What is the proper propranolol dosage in order to prevent the symptoms associated with anxiety-provoking situations?
Does anyone take propranolol for anxiety and panic attacks? I've had crippling anxiety for my whole life. Antidepressants increase it to the point where I'm in such a state I almost pass out from hypervenitlating. I've heard propranolol is good for this, and is effective.
I have been on 10 mg of propranolol 2x a day for 3 months for (POTS) Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia and I have a anxiety disorder that has been totally out of control again. My doctor wants me to go on 10mg lexapro I am very afraid of medication and was wondering whats the best time to take this medication morning or night and can you take these two together. Also does Beta blocker cause heart failure that has been my biggest worry why i'm having so much anxiety everyday I need some clarity.
I take propranolol 80 mg er once daily. Objective is to maintain a resting heart rate of 50-60 bpm since I have grade three varices caused from portal hypertension a symptom of stage C decompensated cirrhosis. Since beginning this new medications (taken before bed) I wake up many morning with my heart pounding really hard then after about an half hour it returns to normal. Could this be a side effect of the medication or something else? Thanks for any information.
I've been on Propranolol for HBP, Tachycardia and Anxiety for 3 weeks. Before Taking the drug, my BPs were always around 140-150 systolic and 85-90 diastolic and my pulse hung around 100. After 3 weeks of taking Propranolol, my blood pressure remained about the same but my pulse had gone down to around 70. MY question is: Can a non-selective beta-blocker reduce pulse but not blood pressure.
My blood pressure runs on the low side, so if yours does not perhaps you can tolerate much more Propranolol than I can. I have found that oftentimes, the Propranolol will not take effect until two hours later and sometimes not at all. Most of the time though it does help. What did they give you in the hospital to stop it?
my question is, has anyone taken this propranolol (20mg once a day) for anxiety problems? and does anyone think increasing the paxil will help at all for me? ps, ive had anxiety since i was young, but it started to increase about 1 month 1/2 ago when i woke up in the morning and took a shower and the room started spinning and passed out. scariest moment of my life, they said it was vasovagal and all my blood work and so on was normal. but, yeah i knew since that day my anxiety would be worse.
i have been put on beta blockers propranolol 40 mg three times a day for benign ventricular ectopic beats and anxiety. im just not sure what times i should take them. how many hours do i need to wait to take another.
This is typically given to performers, or public speaker who have anxiety. Sometimes doctors will only prescribe the beta blocker (propranolol) or the xanax or lorazepam for just before the performance or public speaking. My guess is that you do so much of it that he feels that you would be better off with it in your system so that if you are in a sticky situation the medication will do the job and help you through.
I'm taking 10 mg of Propanolol 2 times a day for anxiety related tachycardia. I take that dose since a while now. At first I was doing ok, the Propranolol was able to reduce my heart rate in the 60's but since 1 month I experience very fast heart rate, pounding heart beat, some skip heart beat, I can feel and see my shirt moving while my heart is beating. Also my blood pressure is normal to low...110/65 to 100/55. I experience this all the time now.
all with no real success ... i had taken some propranolol at a low dosage ... i had alot of tests done. After moving abroad i saw a new doctor ... she was VERY concerned about my BP (i am just 26 and it was pretty high) and scheduled an immediate appointment with an endocrinologist ... VMA tests (x 2) both high, high catecholamines, high met and nmetanephrines ... CT scan of adrenals unrevealing ... now on atenolol daily ...
If you have hashimotos, what dosage of medication do you take? Did you start on this amount or did you work your way up? Have you tried taking more, or tried taking less? what happens then? DO you feel yucky after taking the thyroid medication>? I get about 4-5 hours of "yuckiness" after taking just .025. Whats odd is I know a couple of people that have been hashi for a long time and take a very large dosage of meds (175 or 150) and do just fine...
It had gotten to the point that I did not leave my house (at 25, I am now 28). I was diagnosed with social anxiety, generalized anxiety and panic disorder. I had been taking clonazepam daily to help me get out of the house and back to work and lorazepam as needed (usually once a day, sometimes not at all) and trazodone as needed to sleep. I moved provinces and my new doctor has taken me off of all of my meds.
Well to begin I have my degree in psychology ( I am NOT a doctor) but from what you have explained (the symptoms) sound exactly like anxiety. I also have anxiety but Im on the correct meds now so its controlled. With anxiety you really feel like your dying or something is seriously wrong, but really your mind is telling you this bc of the "fight or flight" reaction in your brain. I also experienced that too.
BTW, I take a blood pressure medicine called Propranolol. The doc told me it was ok to up my dosage on that. I also take Lyrica and diclofenac sodium. These and the pain meds are for a bad back. I was told that I need a three level fusion. Nice huh!
