prometrium

623920 tn?1276478891 She said this could be a cyst or I could be pregnant. She put me on 200 mg of prometrium. She did a Beta and it came back negative but she thought it could have been too early. I still have no af ...So i went back CD 36 for another Beta. I am now awaiting the results. I am wondering if this Beta comes back negative again... should I feel confident that I am not pregnant?
Avatar f tn When I put patients on prometrium, I recommend a pregnancy test on day 32 or 33, and if the test is negative I suggest stopping the prometrium since the long periods can be a bit misleading.
Avatar n tn My ob/gyn has put me on Prometrium to help regulate my menstrual cycle. My husband and I are trying to concieve our second child. With my first child I was put on prometrium for the first trimester due to low progesterone levels. This month I thought there was a chance I was pregnant and he told me instead of taking it days 16-25 I should remain on it until I know for sure if I am pregnant. I still have not gotten my period, and I am 3 days late.
Avatar f tn ) By all means, if you have been having unprotected sex and expected a period to come, go ahead and take a pregnancy test. Two weeks after you think you ovulated, most pregnancy tests are accurate. But it can take a while for prometrium to work to bring on a period (especially the first time you use it), so that might be what is happening. If you're trying to get pregnant, I hope that is the reason your period didn't come when expected after stopping the prometrium.
Avatar f tn I went through an ovulation induction cycle and was put on prometrium (progesterone) to support a healthy lining. I am now 20 days past ovulation, no period, and three negative home pregnancy tests (it is now day 33 of my cycle and I am typically a 28 day cycle, like clockwork). I talked to the doctor today who told me to stop the prometrium and I should expect my period in 2-3 days.
Avatar n tn Some get their periods anyway, but other have to stop taking prometrium before AF shows. They usually tell you to take it until you take a pregnancy test, then if positive, you'll continue to take it, and if negative, you'll stop. Best of luck!
Avatar f tn I'm a 33. Never pregnant. Never late. 23 day cycle on the money every month. Aug 10, 2009 was FDLP. After 4 home urine test and two blood test showing negative results I'm left with questions. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn My progesterone dropped during my 4th week of pregnancy and the doctor prescribed prometrium. I am currently experiencing brief but horrible cramping accompanied with some minor bleeding. I've read the prescription information pamphlet over and over, and that is apparently a side effect. But with my history...I just need to know if anyone else experienced the same while taking Prometrium but still was able to have a healthy baby.
1262373 tn?1281543782 Yes, Prometrium would not force a period.
290867 tn?1333569278 I had a m/c about 5 months before that, so I believe the Prometrium helped me sustain the pregnancy. Prometrium is a progesteron supplement, the lack of progesterone can lead to m/c, so it is supposed to help with keeping the pregnancy. Like the others said, around the end of the first trimester the placenta takes over and you no longer need the supplments.
543791 tn?1216381777 He also said that at 4 1/2 weeks they basically view it like a negative pregnancy tests if the pregnancy doesn't progress normally. It's not very alarming and basically just a chemical pregnancy. A whopping 75% of all fertilized eggs are abnormal with no chance of success, thus the high rate of m/c. Only 25% of fertilized eggs will result in a healthy pregnancy.
Avatar f tn My menstrual period is delay for 8 days, I had already three negative pregnancy test and my doctor recommended a blood test, which was negative also. My doctor wants me to wait another 2 weeks and if I don't get my menstrual period, do another round of blood test. I thought the blood test was definetively, if it was negative is because I'm not pregnant. Does anybody have any comments?
Avatar f tn asked me to take prometrium 200mg vaginally only after I have a positive pregnancy test. Is there any chance I could prevent miscarriage by taking prometrium starting day14, because i'm planning to become pregnant this time. Is it safe to take before becoming pregnant? My dr. told me to wait until day35, confirm pregnancy and to take prometrium. But the last two miscarriages was within 5 weeks. I could not call it as chemical pregnancy, because we saw the sac in u/s.
490183 tn?1361213953 From what I've read, most women will get their periods even though they're still taking prometrium, but it usually delays AF by a day or two...especially if your normal luteal phase (from O till AF) is on the short side. For women who get a beta HCG test done, I think the standard is to take progesterone until you get your test. If it's positive, continue until about 12th week or so; and if it's negative, stop taking it and wait for AF.
