175665 tn?1306459024 Is anyone here on Prometrium now or used it in the past? I have had 6 miscarriages in the past, most recent one was twins Christmas Day. I just got a BFP Saturday night and went and had my 1st Beta drawn this morning as well as my progesterone level. Well we are expecting horrible weather, ice and up to 20 inches of snow, so my OB's office decided to close at 2:30 this afternoon and for will be closed tomorrow, possible the rest of the week.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed prometrium since the month of Feb. In Feb.,I ovulated with the help of clomid and prometrium. My progesterone levels were 34. In March my cycle never came and I contacted my Dr on Apr. 9 letting her know I never had my cycle. She schedule me to take some test to take . On 14 my cycle visited and was very weird . her instructions for the prometrium is to take on cycle day 16 and continue to take until a cycle comes. I stopped taking the prometrium th week before I called her.
Avatar f tn Studies in humans cannot rule out the possibility of harm. Therefore, Prometrium capsules should be used during pregnancy only if indicated.
387168 tn?1214756393 i had super low progesterone before being put on it and GREAT progesterone once used.. it should defintely show up though in a blood test.. its in your system all the same, plus if its in the blood doesnt' always mean its crossing over to the uterus in full strength.. so as not fun as doing vag suppositories was, it was worth it! good luck!
Avatar f tn Prometrium should only be used in the first trimester, if your levels are low. For many years women have used progesterone in the first trimester to sustain their pregnancy. For myself mine was at a 15, they like them to be above 20. At 45, I believe that is a very good range for pregnancy and most likely do not need them. Do not take it throughout your entire pregnancy, at that point the risks are unknown.
Avatar f tn Someone please help/ My obgyn prescribed me with prometrium because there was a possibilty that a hormone in my body was low. The same day he prescribed the meds, he ordered some labs and put me on bed rest and had me schedule a follow up in a week. I got the medicine filled at the pharmacy but wasn't exactly comfortable with taking them because my doctor informed me that prometrium is not fda approved. I decided not to take the medication.
1262373 tn?1281543782 Yes, Prometrium would not force a period.
Avatar f tn Prometrium, a progesterone supplement, is sometimes prescribed during the first trimester of pregnancy in women who have had a history of miscarriages caused by low progesterone levels. The addition of prometruim during pregnancy helps ensure that the women will carry the fetus to full-term. It works by helping ensure that a placenta is fully formed thus providing the necessary lifeline for the developing fetus.

233053 tn?1321643821 I was just perscribed Prometrium for this cycle as well. Like you, I hope to have a positive result. I was prescribed Prometrium to help thicken/sustain my uterine lining as it was <7. Hope this is your month. Keep us posted.
Avatar f tn My progesterone dropped during my 4th week of pregnancy and the doctor prescribed prometrium. I am currently experiencing brief but horrible cramping accompanied with some minor bleeding. I've read the prescription information pamphlet over and over, and that is apparently a side effect. But with my history...I just need to know if anyone else experienced the same while taking Prometrium but still was able to have a healthy baby.
Avatar n tn Prometrium is the same progesterone as that which the ovary makes - so it is 'natural'. It is probably safe to take throughout the first trimester. There are some researchers who believe that there might be a very small increase in the risk of a birth defect in boy babies called hypospadias - with hypospadias the urethral opening is on the underside of the penis rather than at the tip or end.
1110747 tn?1295844043 I had blood work done and found I have no HCG levels and progesterone levels were below 10. I am really hoping for an AF visit but I was wondering has anyone used Prometrium to get pregnant? I was thinking if it is for increasing your progesterone level during pregnancy and it can also be used to help you ovulate. Can you get pregnant by being on Prometrium?
1277616 tn?1284641425 Hello all...I guess I don't really have a question...but more of a statement..I am in my 2ww...8dptrigger, 7dpo and 6dp first round of IUI..and I am going freaking crazy!! I am on 600mcg's of Prometrium daily and just don't feel like myself!! The wait is unbelievable and I can't stop thinking about pregnancy, babies, success rates and failing. So I guess I do have a question....Does anyone else feel this way? Or has felt this way?
325477 tn?1250551309 I haven't used prometrium yet, but am scheduled to after my IUI next week. How many mg's are yall on? I think i'm scheduled to take 200mg vag suppository at bedtime, sounds like most people are on more than that, should i ask to do it twice a day>??? Did yall have any side effects from it? Thakns and GOOD LUCK!