I am almost 6 weeks out from my radioactive iodine treatment for hot nodules and my anxiety is still very high. Should that be subsiding by now? I believe my uptake was only 25 percent and I had one very small hot nodule and one that was bigger but still early. I guess I just thought my symptoms would not be that bad and I hope these mood swings are due to the thyroid disease. I am shaking and stressed one minute and crying the next. Does anyone else have this kind of anxiety?
This will likely resolve your current symptomatology that you are experiencing with Propranolol. Dosage equivalency for Atenolol to your current Propranolol dosage is 50 milligrams once daily. In the interim (until you can visit a physician), I would suggest heading for the emergency department if you feel the situation warrants it. Such symptomatology is generally progressive with this drug. Everything you have described suggests intolerance.
Welcome to our little happy, anxious home! I'm glad you found your way here. What you are going thru is certainly awful, but the great news...is you've been given the "thumbs up" medically, which is good. While no one really wants to have anxiety....we SURELY do not want the answer to be..."Why, yes, you have something physically wrong which is causing your symptoms." ACK! Shortness of breath is one of the more common symptoms of anxiety. It's up there on the list.
Hi, I was recently prescribed apo propranolol for anxiety. I also suffer from depression which has never been addressed. I am worried about going on anti-depressants but other treatments such as diet and exercise haven't worked. My doctor wants to take it one step at a time, but I don't want to have to go on different medications.
If you are taking a medication for anxiety, do not change your dosage without consulting your physician! Many different types of medications are used in the treatment of anxiety disorders, including traditional anti-anxiety drugs such as benzodiazepines, and newer options like antidepressants and beta-blockers. These medications can be very effective, but they shouldn’t be thought of as a cure.
Hi, I have been diagnosed with anxiety and I am currently taking 10mg Lexapro which doe not seem to be helping. I have really bad physical symptoms and I think there is something else medically wrong with me, even though the various health test that I've had all came up negative. My question is, does anyone of you suffering from anxiety feel constantly tired all of the time, feel like you are out of your body, like on drugs or living in a constant dream? I guess it's called depersonalization?
Feel like a pin cushion from all the blood work - again all within normal ranges. My psychologist insists anxiety is the culprit. Though I have been under a fair amount of stress with work and family, can these pains linger around for this long just from anxiety? They come and go throughout the day and are very disruptive to my thinking of 'what's going on with me? - which I'm guessing only breeds more anxiety. The only other med I'm on is Lipitor for cholestorol.
requesting a new RX today but I was wondering what if any AntiDepressents and/or anxiety medication you may be taking. I am also interested in any levels and TX you are doing. Thank you.
propranolol. He adviced me to take a low dosage before exercising or when I felt anxious. It works in two ways, it 1) slows the heart rate, but also 2) reduces likelyness of panic attacks. I haven't had a panic attack since. Another advantage is that it's rapid and short acting, I took half a pill (10 mg) before exercising and it really helped me. I can't give you any medical advice, but it's maybe a good idea to ask your doctor.
This isn't really a question, it's more or less a walkthrough of what I am going through with anxiety problems and alcoholism in hopes that it might help someone out there. Had I read online about how common anxiety attacks after a night of drinking are, maybe I could have started my road to recovery sooner, and maybe some of you can.
I think just about everyone in this forum knows that), or it could be another part of the withdrawal from the nicotine (I had to increase the dosage of my anxiety medication when I quit smoking, so I know how that goes too). I hope this is all making sense.
If it is necessary to discontinue propranolol, its dosage should be reduced gradually over several weeks. Talk to your doctor about this for proper management. Take care and regards.
All I am asking is shouldn't I treat my anxiety with some low dosage anti-anxiety medication instead of going for antidepressants? As I know that if I never get the symptoms of panic attack, I will come out of depression too.
I am looking for alternatives to treat my anxiety and depression that will not exacerbate my tremor. It's hard to be an RN if your hands are shaking; putting a needle in a vial to draw up meds is quite a challenge. I have eliminated caffeine from my diet and have increased my sleep schedule. My BP is naturally low (when off caffeine) SBP 105-110 mgHg, so adding propranolol is not an option. Clonazepam helps a little, it think, it's hard to tell.
Hi I was prescribed propranolol for anxiety and I took 20mg at night but couldnt sleep at all then took another 10mg about 5 hrs later which seemed to make me feel worse I had chest tightness and difficulty breathing can this dosage affect my heart in a negative way, the chest tightness eased now but im still worried and I dont plan on taking the med again, please advive
