Prometrium for low progesterone in pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium for low progesterone in pregnancy

prometrium

Avatar f tn Very much so low progesterone could have been a factor. Mine was at 8 for my last pregnancy. I was placed on Progesterone Supplements. Very easy to take care of this problem. You will have to be on suppositories (or that's how most docs do it) until the placenta completely takes over...around 12-15 weeks. Don't know the answer to the second question. Only thing I can tell you is to pray if you are religious.
1110747 tn?1295844043 I’m about 5 weeks pregnant and this is my first pregnancy and I just got a called from my OB/GYN saying that I need to retake my labs for my progesterone level. I was informed that it was low. She didn’t mention that anything else was low so I am assuming everything else is okay. However, I was wondering if I was on Clomid during TTC, it shouldn’t be a surprise that my progesterone levels are low. Right? I was wondering if anyone else has gone through this and what you have/had to do.
Avatar f tn My current pregnancy I started taking prometrium in 100mg capsules 3 times a day 3 days after ovulation. I was extremely tired the whole time on it. The only thing my dr said I could do was to take a b6 vitamin at the same time. It also helped with my morning sickness. But I would have her ask her dr before she starts taking anything to help.
Avatar f tn Prometrium, a progesterone supplement, is sometimes prescribed during the first trimester of pregnancy in women who have had a history of miscarriages caused by low progesterone levels. The addition of prometruim during pregnancy helps ensure that the women will carry the fetus to full-term. It works by helping ensure that a placenta is fully formed thus providing the necessary lifeline for the developing fetus.
Avatar f tn Am I just setting myself up for disaster again??? Is it so rare to JUST have low progesterone??? Has anyone just had low progesterone and taken pills and you were fine?? Please help - I'm really scared right now that I am setting myself up for a delayed miscarriage. Also, could anyone tell me what really could be causing the low progesterone? Thanks so much!!! Baby dust to all.
1262373 tn?1281543782 It does not cause your period to start. They will probably bring you in for blood hcg testing and depending on the results tell you to continue if BFP or stop all meds if BFN..
Avatar f tn Prometrium is to help raise the progesterone to aid in implantation of the baby. It is taken the day after Ovulation and till the period occurs. Now as it raises the progesterone it can delay your period if you are not pregnant as during the luteal phase (after ovulation) your progesterone will decrease and estrogen levels will rise talling your body to shed the uterine lining causeing yoru period to occur. When you take suppliments the progesterone stays up and may not fall till stopped.
Avatar n tn I believe in it.
1564074 tn?1334490908 m sorry to hear about your low number. They like to see it at least in the double digits in early pregnancy, so hopefully the prometrium will help bring it up. Best of luck with everything!
Avatar f tn But that is not to say you will do the same by no means. Low progesterone can simply be you are really early in pregnancy. I would see an O.B. best wishes.
182352 tn?1231183410 Yes lot of women with progesterone take prometrium during pregnancy! I myself took progesterone injections but its about the same thing. Ive read lots of posts where people were taking glucophage also and it seems to be helpful.
1370609 tn?1306380021 Yes. If your progesterone is low, Doctors will usually give you some type of progesterone to prevent misscarriage. Good luck.
Avatar f tn In the event progesterone supplements fail to support a pregnancy then low progesterone is most likely not the reason for your miscarriage(s). A pregnancy that is not viable will be miscarried despite the supplements. Have they done any testing to determine why you've had 3 miscarriages? Sometimes women have blood clotting disorders they're unaware of and taking a baby aspirin can help prevent future miscarriages.
20922415 tn?1661860103 If pregnancy occurs, progesterone is produced in the placenta, and levels remain elevated throughout the pregnancy. The combination of high estrogen and progesterone levels suppresses further ovulation during pregnancy. Progesterone also encourages the growth of milk-producing glands in the breast during pregnancy. High progesterone levels are believed to be partly responsible for symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), such as breast tenderness, feeling bloated, and mood swings.
