778037 tn?1377986200 Hi, Inderal is indicated for the prophylaxis of common migraine headache. The efficacy of propranolol in the treatment of a migraine attack that has started has not been established, and propranolol is not indicated for such use. The initial dose is 80 mg Inderal daily in divided doses. The usual effective dose range is 160 mg to 240 mg per day. The dosage may be increased gradually to achieve optimum migraine prophylaxis.

Avatar m tn Hi, How are you? Migraine headaches usually present with one-sided throbbing headaches with associated nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to sound and light. There are plenty of medications available for preventive and abortive migraines. Sometimes trial and error is done to determine the suitable medications for each patient. However, rest, ice packs, and avoidance of triggers will help prevent recurrences. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn To date I hvae been on three medications for my headaches (meloxicam, zomig and propranolol) but nothing seems to help. My headache has lasted for a month straight but it seems to be getting worse. My family doctor seems to think that I have sinus, tension and migraine headaches. The pain and sensitivity to light has become so bad that I have to sit in a dark and not move all night after a day at school. The pain is mainly behind my eye and on my nose bridge, then it spreeds to my forehead.
Avatar f tn My oncologist prescribed Epleptin and Neurexal for me. I have been on this medication for 3 months now and my headaches are not as severe or often as before. I feel great!!! :):):) Please go and see your neurologist and ask him for this medication.
Avatar n tn I have had what they say is a Migraine for 87 days straight now. It’s not like everyone else’s migraines though as I do not have light sensitivity, sound sensitivity or nausea. Doctors have tried doing the cocktail through IV x 3 and never worked, tried zomig, tramadol, Botox injections, steroids, propranolol and the list goes on. I avoid pills as much as possible as I’m aware this could cause a rebound headache. When it comes on its fast and hard! No easing into it.

1285921 tn?1271718059 I have suffered from migraine headaches for about 13 yrs now. 5 months ago I injured my back. Avatar n tn it is probably the most used antidepressant for migraines. So, propranolol is not your only option, you have 3 other possible options for your daughter that you can discuss with your daughters doctor: - Other beta-blockers instead of the propranolol - Antidepressants, amitriptyline is usually the only one prescribed. - Anticonvulsants. The most popular one being topamax. The second most popular being Valproic acid...
Avatar f tn Sounds like a migraine..."throbbing" headaches generally are. Have you been able to schedule an appointment with a Neurologist for sometime in the near future?
Avatar n tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Usually, propranolol (beta blocker) is suggested for prophylactic treatment of migraine. Acute or prompt treatment require over the counter pain killers and triptans. Avoiding the triggering factors of cluster headache might help you in order to prevent its recurrence. Hope it helps.
Avatar f tn You need to consult a neurologist since these headaches associated with visual blurring are commonly seen in migraine patients. You need to track the triggers for these episodic headaches. Trial of prophylactic drugs like propranolol or topiramate, treatment of episodes with triptans etc would be advised. Keep a tab of your headache triggers. Hope this helps. Take care.
1666131 tn?1303186843 any way my nurologist talked about getting a spinal tap after my honeymoon if the headaches are still there (getting married may 1st!)...can i just ask for copies of my mri's?
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor about migraine treatments, as these types of headaches tend to present on one side of the head. Hope you feel better soon!
Avatar f tn I have been feeling lightheaded, short of breath, arms feel heavy especially when i raise them up to shoulder level, head feels weird, no migraine pain. I have a history of migraines for about twenty years. I quit smoking 7 months ago, and started propranolol 20 mg once a day. I gained 30 pounds. My whole body is sore and Im having episodes where my upper body and sometimes legs just feel so heavy and tired I feel like Im going to pass out.
Avatar m tn Majority of the cases are related to migraine or cluster headaches. 10% is caused by organic diseases such as aneurysms, tumors, or blood vessel malformation. The cause must be accurately determined and if it persists, additional diagnostic tests like CT scan is done. It can be treated with prescription drugs including aspirin, indomethacin, or propranolol. Preventive medicines may also be taken before any exertion is done. Have this checked by your doctor for proper management.
Avatar f tn Migraines are caused by inflammation which is caused by triggers. There is no migraine preventative made yet. The preventatives are all for other conditions and happen to help some people. None of them helped me so I dont bother. Tripans are the only True migraine drug. Try Relpax and Keep imitrex. I rotate between both but do not take within 24 hours of one another. always have ibuprofen which is for inflammation.
Avatar f tn I had my first migraine when I was 12 and they became chronic and literally everyday after two car accidents. (Rear end and head on). I am soon going to b getting my nerves on my c3-6 burned to help with the headaches and neck pain. I'm only 23 yrs old. I had to quit my career (cosmetologist) I loved it and right before my migrianes randomly became daily I had an offer to become a redken color artist and do hair in big time hair shows up on stage with many famous hairstylist.
Avatar m tn His only medical history up to that point was that he developed migraine headaches a couple of years before the strokes, a history of peptic ulcer disease, and sleep apnea. He was using CPAP prior to the strokes without a problem. Since the strokes, the migraines are almost a daily occurrence (although he does take propranolol as a preventative med for them), he cannot tolerate the CPAP( we have had additional sleep studies and made changes to the CPAP without any improvement).
768044 tn?1294223436 They mention using NSAIDS as preventative treatment, but SO much work has been done since that has shown very clearly how daily NSAIDS cause chronic migraine headaches and do not prevent migraine headaches. Also, they mention Fluoxetine (an SSRI which is rarely used today for migraine prevention) as a treatment on par with current first line migraine prophylactic. So, with this in mind, take this study lightly... it is an interesting read and still has relevant and useful information in it...
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried PROPRANOLOL for prevention of Migraines? I have struggled with headaches almost every day & Migraines aprox every 7-10 days for the last 10 years. Feverfew has helped but they now seem to be getting worst so I was thinking of asking my GP if I could try Propranolol.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with a transfer migraine last August. It started on Aug 1st and hasn't left me since. It's been an agonizing 6 months. It's called transfer migraine because it moves all over my head. I've never had one of those common migraines where the light bothers me or I get nauseated or see auras, etc. My migraines have been "light" headaches that stay with me for a few days: from 3 to five days at the most.
Avatar m tn Give the medication a month or so. However, you have the same migraine for more than 7 days straight then you need to see your doctor.
526022 tn?1231148784 Migraine attacts are sometimes brought on by different lights. I also get migraine headaches when I'm on the computer for long periods or watch T.V. or senstive to different lights. Migraines normally last 72 hours however, some people get tunnel vision or wavy lines and don't experience the pain! Tell your doctor your sympton and he can give you literature explaining different types of migraines. I have suffered for years with them. They seem to run in my family.
