1008841 tn?1293598960 So you are already taking 10mg of propranolol for your portal hypertension caused by your portal vein thrombosis (PVT). Propranolol is the most commonly used drug for portal vein obstruction. Combined with endoscopic banding treatment they are the standard first line of treatment. Do you know why she don't just increase the dosage? Now she wants to add another beta blocker in addition to propranolol? Has your doc talked to you about anticoagulation therapy?
Avatar f tn I know propranolol is used for PTSD...but what should I ask for in the pharmacy and what is the dosage? Are there any serious effect if taken without proper knowledge?
Avatar n tn As Per pubmed The effects of diltiazem hydrochloride, a vasodilator often used to treat hypertension, and beta-blockers (pindolol and propranolol hydrochloride) on lipid metabolism and carbohydrate metabolism were assessed by measuring serum levels of total cholesterol, high-density-lipoproteins (HDL)-cholesterol, triglycerides, and glucose in patients taking these drugs for three months.
1124887 tn?1313754891 Hello, I believe I suffer from white coat hypertension. Earlier (until a year ago), when I didn't care about my blood pressure, I always had excellent results when my doctor measured it (115-120/60-70). After I started worrying about my heart (not so much anymore, I usually try my best to help people on the heart rhythm community) my BP readings are higher. I feel my muscles get tense and my heart starts pounding when the cuff inflates, and blood pressure is 140-155/80-95.
Avatar f tn Typical treatment as recommended by the AASLD is the use of the nonselective beta-blockers propranolol or nadolol which do have dosage guidelines for the reduction of portal blood flow. I myself used nadolol for 6 years before my liver transplant and am only experienced in its use. I haven't seen any guidelines for the use of carvedilol. I would suggest calling your doctor's office and asking how you should be titrating the dose for the most effective preventative effect.
Avatar f tn ve been taking a low (I believe) dosage of spironolactone, propranolol and furosemide to control my blood pressure and water retention. My question, led by me & my man wanting to have a baby within the next few years, is this: Will the following issues cause complications and if so, how can I get around them? 1. My menstrual cycle is very irregular (I often go several months without a period. Never been on the pill/injection etc. Never been pregnant) 2.
4155003 tn?1351614311 ive bin on propranolol for about 12weeks & weaned myself down to 10ml every other day, i took 10ml propranolol 52hours ago & not going to take another one as im ready to stop. when will it be fully out my system?
1243620 tn?1274790697 Does anyone take propranolol for anxiety and panic attacks? I've had crippling anxiety for my whole life. Antidepressants increase it to the point where I'm in such a state I almost pass out from hypervenitlating. I've heard propranolol is good for this, and is effective.
Avatar m tn i have been put on beta blockers propranolol 40 mg three times a day for benign ventricular ectopic beats and anxiety. im just not sure what times i should take them. how many hours do i need to wait to take another.
Avatar f tn thank you so much for your response.
Avatar f tn You are absolutely right about the propranolol helping with the physical symptoms and if you only have the physical symptoms, then sometimes a doctor will prescribe it alone. Reason being that if the physical symptoms go away, then the anxiety does too. (Propranolol is prescribed for people who have essential tremor. Some times these people who have the tremor become anxious because of it. Once the tremor is gone, generally by taking the beta blocker, then the anxiety goes too.
Avatar m tn Metoprolol has become a second line medication for hypertension. Nonetheless, it still can be used for treatment of high blood pressure, and it works very well for me. So I choose to,stay on it. While on 75mg/day, my last BP readimg at my physicians office was 105/60. This was a bit low for me, so I did a "reset" to completely metabolize the drug, then began my dosage again.
Avatar n tn To find a well informed answer to your query about the Sertraline-Propranolol combination, you need to look for information/evidence according to the hierarchy. A systematic review (a review of a number of studies exploring the same issue) is considered the best as far as strength of evidence is concerned. Clinicians' experience, case reports and non-journal articles are lower level sources of evidence.
Avatar f tn Hello sspj, Based on your comments, you need to find a NEW DOCTOR immediately. Find a new doctor that will listen to you. Listen to your symptoms. All your symptoms like heart pounding, legs shaking, ears ringing, pain in your left arm, nausea in the morning could be side effects of one of the drugs you are currently taking. I have a guide book to drugs and supplements . I live in Canada. The book is called " The Canadian Guide to Drug and Supplements.
Avatar n tn My electrophysiologist recently put me on a beta blocker (Metoprolol) 25 mg twice a day for hypertension and a ton of other symptoms he said must be due to Neurocardiogenic Syncope. I was diagnosed with asthma a couple years ago and it seems as if the beta blocker is causing shortness of breath and a feeling that seems similar to how I feel after exercising, a sort of chest tightness I would say. Is this common for beta blockers to do to people with asthma?
Avatar f tn I take Abilify 10mg and propranolol 60mg and that combination works for me. Since I get orthostatic hypertension (dizziness when standing up) sometimes I started taking the propranolol at night and it reduced the effect. Anyway it is not a big deal. When it happens you stop and bend over until it passes.
Avatar f tn If it is necessary to discontinue propranolol, its dosage should be reduced gradually over several weeks. Talk to your doctor about this for proper management. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn A friend of mine took a propranolol overdose approx. 1 month ago. 3 weeks after had a physical and his enzymes were elevated alkaline phosphatase 201 ast- 52 alt- 115. What does this mean? His MD gave him a B12 injection and a script for folate. He has not revealed to his MD that he had taken this overdose. He is going for a follow-up tomorrow and tell the doctor. He does not drink and has never taken drugs, untilt his event.
1475202 tn?1536270977 s been over the past 6 months that I started taking a more appropriate beta blocker (propranolol). My doctors are adjusting my dosage to 40mg twice daily since my resting heart rate is around 60 (ideal range 55-60) but my blood pressure is still a little high so maybe this will be a little more effective. I was just reading your profile and I really admire your joyous spirit and determination. I wish you the best!
Avatar f tn 4 days ago pcp changed my beta blocker from propranolol 40mg twice daily to metprolol er 25mg daily d/t low pulse in 40s- 50s. Been on propranolol for 22yrs for PVCS. She had me just stop propranolol and start metoprolol, been experiencing shakiness, occassional pvcs, headache, nausea, pulse still 45 - low 60s at rest and with exertion 70-90. Should she have tapered propranolol or will the metoprolol block the more serious withdrawal symptoms ie: HTN, chest pain ect.

Avatar f tn Yeah, Propanolol has a chance of helping you. Not sure whether suggesting to the doctor what to try is the right approach, but you could always ask if you're a good candidate for it (assuming you've been checked out properly, diagnosed properly -- which often means an MRI and a long discussion of history, habits, possible triggers).
Avatar m tn if i stop propranolol my desease get worse,is there any other medicine to take for hand tremor or should i consult a docter soon. is this becourese or propranolol. please be kind enough to answer my question .