Avatar f tn I took prometrium to help me not MC with my 3rd pregnancy, but only in the begining of the pregnancy, I was later put ona different type of medication to keep me from contracting until 36 weeks. i had a happy healthy little boy who has had no side effect that are apparent (he is now 2). if your concerned call your Dr office even if you don't have an appointment they can discus your concerns witht the medication over the phone or get you in sooner!
Avatar n tn I am 21 weeks and have had to take Prometrium orally ever since week 8 of my pregnancy for low levels of progesterone, also after having 3 miscarraiges within the last year. The diagnosis was a Luteal Phase Defect. I am currently still on the Prometrium although I only take 100 mgs everyother day as oppossed to the 200 mgs I was taking daily up until weeks 16.
628735 tn?1273875777 Yeah, it is kind of ironic that prometrium has that warning when it is such a common supplement in early pregnancy. But don't worry, it's really not an issue. Lots and lots of women are using it through the first trimester. As for when to start taking them, it depends on what it is used for. Some women take it every cycle after ovulation if their levels are too low to sustain a possible pregnancy...or to extend a luteal phase defect.
Avatar f tn I was in prometrium 200mg once a day with my 3rd pregnancy..and still i m/c at 17&1/2 weeks.. and i stopped taking the prometrium at my 15&1/2weeks( i should only take them for 12 weeks, but my dr told me to continued the left pills..) still don't know the reason why,, if it's bec. i stopped taking the progesterone supplement or there is some thing else..
Avatar f tn I was on prometrium with my last pregnancy, and although the pregnancy didn't work out, it had nothing to do with prometrium. There are so many women on here who took it during pregnancy to have all turn out just fine. Its a pretty common thing to give us "older" expecting moms. I already have a prescription for it as I am to start taking it again as soon as I get another positve pregnancy test. As far as I know its perfectly safe to take during pregnancy.
Avatar n tn I was wondering if taking the Prometrium at night and in the morning could be triggering bleeding? This is not like any miscarriage I have ever had. I guess I am still pregnant. I tried to get my OB to do hcg again today (48 hrs) after last level to just give me some peace of mind either way. They told me to wait until next week for U/S. ANY advice is helpful!!!! Thank you. I am so confused.
Avatar n tn If you have a problem with taking meds in pill form you should also have your dr put a note in your chart so if you need any other meds during the pregnancy the dr will remember to have it in a liquid.
Avatar f tn It can only help if the pregnancy is failing due to your body not producing enough in order to sustain the pregnancy. My last two miscarriages I was on prometrium 100 mg 3 x's a day. My P4 levels were up in the 30's and I still miscarried. The prometrium helped prolong the miscarriage however due to something else (unknown still) going on I had my 8th miscarriage. At 4 weeks my HCG level was 177 and P4 was 37 everything looked great but I started to spot and soon miscarried.
Avatar f tn DOES ANYONE KNOW IF PROMETRIUM PROLONGS YOUR TIME IN BETWEEN PERIODS IF USED AS A SUPPOSITORY..??..SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN A PERIOD BY NOW ~ 14PIUI ~ just wondering ~ and getting AWFUL nervous/EXCITED/nervous.....????.....REALLY TIRED too......go for blood work tomorrow ~....
Avatar f tn I DO know that as far as progesterone, you need enough of it to sustain a pregnancy. Especially in early pregnancy..something about until the placenta can fully form and take over providing the progesterone for the baby. Anyways, wished I could've been of more help. Good luck to you!! Take Care!!
422823 tn?1229736847 I took 100mg for one cycle (BFN) and the dr upped it to 200mg - on the third cycle - I got pregnant. I took it before I went to bed b/c of the side effects until I was in my 13th week. I'm now 30 weeks - I'd say, 'what could it hurt'?! I had two miscarriages and they ran a bunch of tests and found I have a blood clotting issue. So when we started TTC again I was told to take baby aspirin and prometrium.
Avatar n tn ve heard that when you are pregnant, your blood vessels dilate and I wonder if my headache is related to prometrium or possible pregnancy. When I first started prometrium, I was exhausted, but I got over that in 2 days. Since then, I've had no side effects except for these headaches. Has anyone experienced this before?