Avatar n tn For example, with my current pregnancy, my hCG levels continutally rose, but my progesterone levels were on the low end. So, during weeks 10-13 I was told to take 200mg of Prometrium orally to help maintain a within normal range level. By taking additional progesterone, this had no effect on my hCG levels. But, anytime your hCG levels are declining, it usually is indicative of a miscarriage. Sorry you are going through this. I was in your situation in March. It is tough...
Avatar n tn t cause m/c actually it prevents it. Many women take prometrium to support pregnancy. Many women have low level of progesterone so they start prometrium. It is safe to take. I started having some brown spotts the day when i had to do the first beta and my RE started me on prometrium and the spotting stopped. If you're having a m/c is not because of prometrium.Check your levels to see if is a good pregnancy.
1328947 tn?1295011446 I found it reassuring that lots of women use progesterone through the first trimester to help support the pregnancy. If your miscarriages are in fact from low progesterone then the prometrium will help. My levels were 13.8 for progesterone. Not sure how much the prometrium helps. I'm actually on something called Crinone which is taken vaginally. I only take it at night but I know that some women take it twice a day. I'm not sick at all either. Just sleepy and a little dizzy.
Avatar f tn Prometrium should only be used in the first trimester, if your levels are low. For many years women have used progesterone in the first trimester to sustain their pregnancy. For myself mine was at a 15, they like them to be above 20. At 45, I believe that is a very good range for pregnancy and most likely do not need them. Do not take it throughout your entire pregnancy, at that point the risks are unknown.
Avatar m tn Spotted at 6 wks blood test showed low progesterone took inserts but eventually heart stopped at 7wks. Pregnant and went in for early progesterone test at 5wks, no bleeding. progesterone level 6 now taking inserts. Has anyone gone on to have a healthy baby incase such as this?
Avatar n tn Hi, I had 2 previous miscarriages and all of my blood work came back fine so my dr prescribed progesterone for me, as the woman said above-for just in case situation, for the next time I got pregnant and I started taking the progesterone suppositories in the 1st trimester until my 12th week and I now have a 2 yr old son. My 2nd son, who is now 1, was conceived 3 mths after our first son. I also took progesterone with him but it was the progesterone cream.
10582759 tn?1411223910 I have had two previous miscarriages due to low progesterone. I was prescribed prometrium and now im 12w2d. It was very effective for me.
631676 tn?1333718203 help. i'm in my 2nd pregnancy. 6 1/2 weeks in. last pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 14 weeks (never cramped or bled it was picked up on an UT and so i had a d&e right away) now all of sudden my progesterone is low. it dropped to 11 since last week. this did not happen the last time and yet it still did not end well. i am terrified.
688845 tn?1325182236 The prometrium is for low progesterone. It does not increase your HCG. As a rule, doctors like to see your Progesterone level above 20, mine was 13. If you were given prometrium I would suspect your progesterone is also low. As far as HCG goes, there is such a huge range that you can't diagnose a number as "low" until you have it retested in 2 days and see if the number doubled. I saw on a website (beta base.
Avatar f tn Many people take that med in pregnancy and if your dr tells you to take it i would absolutely take it. Most women who have low progesterone in pregnancy and do not take this med go on to miscarry or have a still birth. I have never known anyone to have problems with their baby due to taking this med. If you have low progesterone you will be at high risk for miscarriage or still birth without this medication even in the second trimester.
Avatar f tn He said that the HCG levels were perfect because they double in 48 hours, but that the progesterone is very low, he want me to be at least on 25. I just started on prometrium yesterday, 100 mg twice a day. He told me to rest, not to overwork myself, and everything is going to be fine, I really hope so, but you know what... I am not spotting today! I don't know if is because of the prometrium, but if it is, it does worked fast.
Avatar n tn My daughter was diagnosed with low progesterone. She has had one miscarriage. In her old job she was under a lot of stress, which caused her period to be very unpredictable. Now she has change job and her period is coming every 28 days. Can a person get "over" the low progesterone, or may she still have trouble conceiving?
