Graves on June 4th. She is on 15 mg of methimazole a day and propranolol 4 times a day. At first the levels were not coming down. At our last visit her T3 has moved from a 15.9 to a 7.1. We were very excited to finally see the levels coming down. If her levels are coming down, why does she demonstrate such strong Graves symptoms still...tremors, heat intolorance, eating a lot, nightmares, very moody, joint pain, staring, inability to focus.....
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism last august and have been on propranolol and methimazole since. I was taking four methimazole and now my specialist increased it to 5 and that really makes me sad. I'm gaining weight and feel so awful about myself. Yes i am feeling better which is worth alot but my hot flashes are insane. My pituitary gland is what the specialist refers to as "sleeping" and so I was wondering if you have any suggestions as to how to wake it up.
Avatar n tn I have been on Methimazole 10mg 3x a day for four weeks and was on propranolol for the first two weeks. I am off the propranolol. After three wks I am now taking methimazole 2x a day. Since the on set of this illness I have had achy/painful gums which seem to get more severe with each episode. I have seen my Dr., dentist and a periodontist. Tylenol helps. No one can find a cause for this pain.
Avatar n tn Methimazole is a drug that is used to treat hyperactive (overactive) thyroid disease such as Graves Disease. It is my understanding that Hashimoto's is usually a cause of hypoactive (underactive) thyroid disease - others who have Hashi's might know better. So, if you have Hashi's, it doesn't make sense that you are being treated with an anti-thyroid drug. Could you have Graves Disease? When was the last time you had your thyroid levels checked?
1668236 tn?1308156426 Hi everybody, I'm a 23 year old female who has recently been diagnosed with Grave's disease. I am starting Methimazole and Propranolol for treatment. I am curious to know if any of you have used these, and how effective were they at treating your symptoms? (My symptoms are: fatigue, tachycardia, palpitations, ^ systolic BP, shortness of breath, muscle twitches, eye twitches, heat intolerance, and restlessness.) Also, did starting Methimazole make you gain weight?
