I'm 28. I had 2 miscarriages, both lasted only 4w3d. I did all tests to find what was wrong. All results were normal, except a cyst in right fallopian tubes from HSG test. But my Dr. did not test progesterone levels so far. My period just started, my dr. asked me to take prometrium 200mg vaginally only after I have a positive pregnancy test.
Prometrium, a progesterone supplement, is sometimes prescribed during the first trimester of pregnancy in women who have had a history of miscarriages caused by low progesterone levels. The addition of prometruim during pregnancy helps ensure that the women will carry the fetus to full-term. It works by helping ensure that a placenta is fully formed thus providing the necessary lifeline for the developing fetus.

t stop a miscarriage from happening if its due to chromosomal abnormalities. It will prevent a miscarriage that would have occurred due to low progesterone levels. I had to take it while pregnant with my daughter, an everything turned out fine. It sounds like you have an issue with progesterone which the prometrium will fix.
What are they doing to prevent another miscarriage? Are you on Prometrium (or another progesterone supplement)? Or taking baby aspirin? There are some preventative measures to take to prevent miscarriage if it is recurrent and they know why you keep miscarrying (depending on what is going on).
They need to check your HCG levels. They should double every 48-72 hours.
They also need to check your progesterone.
Because I had a miscarriage last year. They put me on prometrium. As soon as I found out I was pregnant. I went to get my HCG and progesteron checked. it was HCG 130 and progesterone 45.8 which is good. But they put me on it just in case. I started seeing a new doctor now and she she is sending me to a specialist for the medicine to see if I really need to keep taking the medication, because it could be harmful to a developing fetus. My appointment is Friday.
My question is I am almost 14 weeks pregnant and was wondering if these pills can cause harm to the baby? how effective are these pills at preventing miscarriage? Am I still in the red zone for miscarriage even though I am practically in the second trimester of my pregnancy?

I am 6w4d pregnant... third pregnancy after two m/c's in the first trimesters... and I am concerned about my progesterone levels. My initial labs showed a progesterone level of 15.5, and my hcg more than doubled. My OB prescribed Prometrium 200mg, saying he wanted the progesterone level >20. My concern is his refusal to check my progesterone level after taking the Prometrium.
d like it to be at 5 or 6 weeks so I gotta take prometrium for 12 weeks. Hopefully this will help baby nurish and prevent miscarriage.
Also, taking baby aspirin is supposed to help prevent miscarriage (conflicting studies here).
He said that the HCG levels were perfect because they double in 48 hours, but that the progesterone is very low, he want me to be at least on 25. I just started on prometrium yesterday, 100 mg twice a day. He told me to rest, not to overwork myself, and everything is going to be fine, I really hope so, but you know what... I am not spotting today! I don't know if is because of the prometrium, but if it is, it does worked fast.
Why should Prometrium not be prescribed?
Do not take Prometrium if you have ever had an allergic reaction to it.
Do not take Prometrium if you are pregnant or have had an incomplete miscarriage. Avoid it if you have ever had a blood-clotting disorder or a stroke. Do not take Prometrium if you have a history of breast or genital cancer, heart attack, unexplained vaginal bleeding, or severe liver disease.
In the event progesterone supplements fail to support a pregnancy then low progesterone is most likely not the reason for your miscarriage(s). A pregnancy that is not viable will be miscarried despite the supplements.
Have they done any testing to determine why you've had 3 miscarriages? Sometimes women have blood clotting disorders they're unaware of and taking a baby aspirin can help prevent future miscarriages.
Hi , I'm responding as you asked . I guess sometimes you can't prevent a miscarriage .but other times you can have them cause your hormones are too low and that's where the prometrium (progesterone) comes in . I guess it's not always a good thing to take it and shouldn't be taken for very long . I have heard of alot of women taking it though . My doc after my miscarriage told me that next time I'm pregnant to call right away and we can start bloodwork .
On Tuesday I was told my Saturday Progesterone levels were 17-very good. OB said to keep taking Prometrium and to take it twice daily due to bleeding. He said U/S would not show anything yet. Tuesday afternoon my bleeding stopped and did not start again until Wednesday morning. It is now Wednesday evening and my bleeding has stopped again. I was wondering if taking the Prometrium at night and in the morning could be triggering bleeding? This is not like any miscarriage I have ever had.
I am 26 years old and even though my OB wanted me to wait to see if I had a 3rd miscarriage, I kind of looked at this as carnal torture!!! So, I went ahead and made an appt. with an RE. He agreed that I was pretty young to be having 2 miscarriage back to back. Personally, I wouldn't mess around. Try to make an appt. with a specialist who will monitor you more closely than your OB will.
The levels were 23oo last week thrusday and abput 4300 this monday. Progesterone dropped form 8.2 to 6.8. I am on 200 mg of prometrium and praying.
With my 3rd pregnancy I was put on prometrium and I am happy to say I gave birth to a beautiful 10 pound baby girl. My progestrone level was low when I was tested in the first weeks of pregnancy and my dr put me on the prometrium and they went up to normal. My dr said this was most likely was causing me to miscarry, without enough progesterone the baby can not properly attach to the utern wall. I hope this helps.
