Avatar f tn I have a history of migraines for about twenty years. I quit smoking 7 months ago, and started propranolol 20 mg once a day. I gained 30 pounds. My whole body is sore and Im having episodes where my upper body and sometimes legs just feel so heavy and tired I feel like Im going to pass out. Had a Head CT, Head and Neck CTA, CBC, EKG all were normal. Is it related to migraine? ER doctor said it is anxiety. Oh I stopped celexa five months ago because I was extremely fatigued.
Avatar n tn These include ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others) or aspirin to help relieve mild migraines and combinations of acetaminophen, aspirin and caffeine specifically meant for moderate migraine attacks (Excedrin Migraine). The drugs of choice however are triptans such as Sumatriptan, rizatriptan, naratriptan, zolmitriptan, almotriptan, frovatriptan and eletriptan. You may need to try which of these medications works best for you, in consultation with your doctor.
Avatar f tn I had to stop my migraine prevention meds to. What I have been using during my pregnancy is 500mg of magnesium a day and fioricet as needed both recommend and ok'd by my OB and neurologist. They don't help nearly as much as my other meds did but its getting me through them. Good luck.

1125820 tn?1265284446 t personally use it, but lots of people do use it for migraine prevention and find relief with it. Although it can be dangerous taking herbal treatments without consulting a doctor first, so please consult a doctor prior to taking Feverfew or any other herbal treatments, just as you would with prescriptions. As for what you have already tried: The Tylenol 3s and the Morphine aren't things I usually recommend to people, so I am not surprised that they didn't work.

Avatar n tn I have recently been prescribed Verapamil for migraine prevention but I'm also taking Norvasc. Should these medications be taken together? The Norvasc was prescribed a number of years ago by a different doctor for Migraine prevention. It hasn't helped my migraines but I've continued to take it. Since they are both blood pressure meds, I'm doubtful I should take both.
778037 tn?1377986200 Hi, Inderal is indicated for the prophylaxis of common migraine headache. The efficacy of propranolol in the treatment of a migraine attack that has started has not been established, and propranolol is not indicated for such use. The initial dose is 80 mg Inderal daily in divided doses. The usual effective dose range is 160 mg to 240 mg per day. The dosage may be increased gradually to achieve optimum migraine prophylaxis.
Avatar m tn He was diagnosed with abdominal migraine and put on propranolol (taken daily to prevent migraine), and it worked very well. We weaned him off the propranolol after a year or so, and a year after that the nausea came back. Now he's been nauseous for 8 weeks straight and has missed a month of school. Propranolol is not supposed to stop a migraine in progress, just prevent them; we tried putting him back on during this episode but his pulse dropped too low.
Avatar f tn I was on it before for migraine prevention. Doc had me stop it a month before coming off my birth control.
Avatar m tn i know migraine in migraine case has one side of headache but i have never headache
Avatar n tn Usually, propranolol (beta blocker) is suggested for prophylactic treatment of migraine. Acute or prompt treatment require over the counter pain killers and triptans. Avoiding the triggering factors of cluster headache might help you in order to prevent its recurrence. Hope it helps.

Avatar f tn can propranolol be used for migraine prophylaxis in a patient with heart rate of 60 and family history of diabetes
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried PROPRANOLOL for prevention of Migraines? I have struggled with headaches almost every day & Migraines aprox every 7-10 days for the last 10 years. Feverfew has helped but they now seem to be getting worst so I was thinking of asking my GP if I could try Propranolol.
Avatar m tn The presence of headaches associated with vomiting may suggest underlying conditions that may require immediate intervention. An ophthalmologic and ENT examination are also important to rule out peripheral nerve disorders and localized eye problems. Bring your self to the nearest medical center. Having vomited 10 to 15 times require that you be rehydrated. You may need correction of your electrolytes .This is important as electrolyte losses may cause further problems.
Avatar n tn I take propranolol for Tremors from taking Gabapentin. I wanted to know if propranolol has withdrawal symptoms because I am weening off all meds to see if my new symptoms were caused by all the meds. I want to add meds as needed for Fibromyalgia.
Avatar n tn Apparently that is a common sypmtpon of migraine. Propanolol can help that too. Also, tell him not to stand up very fast, and when bending down, lift head up slowly. If MRI is negative, then consider adding a maintenance med like Paxil or Cynbalta to help balance seratonin in brain. Ibuprophin can help too as it reduces inflamation which is what a migraine is. Migraine is inflamation of blood vessels in brain. Also, look out for triggers. Such as aspartime, chocolate. I hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Today out of the blue I became extremely dizzy, faint, with extreme anxiety for about 20 minutes which was immediately followed by pressure on the left side of my head and extreme fatigue and nausea. Was this a migraine attack? I trusted my neuro but after the bad experience with the Topomax I became discouraged. As well, if anyone has any advice on a good preventative med with few side effects or some abortives I would greatly appreciate it.

988694 tn?1332359479 ) and all it got me was fat. I have been taking a beta blocker, propranolol, and that works very well as a preventative for years. The only thing it probably effects is masking palpitations if I were to go hyper, otherwise it has not affected my thyroid med that I know of. I have also had migraine "attacks" but now realizing that low vitamin levels as well as a low progesterone level (I am 47) have probably helped those migraine attacks along.
Avatar m tn He now uses Midrin and Indomethicin for migraine abatement which is sometimes helpful and at times has to use Stadol nasal spray. He takes an aspirin a day as he was having recurrent TIAs and the risk on Coumadin was too great. He tried Plavix(was allergic) and Aggrenox which increased the headache frequency. We are just at a loss with his current neurologist and feel he is at a loss of what to do.
Avatar f tn OK, PLEASE i am asking you to NOT STOP taking the Paxil cold turkey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will go into withdrawal and may suffer greatly. If you think that your having a hard time now then just wait until your brain starts to crave the Paxil and then you'll know what is is like to suffer. Many people on this web-site have done the same thing that you are posing to do and have screamed out to anyone to hear and help them.
Avatar m tn t want to know- but they have managed to make a cocktail of drugs for prevention and treatment. Not 100% but much, much better. Insist and be very assertive when you go to the doc. Say after me " I would like to see a neurologist please who specialises in headaches" ! Good Luck.
Avatar n tn The day after the surgery my EP Dr put me on Propranolol daily and Sumatriptan to take when I get the headaches, but it doesn't seem to be working and the migraines keep coming. I've gotten 2 migraines today already. Has anyone experienced this after a heart ablation? did it go away? I cannot imagine having headaches like this for the rest of my life. They are debilitating. I can't go to work, I can't sleep, I can't eat, I can't do anything! HELP!!
1868815 tn?1412541757 But it is also important that you take them correctly and give them a true chance and combine this with a migraine friendly lifestyle. You need a good headache specialist to guide you through this. Maybe you need to gradualy stop all the meds and then start fresh again. It might also be worth to reconsider the diagnosis, it always is when several meds fail. Botox injections can sure be worth a try.
2024985 tn?1328846203 Use your preventive medication each day as prescribed, I was not doing this myself and I started doing this and have been amazed of how much better I feel.
