Prometrium vs crinone

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium vs crinone

prometrium

Avatar f tn Maybe I will ask him to add prometrium in addition to crinone. Originally he had prescribed only prometrium but it was a vaginal suppository. I did not know you can get those in pills, maybe I should ask for that ita17 - Thank you for sharing, I am glad it is working. As I had a failed IVF, I am trying to analyze every aspect so that I have a success next time.
Avatar f tn My RE put me on Crinone gel 8% after my iui--it says on the package that it's 90 mg of progesterone. Does this seem low? Before (with a different dr) I was on 400 prometrium and then switched to 800 mg compounded progesterone in a vaginal suppository. Are the dosages somehow different or am I getting 1/8 what I was before?
Avatar f tn I was also on crinone (once a day), plus oral prometrium, but my RE never checked my progesterone levels after transfer. From what I've understood, blood tests are not always accurate when on vaginal supplements, since the vaginal supplements basically delivers all the hormones down there, right where it's needed, without going through your entire blood stream first (like the injections do). You could always ask for prometrium as an addition, though...just as an added precaution.
652899 tn?1284047173 I am on Prometrium 100 mg suppositories used once a day at betime. I start this 2 days after IUI. Good Luck!
961574 tn?1520648103 Oh yeah, that's right. I forgot about that. Are you worried about it not being enough? You could always ask for oral prometrium in addition. That's what I was on. Crinone once a day and a low dose prometrium twice a day (if I remember correctly).
Avatar f tn I am TTC and taking crinone gel on day 17 until I get my period. I have noticed that I start having some mild cramps around 5 or 6 days after starting the crinone suppositories. Has anyone else noticed this? It seems to be working b/c I am not having mid-cycle spotting anymore and my cycles have gone from 24 days to around 32 days.
Avatar f tn I stopped around 10-11 weeks in both my pregnancies and had no issues getting off the meds. I was on crinone (vaginal) and prometrium during my first pregnancy (IVF), and on prometrium only the second time around (natural pregnancy). Best wishes for the remainder of your pregnancy!
Avatar f tn I had a thin lining and the doctor perscribed Prometrium. Which I understand is a form of progesterone. After seeing a fertility doctor I learn that there are many side effects to the fetus. I just recently went through a clomid cycle with success. I am 4 weeks 3 days pregnant. Today the doctor called and wants me to begin taking Crinone because again my lining is thin. I am very nervous that it is going to effect my baby in a negative way.
Avatar n tn My blood work shows positive result but the doctor said that my progesterone level is very low (6.5). I was advised to take prometrium. has anyone had a similar experience?? thanks!
Avatar f tn Well, prometrium is different than the suppositories (at least, I took Prometrium orally). I don't know if taking progesterone orally vs. suppository would make a difference in regards to yoru cycles... I would have to think not, but who knows. Until you are able to give your doctor a call, I would call the pharmacy and ask them the side effects question, as well as your question about delaying your cycle.
8987249 tn?1404774097 Hi ladies - I'm about to stop using the Crinone 8% progesterone cream (when I hit 12 weeks this weekend), and I'm curious if anyone had bad results from stopping (or if things were fine). I'm nervous to stop using it!
588676 tn?1317820597 Has anyone ever used Crinone 8% vaginal gel suppository? I have used Prometrium (orally) in the past; however, my new OB would like me to try Crinone 8% being that it is absorbed directly where it is needed. I am curious to know if any of you have had experience with it. Are there any side effects? Do you experience a discharge with it? Is it messy?
1262373 tn?1281543782 My doc just put me on 200 mg of prometrium on days 14-28. Does anyone know anything about this medication? How is it different than progesterone? If I concieve while taking it then what? I would have asked my doc these questions but I thought that it was the same a plain progesterone which I have taken before. Also for the Poll If you took prometrium and it helped you conceive did you get a boy or a girl!! We are using shettles method to sway for a boy. We have 2 girls.
Avatar f tn Hi ladies. I'm 35 years old and 7 weeks pregnant. I've had 6 miscarriages in the past (last one was 2 years ago) due to low progesterone levels. I've been taking Crinone 8% suppositories once a day for the past 2 weeks but my OB changed my Rx (due to insurance issues) to Progesterone 100mg (generic for prometrium) 3 times a day which I take orally. I just started the progesterone yesterday and my question is... Is it better to take the Progesterone pills vaginally instead?

377493 tn?1356502149 I was going to suggest the same as Christine...right before work, right after work and at bedtime. As for how far in, i would try to get it as close to the cervix as possible. I used prometrium vaginally once after an IUI (and crinone in my IVF cycle), and that's what I did. And yes, I would wear a pantyliner, because it can cause some creamy, yellowy discharge. Good luck!

318181 tn?1336443496 I did IVF, so I was on two prometrium pills a day and one crinone at night (plus an estrogen patch). I was instructed to stop all supplements last friday at 11 weeks, 2 days. Since I was a bit nervous about it, I decided Friday night to stop the crinone and just take one prometrium pill (as opposed to two) for a few days before stopping alltogether. So I've been doing that for a couple of days now. BUT, I noticed yesterday and today that I'm now having some minor cramping.
1441678 tn?1414176672 I used crinone once a day, plus oral prometrium, after my IVF, and it ended up being a successful pregnancy. I haven't used PIO injections or endomitrin before, though. My RE told me to gently remove the buildup from the crinone every 2-3 days, and that really helped with the discharge. Good luck! I hope third time's the charm for you!
1110747 tn?1295844043 I took prometrium until 12w and everything is going good. Good luck!
1053407 tn?1352030371 Now that you mention it I did on my last IUI cycle but I have no idea why. What meds are you on? I was on Metformin, Prometrium, Prenatals and Baby Aspirin.
Avatar n tn so a day and a half after the shot. Are you taking Crinone cream as your progesterone supp? I have taken that many times. It is gross cause it is messy and it gives some pregnancy symptoms so it can be deceiving. I can't think of anything that you can not do while on it, but I'll let you know if I think of anything. Good luck! Are you having an IUI done?
Avatar f tn He said my tubes are not blocked because he checked them after the surgery 2 years ago. The last 2 cycles I was also taking crinone 2 days after ovulation. I went back to him last week and he said the reason the clomid did not work is because my progesterone is low always between 7 and 14 although my estrogen is high, once at 3000. He recommends going back on clomid (5 pills a day) and taking prometrium 200 mg 2 days after ovulation.
Avatar f tn Has anyones RE ever discussed possible side effects to the fetus when using progesteron supplementation? I just read the insert for the gel Crinone and it mentions possible cleft palate and abdominal wall malfunctions. My RE didn't seem to know anything about this. What it didn't give in the insert was whether the difference between those taking Crinone and those not taking it was significant.
Avatar n tn I take prometrium, which is a progesterone supplement (200mg, vaginally every night).
294043 tn?1354207946 Right now I am going through ivf#2 and my ob wants me to use crinone gel, 8% inserts. The package says 1 a day but I hear some had to use these 3 times a day. Should I worry??? What was your dosage? Also, I heard with these progesterone applicators there is discharge while I see nada. Am I getting enough progesterone??? This new technology is messing with my head!!!!
