I'm 28. I had 2 miscarriages, both lasted only 4w3d. I did all tests to find what was wrong. All results were normal, except a cyst in right fallopian tubes from HSG test. But my Dr. did not test progesterone levels so far. My period just started, my dr. asked me to take prometrium 200mg vaginally only after I have a positive pregnancy test.
Do not take Prometrium if you are pregnant or have had an incomplete miscarriage. Avoid it if you have ever had a blood-clotting disorder or a stroke. Do not take Prometrium if you have a history of breast or genital cancer, heart attack, unexplained vaginal bleeding, or severe liver disease.
Did you end up having a miscarriage? I am on Prometrium because I have had 3 previous miscarriages. I am only 4 1/2 weeks along and started spotting last night. I am still lightly spotting brown today. I am so nervous that I am having another miscarriage and was just curious if you have had any luck since then. Is it possible to spot and have a healthy pregnancy while you are on prometrium? Any feedback would help. Thanks!
It won't stop a miscarriage from happening if its due to chromosomal abnormalities. It will prevent a miscarriage that would have occurred due to low progesterone levels. I had to take it while pregnant with my daughter, an everything turned out fine. It sounds like you have an issue with progesterone which the prometrium will fix.
said she would call me tomorrow tomorrow with todays bloodwork results. I am very worried as I just had a miscarriage in March 2009 with only one period in between then and it was June 9, 2009. Could low progesterone have been a factor in my first miscarriage? and what is the likely hood that I will be able to continue this pregnancy? Dr said could be a chemical pregnancy or we could have just miscalculated the ovulation dates.

Because I had a miscarriage last year. They put me on prometrium. As soon as I found out I was pregnant. I went to get my HCG and progesteron checked. it was HCG 130 and progesterone 45.8 which is good. But they put me on it just in case. I started seeing a new doctor now and she she is sending me to a specialist for the medicine to see if I really need to keep taking the medication, because it could be harmful to a developing fetus. My appointment is Friday.
I pretty much knew on my own I had low progesterone from my last miscarriage in July and because they wouldn't prescribe anything until more bloodwork the next time I was pregnant I took matters into my own hands a little and decided to use progesterone cream as I had read a lot about it and saw the positive effects... Most likely the reason I've held onto this one so far I'm only 4 weeks 2 days and progesterone level was 16.11 they want above 20 and hcg was 295...
I would like to continue to have sex with my partner but do you think its safe? Could it cause a miscarriage? Also I\m on prometrium until 13 weeks so I;d hate to miscarry after sex and not know it..

Hi everyone. I had my first pregnancy and miscarriage on November 20. 2009, I was 2months along in my pregnancy. Is there a cure or any medications to prevent or lessen your chances of having another miscarriage? I just had one but my heart is sadden to hear people go through this 2, 3 and 4 times.
When my HCG level dropped, I was told to stop the prometrium due to the impending miscarriage. I go for an ultrasound on the 8th, but, at this point, I am in the process of having a miscarriage. I passed some tissue earlier this afternoon and have had the spotting turn to bleeding, which has been pretty consistent. I am pretty much just numb at this point....

My obgyn prescribed me with prometrium because there was a possibilty that a hormone in my body was low. The same day he prescribed the meds, he ordered some labs and put me on bed rest and had me schedule a follow up in a week. I got the medicine filled at the pharmacy but wasn't exactly comfortable with taking them because my doctor informed me that prometrium is not fda approved. I decided not to take the medication.
5, and my hcg more than doubled. My OB prescribed Prometrium 200mg, saying he wanted the progesterone level >20. My concern is his refusal to check my progesterone level after taking the Prometrium. He says the results would not matter, as he would not prescribe any additional progesterone, saying the body "can only absorb so much."
I have a friend whose OB tested her progesterone, and prescribed 200mg Prometrium for a level of 8.
Gave up all hope quit all meds got divorced lost 60lbs found someone new told him we would never have kids i was preg 8 mnths later rushed to a high risk obgyn had every test in the world done found out i dont produce enough progesterone gave me vaginal prometrium i have a healthy 11mnth old son. I am also currently 11wks preg on prometrium again praying all works this time as this is my last one im getting to old now.
daily low dose asprin, 100X3 per day prometrium (progesterone supplement), fish oil and prenatal vitamins. I take all except the prometrium even while not pregnant (we plan to try again as soon as possible).
I know it's hard, but stay strong and keep believing. I got to the point I never thought it would happen for me, yet here he is. It's scary but just take it one day at a time!
