prometrium

Avatar n tn I took prometrium until I was 12 weeks pregnant and thank God, it saved my pregnancy. Right now I am 18 weeks and 2 days pregnant and I am telling you Prometrium works. Check out my posts. God Bless you.
Avatar f tn Hello Doctor., I'm 28. I had 2 miscarriages, both lasted only 4w3d. I did all tests to find what was wrong. All results were normal, except a cyst in right fallopian tubes from HSG test. But my Dr. did not test progesterone levels so far. My period just started, my dr. asked me to take prometrium 200mg vaginally only after I have a positive pregnancy test.
175665 tn?1306459024 ll be able to get far enough along using the Prometrium to see what is going to happen and possibly prevent a miscarriage in the event your little bean is healthy as can be! Prometrium makes me feel really dizzy. You're not supposed to drive after taking it. It can increase vaginal discharge (which it has for me), cause sore breasts, nausea, vomiting, etc. I take one 200mg pill at night. Some doctors prescribe that you take 2 a day (which is what I did my last pregnancy).
611020 tn?1290571629 re taking Prometrium, and you are miscarrying, can the prometrium prevent any sign of the m/c ? i.e. can it prevent spotting/bleeding/cramping , or will the m/c go through anyway.?
Avatar f tn Because I had a miscarriage last year. They put me on prometrium. As soon as I found out I was pregnant. I went to get my HCG and progesteron checked. it was HCG 130 and progesterone 45.8 which is good. But they put me on it just in case. I started seeing a new doctor now and she she is sending me to a specialist for the medicine to see if I really need to keep taking the medication, because it could be harmful to a developing fetus. My appointment is Friday.
1262373 tn?1281543782 I conceived on prometrium 400 mg. Unfortunately it ended in mc, but I did get pregnant...the fetus was a male (I had a d&c and they tested to see what was wrong--everything was "normal")---but progesterone has nothing to do w/ conceiving a particular sex. Like pol79princess said, it's just to help prevent potential miscarriage... Good luck!
Avatar f tn Prometrium, a progesterone supplement, is sometimes prescribed during the first trimester of pregnancy in women who have had a history of miscarriages caused by low progesterone levels. The addition of prometruim during pregnancy helps ensure that the women will carry the fetus to full-term. It works by helping ensure that a placenta is fully formed thus providing the necessary lifeline for the developing fetus.
Avatar f tn Many people take that med in pregnancy and if your dr tells you to take it i would absolutely take it. Most women who have low progesterone in pregnancy and do not take this med go on to miscarry or have a still birth. I have never known anyone to have problems with their baby due to taking this med. If you have low progesterone you will be at high risk for miscarriage or still birth without this medication even in the second trimester.
Avatar f tn Progesterone can help however it will not prevent a miscarriage if it is going to happen. It can only help if the pregnancy is failing due to your body not producing enough in order to sustain the pregnancy. My last two miscarriages I was on prometrium 100 mg 3 x's a day. My P4 levels were up in the 30's and I still miscarried. The prometrium helped prolong the miscarriage however due to something else (unknown still) going on I had my 8th miscarriage.
Avatar f tn I was on prometrium first 12 weeks due to high risk for miscarriage and I am now 29 weeks and feel great.
1262373 tn?1281543782 My progesterone dropped and my dr gave it to me to build my levels up and prevent a miscarriage due to low levels. The meds won't force a miscarriage, if anything they will give it something to implant to and raise your levels to help better sustain your pregnancy.
Avatar f tn t stop a miscarriage from happening if its due to chromosomal abnormalities. It will prevent a miscarriage that would have occurred due to low progesterone levels. I had to take it while pregnant with my daughter, an everything turned out fine. It sounds like you have an issue with progesterone which the prometrium will fix.
Avatar f tn What are they doing to prevent another miscarriage? Are you on Prometrium (or another progesterone supplement)? Or taking baby aspirin? There are some preventative measures to take to prevent miscarriage if it is recurrent and they know why you keep miscarrying (depending on what is going on). They need to check your HCG levels. They should double every 48-72 hours. They also need to check your progesterone.
