prometrium vs progesterone

most of us have been on it.. usually suppositories... I used it with this pg and with the last one...

I took progesterone (same as prometrium) in oil shots (IVF) - not fun but definitely worth it - until 12 weeks of pregnancy. Miranda, are you pregnant? did I miss the big announcement?

I was using it with my last pregnacy (from ovulation and got a bfp) but when I went to have my blood levels checked my progesterone was only 5.8. They put me on prometrium and 2 days later it was over 40. So the creme, ummm, didn't seem to do anything for me. I bought some off Amazon and got some at Whole Foods.

I am taking prometrium to help support the pregnancy (if i am). I usually take provera to start my cycle because i am irregular. I believe you can take prometrium to do the same. I am wondering if i am not pregnant if my af will start while i am on the prometrium. I am not sure if the test they are doing is quantitative. Maybe they are just interpreting the numbers and telling if i am pregnant or not.

Maybe I will ask him to add prometrium in addition to crinone. Originally he had prescribed only prometrium but it was a vaginal suppository. I did not know you can get those in pills, maybe I should ask for that ita17 - Thank you for sharing, I am glad it is working. As I had a failed IVF, I am trying to analyze every aspect so that I have a success next time.

t have any research done on the difference in dose between progesterone supplements for what you are using vs bc pills and the difference. AND I'm not trying to minimize the risk factors that are present in bc pills. I just thought I'd make the comparison as if you have had bad experiences with the progesterone in birth control pills it may also be something to consider.

Unfortunately, the major clinical studies conducted compare estrogen-only to estrogen + progesterone. There haven't been any studies comparing daily vs every other day dosing of prometrium.

Prometrium is progesterone, and therefore if you are taking prometrium, a progesterone test will read positive. Were you taking the prometrium in your vagina or by mouth? Progesterone levels of 34 (if you are in the US) are a little high to come just from prometrium alone so I would have thought you had ovulated also. In Canada and Europle, the units used are different and a progesterone of 34 could be due entirely to the prometrium if you are writing from those countries.

Im on Prometrium also...and no it doesnt delay your cycle or it hasnt mine....I like you take it after I ovulate....and conitnue to take it untel i get a positive or I start AF....I just started the Prometrium again last night so Im in the 2ww to see if we are pregnant this cycle....Im also on Clomid 100mg....the only side effect I have is from time to time I have a little Nauseau but not that bad....good luck to you and I hope this helps you out.

I get a progesterone shot once a week and take prometrium every day twice a day. It's so worth it! Hang in there.

Prometrium is to help raise the progesterone to aid in implantation of the baby. It is taken the day after Ovulation and till the period occurs. Now as it raises the progesterone it can delay your period if you are not pregnant as during the luteal phase (after ovulation) your progesterone will decrease and estrogen levels will rise talling your body to shed the uterine lining causeing yoru period to occur. When you take suppliments the progesterone stays up and may not fall till stopped.

I did some on-line research, too - here is a summary for those who are interested. It sounds like most doctor recommend stopping at the end of the 1st trimester and some as early as week 8.

This time the doctor gave me Progesterone (Prometrium) capsule, 200mg and twice a day. On day 28, my hcg is 2100 and progesterone is 7.81, then on day 33, my hcg is 18,000 and progesterone 17.54. I am still taking Prometrium 200mg twice a day (virginal). As I saw some of you taking Progesterone 100mg, just wondering if the doctors reduced the dosage after your progesterone level increased? What is the dosage do you usually take? Once or twice? Please share your experience.

ve been taking Crinone 8% suppositories once a day for the past 2 weeks but my OB changed my Rx (due to insurance issues) to Progesterone 100mg (generic for prometrium) 3 times a day which I take orally. I just started the progesterone yesterday and my question is... Is it better to take the Progesterone pills vaginally instead? It's a small round peach pill with a gel coating. I'm so afraid of my levels dropping due to the change of meds and change in the way it's administered.

I would have asked my doc these questions but I thought that it was the same a plain progesterone which I have taken before. Also for the Poll If you took prometrium and it helped you conceive did you get a boy or a girl!! We are using shettles method to sway for a boy. We have 2 girls.

t come as long as I was taking the progesterone supplements. Only it did come. So I figured the progesterone clearly wasn't working and stopped taking it. But now I don't know whether my body's got things under control without the progesterone (which would be super, duper, crazy awesome)? Or if I just seriously messed things up...?

Nov 08 I was pregnant and my progesterone was very low, I started to bleed so that is why we checked the progesterone levels. They put me on prometrium and my P4 levels went up into the 30's however the outcome of that pregnancy wasn't very good. There have been lots of women with low progesterone levels put on supplements and have carried to term though. Prometrium won't keep you from m/c but will delay it sometimes.

Hi There, My doc put me on progesterone two weeks ago when I first found out I was pregnant. I found it reassuring that lots of women use progesterone through the first trimester to help support the pregnancy. If your miscarriages are in fact from low progesterone then the prometrium will help. My levels were 13.8 for progesterone. Not sure how much the prometrium helps. I'm actually on something called Crinone which is taken vaginally.

has any of you ladies used rometrium after having difficulty getting pergnant, and saw positive result? my doctor just prescribed me with prometrium, becaus ei have been trying since march 08, but have not gotten pregnant. Emotionally, i need to believe that this may actually work. I want to know if any one has a success story with Prometrium.

I always get tender breasts after ovulation when progesterone goes up. Prometrium is a synthetic progesterone, so that can cause breast tenderness in and of itself...and then, if you ovulated, the follicles you had will produce progesterone, as well...so the levels are most probably much higher for you this cycle than normal. It should subside at the end of the cycle.

I was in prometrium 200mg once a day with my 3rd pregnancy..and still i m/c at 17&1/2 weeks.. and i stopped taking the prometrium at my 15&1/2weeks( i should only take them for 12 weeks, but my dr told me to continued the left pills..) still don't know the reason why,, if it's bec. i stopped taking the progesterone supplement or there is some thing else..

Is anyone here on Prometrium now or used it in the past? I have had 6 miscarriages in the past, most recent one was twins Christmas Day. I just got a BFP Saturday night and went and had my 1st Beta drawn this morning as well as my progesterone level. Well we are expecting horrible weather, ice and up to 20 inches of snow, so my OB's office decided to close at 2:30 this afternoon and for will be closed tomorrow, possible the rest of the week.

Hi Nolta, I had a progesterone level of 13.8 at the beginning of this pregnancy. They wanted it to be above 20. I was put on crinone natural progesterone for a few weeks and then I was switched to prometrium. I'm finishing up my 13th week and will no longer have to take it. It supplements the progesterone levels until the placenta takes over. It's pretty common and luckily the supplemental progesterone can help. Also, I had some side cramping like you are describing early on too.

They only took my progesterone levels once after I started the Prometrium to make sure it was theraputic and it was in the 20's don't remember exactly. But they haven't taken it again. But I've had 4 ultrasounds where we have seen baby's heartbeat and everything is well.
