Prometrium levels

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium levels

prometrium

I had an intrauterine insemenation done on saturday morning. The doctor prescribed prometrium because my progesterone levels were low with my first child. My daughter is 14 mo old and I'm still breastfeeding (supplementing) her about 2 hours per day. Has anyone else been put on prometrium after an IUI and still breastfeeding? Any experience/advice would be helpful.
Hello, Prometrium is a form of progesterone. Progesterone plays a key role in supporting the development of an early pregnancy. It is secreted by the corpus luteum from the time of ovulation till the following 35-47 days. Thereafter, the placenta takes over the job of progesterone production. Some ob/gyn's will give progesterone to women who have had recurrent losses, although there is no evidence in the literature showing it is beneficial.
Thanks a lot.
HI everyone I am 3 weeks pregnant and my doctor said my progesterone levels are low and prescribed Prometrium for me to take vaginally until I am 10 weeks pregnant, I am worried because I read up on the drug and there seem to be some serious side effects. Can anyone share their experiences with me?
For my irregular periods my doctor told me to start taking the prometrium 2 capsules 200mg for 10 days every month. I have being doing this now for 7 months and have had very regular periods. My question is because I am now having a period every month does that mean I am ovulating? Could the prometrium be helping me at all with my fertility?
(Usually dr's allow you to stop Prometrium sometime around 12-14wks, as by that point your body should be making a higher level than even the supplimental pill can give you... basically, by that point if your progesterone levels aren't high enough, there's nothing more a dr can do.) I had 2 mc's back-to-back with low progestrone levels. When I got pg again, my dr immediately put me on Prometrium even before my blood results came back (which again were low!
prometrium most likely didn't cause the problem doctors put ppl on it for numerous reasons i am taking it now and was told to help keep the pregnancy but it can only help with a healthy pregnancy if it's in danger of a mc or a mc has already started the prometrium is isn't going to work.
If your miscarriages are in fact from low progesterone then the prometrium will help. My levels were 13.8 for progesterone. Not sure how much the prometrium helps. I'm actually on something called Crinone which is taken vaginally. I only take it at night but I know that some women take it twice a day. I'm not sick at all either. Just sleepy and a little dizzy. Hang in there and stay positive.
My ob/gyn has put me on Prometrium to help regulate my menstrual cycle. My husband and I are trying to concieve our second child. With my first child I was put on prometrium for the first trimester due to low progesterone levels. This month I thought there was a chance I was pregnant and he told me instead of taking it days 16-25 I should remain on it until I know for sure if I am pregnant. I still have not gotten my period, and I am 3 days late.
my doctor put me on prometrium. 1st month 10 days later i got my period. 2nd month 10 days later i only spotted for a day and no period. Did this happend to anyone? What could it be?
Is anyone here on Prometrium now or used it in the past? I have had 6 miscarriages in the past, most recent one was twins Christmas Day. I just got a BFP Saturday night and went and had my 1st Beta drawn this morning as well as my progesterone level. Well we are expecting horrible weather, ice and up to 20 inches of snow, so my OB's office decided to close at 2:30 this afternoon and for will be closed tomorrow, possible the rest of the week.

i have taken prometrium every pregnancy and again now. my doctor told me my levels were hcg 698 but prog was 6.3 not good. i hope it will be ok. can't handle another loss.
Hi Everyone< I found out I am 3 weeks pregnant, my doctor said that my progesterone levels were down and prescribed prometrium, I am a bit worried because I was reading up on it and saw some possible bad side effects. As far as Cleft and heart problems with the baby. Is there anyone that can share some info with me who have taken prometrium while pregnant.
Does anyone know what your progesterone levels should be while on prometrium? Mine at 8 DPO was 36, and I am thinking I don't need to be on as high of a dose??
Im 42 and I have a miscarrige last summer on my 11 wop We are traing for almost 9 m and my dr put me on prometrium once a day because my level was low. Is this going to helpme get pregnate This discussion is related to Prometrium during Pregnancy.
My progesterone levels are low so my doc puts me on progesterone (prometrium suppositories) right when we do the IVF transfers and wants to keep me on them for 3 mos into a pregnancy. It does help support a pregnancy with keeping the lining thick enough if you're having low levels. You may want to check into a fertility specialist if you haven't already. Good luck!
I think prometrium will raise your levels whether you're pregnant or not...but hopefully this is your month!!! Best of luck!
My doctor prescribed me prometrium because my progestrone levels were low. The leaflet that came with the prescription said "do not take if pregnant". Is it safe to take prometrium?
My doctor prescribed me prometrium 100 mg for my progestrone levels, she suggested me to take orally, but after reading some threads over here I understood that taking orally would have less affect to increase my progestrone levels, so it would be better to insert vaginally. Is it fine & safe if I insert prometrium vaginally(sorry for TMI) ?
Progesterone is needed in a certain amount to maintain a healthy pregnancy (along with rising hcg level). Prometrium is progesterone. Take it!! I got my family doc to write me a script for it so I will have it to start when I get my next bfp (hopefully I get one). It can't hurt the baby to take it even if you don't need it.
My wife's doctor prescribed Prometrium today. My wife is currently pregnant. The label states not to take the medicine while pregnant. Why in the world would a doctor prescribe this?
I am also on prometrium for the first trimester but now that I am 12 wks they said my levels weren't high enough and I need to stay on it? Did either of you have a blood draw to check your progesterone levels before coming off the prometrium? Just curious what your levels were if so. Thanks so much.
My obgyn prescribed me with prometrium because there was a possibilty that a hormone in my body was low. The same day he prescribed the meds, he ordered some labs and put me on bed rest and had me schedule a follow up in a week. I got the medicine filled at the pharmacy but wasn't exactly comfortable with taking them because my doctor informed me that prometrium is not fda approved. I decided not to take the medication.
As a preventative measure, my RE prescribed prometrium for me. I was a little squeamish about taking the suppositories so I received the tablet form. I need to take 2 tablets 3x a day. I'm looking at the bottle right now and I'm a feeling anxious about it. I'm worried about the possible side affects. I'm scared about fooling around with my hormone levels. Please, please tell me I'm being silly.

I would defentily ask them to check your progesterone levels when you go back. Keep in mind that these inserts do not usually register in your blood.
I was prescribed prometrium since the month of Feb. In Feb.,I ovulated with the help of clomid and prometrium. My progesterone levels were 34. In March my cycle never came and I contacted my Dr on Apr. 9 letting her know I never had my cycle. She schedule me to take some test to take . On 14 my cycle visited and was very weird . her instructions for the prometrium is to take on cycle day 16 and continue to take until a cycle comes. I stopped taking the prometrium th week before I called her.
I am freaking out now, because my doctor called and told me my progesterone levels were low and that he wanted to prescribe me a supplement to boost it up and that I would need to take it into my 12th week until my placenta took over. I was cool with that, but then I pick the prescription up and the bottles say do not take if pregnant or trying to get pregnant.
My nurse did say once you start take progestrone, whether it be suppositories or Prometrium, don't stop until appropriate time. Cuz your body can have withdrawals and your levels could drop quickly. Which could cause problems. So talk to your Doctor to find out how much you should be taking, how often, when EXACTLY you should start and when you should stop. Good luck!