Avatar f tn 2009, I was 2months along in my pregnancy. Is there a cure or any medications to prevent or lessen your chances of having another miscarriage? I just had one but my heart is sadden to hear people go through this 2, 3 and 4 times.
Avatar f tn I am 6w4d pregnant... third pregnancy after two m/c's in the first trimesters... and I am concerned about my progesterone levels. My initial labs showed a progesterone level of 15.5, and my hcg more than doubled. My OB prescribed Prometrium 200mg, saying he wanted the progesterone level >20. My concern is his refusal to check my progesterone level after taking the Prometrium.
Avatar n tn I get a progesterone shot once a week and take prometrium every day twice a day. It's so worth it! Hang in there.
Avatar f tn d like it to be at 5 or 6 weeks so I gotta take prometrium for 12 weeks. Hopefully this will help baby nurish and prevent miscarriage.
Avatar f tn Also, taking baby aspirin is supposed to help prevent miscarriage (conflicting studies here).
Avatar f tn He said that the HCG levels were perfect because they double in 48 hours, but that the progesterone is very low, he want me to be at least on 25. I just started on prometrium yesterday, 100 mg twice a day. He told me to rest, not to overwork myself, and everything is going to be fine, I really hope so, but you know what... I am not spotting today! I don't know if is because of the prometrium, but if it is, it does worked fast.
233053 tn?1321643821 I used to have midcycle spotting all the time. So, I started using a progesterone cream. I got pregnant with using that last year and had my son Cooper in June, but he passed away in July due to a heart condition.None of this was due to progesterone, just to clear that up. So, this time around I made my doctor start me on Rx progesterone so I would not fight with the spotting again. It will work... sometimes are bodies just do not work fast enough.
99627 tn?1301270952 I think your progesterone levels are increasing with pregnancy since your placenta keeps producing it. I think that high progesterone is not a problem, only low progesterone is. Ask your ob if you are concerned. Congrats again on your bfp!
464762 tn?1207328386 How well does progesterone treatment really work in preventing miscarriage? Are there risks to the unborn baby? Has anyone else been in this kind of situation? Responses are GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!
Avatar n tn Hi, I am having my progestrone levels very low so doctor prescribe me to take prometrium 100mg twice daily, now my question is, I got BFP when I did HTP and now I am 5 weeks 2 days. So now can I contiune to take prometrium after knowing that I am pregnant ? then are some positive as well as negative responses regarding this, my doctor said that it will be of no harm contiuning in the first trimester. is prometrium natural progestorone supplement ?
Avatar f tn Why should Prometrium not be prescribed? Do not take Prometrium if you have ever had an allergic reaction to it. Do not take Prometrium if you are pregnant or have had an incomplete miscarriage. Avoid it if you have ever had a blood-clotting disorder or a stroke. Do not take Prometrium if you have a history of breast or genital cancer, heart attack, unexplained vaginal bleeding, or severe liver disease.
1262373 tn?1281543782 t ovulating or having cycles. Every 35 days I would start a new round to force my body to have a period in hopes that it would kick start my system into ovulating - it worked after the 3rd cycle I got pregnant!!
Avatar n tn s body is different so it varies how your body will respond to medications given to you. With my 1st miscarriage the nausea was what confirmed the pregnancy for me and caused me to buy my first of 20,000 pregnancy tests. HPT was +, but when I was tested by my MD two days later, it was a BFN. I was so confused. I told her my symptoms of feeling flushed, horrible cramping that I have never experienced because I don't get menstrual cramps and nausea accompanied by vomiting.
Avatar f tn In the event progesterone supplements fail to support a pregnancy then low progesterone is most likely not the reason for your miscarriage(s). A pregnancy that is not viable will be miscarried despite the supplements. Have they done any testing to determine why you've had 3 miscarriages? Sometimes women have blood clotting disorders they're unaware of and taking a baby aspirin can help prevent future miscarriages.
