Common Questions and Answers about Propecia side effects hair loss

propecia

Avatar n tn About three months ago I started taking propecia because I thought my hair was falling out too young. I experienced several side effects from the drug including total loss of sex drive, difficulty maintaining erections, loss of spontaneous erections/morning erections. I stopped taking propecia within 3 weeks due to an inability to deal with these side effects. Things seemed to be slowly getting slightly better as the weeks and months progressed however now some new issues have been arising.
Avatar n tn My grandmother on my moms side is the only relative who has experienced hair loss. Finally, it appears to thinning everywhere (though much worse in the temple area) and no chunks are missing. From this, I had pretty much concluded I had telogen effluvium. Now, I have already seen a dermatologist for this.
Avatar m tn I do not want to stop taking Propecia because it has done wonders for my hair. Propecia has halted my hair loss and has re-grown considerable amount of hair. Thus, I need to address my erection problems while still being able to take Propecia. I read that L-Arginine could help with my erectile problems and that it works similar to Viagra. Thus, I began taking L-Arginine, 1500 mg. twice a day. It has helped but it has not solved the problem.
Avatar n tn I know going bald is hereditary, but the fact is that it starts when -the body is producing to much testosterone that is being converted into DHT -Or some other type of imbalance is causing excess DHT DHT causes hair loss I am in the exact same boat as you guys except no propecia for my hair loss I also have gynecomastia and I am awaiting my hormone test to see if there is an underlying cause.

5708852 tn?1372804931 Hi everyone! Ok so sorry if I go in to depth in my question and sound a little rude! So i'm only 19 but I'm struggling here! Avatar m tn hi! i used to take wellbutrin and it made my hair fall out as well. pdocs don't know all of the side effects. i stopped taking the wellbutrin (taper off, never stop taking any med cold turkey) and i've been taking centrum silver (you don't have to be 50+..LOL!) and that has helped my hair, but it has never been the same. i hate meds. i refuse to take them....but thats just me. best of luck!
Avatar m tn Your hair is going to fall out in excess on treatment even with the use of Propecia or Rogaine; that is just one of the unfortunate side effects. Hair restoration meds are not cheap and personally I wouldn't waste my money on it until several months after you have completed treatment.
Avatar n tn I was told that this was a known side effect, but that the hair would grow back. It has been over four years!!! My hair is uniformly thinned out across the entire scalp. I have seen an Endocrinologist who says that there are no hormonal issues - my Testosterone levels are in the low end of the acceptability range. The hair loss is a BIG HUGE issue for me. What do I do to generate regrowth in the follicles obviously damaged by Roaccutane.
1654177 tn?1319838494 The kind of diffuse hair shedding you are talking about is medication-related hair loss. Based on what I have seen and read that type of hair loss begins to abate 2 to 6 months after cessation of the med that caused it. Supplementing Biotin is frequently mentioned however I have yet to encounter anyone who can attest to the fact that it did indeed slow hair loss or promote hair growth. This is whether it is taken orally or applied topically in various hair care products.
Avatar n tn What role, if any, could this medication be playing in this? If it is negatively impacting muscle growth, is there a way to counteract the effects that it is having on my muscle without sacrificing my hair?

Avatar n tn Also get your husband’s sperm count done. Propecia is known to cause impotence, abnormal ejaculation, loss of sex drive and pain in testicles. However its effect on sperm is not reported. “Women who are or may potentially be pregnant must not use PROPECIA and should not handle crushed or broken PROPECIA tablets because the active ingredient may cause abnormalities of a male baby's sex organs.
Avatar m tn I went to a dermatologist and she put me on propecia for the hair loss. I also took a blood test and said my iron was low. But other then that I my blood was normal. Is it possible they ran certain tests on my blood and not others which maybe why I am misdiagnosed. I have a follow up in late july. I didnt have this burning sensation before i went to see my doc. And my burning scalp is not a symptom of propecia. Any ideas to what this could be? A disease?
Avatar m tn Is that a side effect of hair loss medication? I am asking because I have posted on this forum about what I assume is ED issues with my boyfriend. He was taking Ketocozonole(sp) for his hair loss.

Avatar n tn Hair loss is sometimes a side effect of taking beta blockers. Not sure if there's a way to stop that other than changing medications. You have normal sinus rhythm but it's fast? How fast? If it's consistently over 100, you should talk to your cardio about that. It's not normal or healthy. Your meds may need to be adjusted.
Avatar m tn Some people experience few side effects and/or minimal side effects and others have either more side effects or more problematic side effects. In addition, many of the side effects are not constant. They tend to wax and wane, worse some days and minimal other days. Some side effects are more common than others and appear in varying degrees in many people taking the drugs. Hair loss is not uncommon according to the statistics. Hair loss among people taking Pegasys 180 mcg. for 48 weeks is 22%.

560402 tn?1235508894 I also kept my hair with Gemzar. But I do have to admit that it was a hard chemo for me. I was also on the 3 week on and 1 week off schedule. Keep in mind, as Gail said, chemo affects all of us differently. But after my treatments, I had about 2 hours before it started to hit me. I never experienced nausea or vomiting, but I felt really bad for about 3 days. The upside was that after I was on it for awhile, the side effects gradually started to ease up.
