Hiya sorry to hear that. I also had one on 22nd November, this also my first pregnancy. I don't think from what I have read there is any particular reason generally for a miscarriage, the chances are 1 in 4 so quite high. I feel the same, it's the worst thing ever. Just concentrate on getting yourself as healthy as poss and take folic acid and look after yourself. Have you had 1st period yet? I'm hoping mine will be this weekend/ next wk.

Prometrium, a progesterone supplement, is sometimes prescribed during the first trimester of pregnancy in women who have had a history of miscarriages caused by low progesterone levels. The addition of prometruim during pregnancy helps ensure that the women will carry the fetus to full-term. It works by helping ensure that a placenta is fully formed thus providing the necessary lifeline for the developing fetus.

Do not take Prometrium if you are pregnant or have had an incomplete miscarriage. Avoid it if you have ever had a blood-clotting disorder or a stroke. Do not take Prometrium if you have a history of breast or genital cancer, heart attack, unexplained vaginal bleeding, or severe liver disease.

Hello Doctor., I'm 28. I had 2 miscarriages, both lasted only 4w3d. I did all tests to find what was wrong. All results were normal, except a cyst in right fallopian tubes from HSG test. But my Dr. did not test progesterone levels so far. My period just started, my dr. asked me to take prometrium 200mg vaginally only after I have a positive pregnancy test.

I have symptoms, but the doctor has a presription for prometrium on hold for me awaiting these results. Any thoughts??

Did you end up having a miscarriage? I am on Prometrium because I have had 3 previous miscarriages. I am only 4 1/2 weeks along and started spotting last night. I am still lightly spotting brown today. I am so nervous that I am having another miscarriage and was just curious if you have had any luck since then. Is it possible to spot and have a healthy pregnancy while you are on prometrium? Any feedback would help. Thanks!

so you are saying that if I get pregnant while on the prometrium my risk of miscarriage is not going to be higher and the meds won't force a period right?

It won't stop a miscarriage from happening if its due to chromosomal abnormalities. It will prevent a miscarriage that would have occurred due to low progesterone levels. I had to take it while pregnant with my daughter, an everything turned out fine. It sounds like you have an issue with progesterone which the prometrium will fix.

I would have asked my doc these questions but I thought that it was the same a plain progesterone which I have taken before. Also for the Poll If you took prometrium and it helped you conceive did you get a boy or a girl!! We are using shettles method to sway for a boy. We have 2 girls.

Because I had a miscarriage last year. They put me on prometrium. As soon as I found out I was pregnant. I went to get my HCG and progesteron checked. it was HCG 130 and progesterone 45.8 which is good. But they put me on it just in case. I started seeing a new doctor now and she she is sending me to a specialist for the medicine to see if I really need to keep taking the medication, because it could be harmful to a developing fetus. My appointment is Friday.

The doctor prescribed prometrium for her. She is scared to death to take the medication because it has a strong warning on the label "DO NOT TAKE IF PREGNANT OR ANTICIPATE GETTING PREGNANT. Why would the doctor prescribe prometrium if the twin is OK at this time?

I had this before and the next month I found out I was pregnant back in sept 2007 whic ended in a miscarriage. Does this pill make it easier to concieve or cause a miscarriage? I pretty much knew on my own I had low progesterone from my last miscarriage in July and because they wouldn't prescribe anything until more bloodwork the next time I was pregnant I took matters into my own hands a little and decided to use progesterone cream as I had read a lot about it and saw the positive effects... Most likely the reason I've held onto this one so far I'm only 4 weeks 2 days and progesterone level was 16.11 they want above 20 and hcg was 295...

When my HCG level dropped, I was told to stop the prometrium due to the impending miscarriage. I go for an ultrasound on the 8th, but, at this point, I am in the process of having a miscarriage. I passed some tissue earlier this afternoon and have had the spotting turn to bleeding, which has been pretty consistent. I am pretty much just numb at this point....

So I called and talked to the NP on call and she talked to the on call doctor and they decided to call in a script for Prometrium to be on the safe side. I have never used this before and was just wondering from experienced users. I have a friend whose OB tested her progesterone, and prescribed 200mg Prometrium for a level of 8. This increased to 18, so he prescribed an additional 100mg. Her level subsequently rose to >60, at which point she became extremely symptomatic (i.e. nausea, etc.) He decreased her dosage back to 200mg, and her level fell back down to 39. This seems to conflict w/ my doctor's theory that raising the dosage above 200mg will not increase your levels.

Am I still in the red zone for miscarriage even though I am practically in the second trimester of my pregnancy? Somebody please help because I am really concerned about what could happen.

It is not a miracle cure for spotting. It will not prevent a miscarriage that might occur for much more common reasons, like a chromasome abnormality or blighted ovum, for example. Many doctor prescribe progesterone because it probably won't hurt anything, and it might help. But it will not prevent a miscarriage that could occur for most reasons. Spotting during early pregnancy is very common. Most times it goes away on its own and is not a problem, except for the worry it causes.

I was given a prescription for Prometrium from my Dr. Im not pregnant yet but start clomid in 4 days. My Dr said not to start taking the prometrium until I get a BFP. I MC twins back in September, but am not sure if it was due to low progesterone. my question is, on the Prometrium pill container it says do not take if pregnant. I have been somewhat confused about this as the dr said to take it as soon as I get a +.

I was just perscribed Prometrium for this cycle as well. Like you, I hope to have a positive result. I was prescribed Prometrium to help thicken/sustain my uterine lining as it was <7. Hope this is your month. Keep us posted.