543791 tn?1216381777 Thanks! You guys are soo supportive. The appointment went very well. The doctor was encouraging and I learned a lot. Both of my m/c's were early. He also said that at 4 1/2 weeks they basically view it like a negative pregnancy tests if the pregnancy doesn't progress normally. It's not very alarming and basically just a chemical pregnancy. A whopping 75% of all fertilized eggs are abnormal with no chance of success, thus the high rate of m/c.
1610106 tn?1298173845 I wonder if your levels start to decrease before taking the prometrium can a pregnancy still continue? meaning could the prometrium bring the levels up after they go down, or does it always result in MC?
Avatar f tn I had a Progesterone test on Day 21and my levels were low so my RE started me on Prometrium (3 doses of 100 mg). My cycle is typically 28-30 days. Today is day 33 and still no AF (I had a blood test yesterday and it was negative). Does Prometrium delay AF?
Avatar f tn I was on prometrium with my last pregnancy, and although the pregnancy didn't work out, it had nothing to do with prometrium. There are so many women on here who took it during pregnancy to have all turn out just fine. Its a pretty common thing to give us "older" expecting moms. I already have a prescription for it as I am to start taking it again as soon as I get another positve pregnancy test. As far as I know its perfectly safe to take during pregnancy.
1310773 tn?1317095445 -( my progesterone test was 8dpo, but I had a blood pregnancy test today.

1741246 tn?1311324281 My only symptoms of the endo are extreme lower back pain and cramps when I ovulate. Ten days ago I had a frozen embryo transfer, and am on my two week wait until my blood pregnancy test. (3 sleeps left) The last two nights asleep, I have been awakened by the same kind of ovulation pains & cramps. I am certain that there is no way I could be ovulating right now, and am wondering if maybe it might be my endometriosis that is acting up because of the estrogen and prometrium I am taking.
Avatar f tn Once I start a period (if that happens) when I finish the prometrium my OB wants me to do a 3 FSH test and see if I can conceive during the three months of testing. If not, then my impression is that I need to accept the fact that I will not be a mother. I am very new to all of this and stressed out and saddened by this news. Is is really all that impossible or so rare that I should just hang it up???? Is there anything I can do to be more aggressive? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Hi! If you were my patient, I would wonder if you may not have had a period in awhile. If you have elevated prolactin levels (the usual reason for prescibing cabergoline) you may not have been having your period regularly and there may have been a build up of tissue within the uterus which is now being discharged. It is also possible that the lining of your uterus is very thin due to lack of estrogen stimulation and that is the cause of the bleeding.
Avatar f tn I'm at least 10 days late and that's really rare for me. I've been hoping that it's because i'm pregnant and i've been super excited about it but just this morning i took a hpt and it was negative. I've been crying all day and i can't seem to get myself together. I can't think of any other reason that my period wouldn't have come by now. How early can a blood test detect pregnancy? should i make a doctors appt? or should i wait a while longer?
Avatar m tn While taking Prometrium for luteal phase defect, I got several faint positives on home pregnancy tests. But then I began bleeding (light but steady full flow). So I stopped taking the prometrium. I've been bleeding for a few days now--still more than spotting though less than before. But I decided to take another home pregnancy test anyways because something felt funny. Two different brands of test were positive, darker than before but still quite faint. What do I do now?
Avatar f tn Prometrium, a progesterone supplement, is sometimes prescribed during the first trimester of pregnancy in women who have had a history of miscarriages caused by low progesterone levels. The addition of prometruim during pregnancy helps ensure that the women will carry the fetus to full-term. It works by helping ensure that a placenta is fully formed thus providing the necessary lifeline for the developing fetus.
Avatar n tn Prometrium is the same progesterone as that which the ovary makes - so it is 'natural'. It is probably safe to take throughout the first trimester. There are some researchers who believe that there might be a very small increase in the risk of a birth defect in boy babies called hypospadias - with hypospadias the urethral opening is on the underside of the penis rather than at the tip or end.
