Prometrium dosage perimenopause

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium dosage perimenopause

prometrium

864502 tn?1382640699 I was told a couple of months ago that I am going through perimenopause. I have irregular cycles. My 1st cycle was when I was 15 years old. I had one cycle in September and it did not come back the next month. I took birth control pills when I was 16....The 1st set of pills made me gain weight and the 2nd set made me sick. So now my cycles are 2-5 years apart. The last cycle I had was in May 2007.
Avatar n tn You cycle starts to become irregular. Could be perimenopause or premenopause.
Avatar f tn All my levels were within normal range and doc figured perimenopause. I had an ultrasound that showed something funny in the lining of the uterus as well as some fibroids and a cyst. I was referred to a gyn for further investigation. She booked a hysterscopy. Meanwhile, while waiting for the test, I had a period in January and then nothing. In March I started having hot flashes - they came on suddenly and violently and I was probably having 50 or so a day.
Avatar n tn I have been on bio-identical hormones for 3 years and they have worked wonders until recently. I wear a climera patch all month of .075 and I take Prometrium 12 days of the month. Is progesteron different from my prometrium? Should I stop all hormone therapy to see if the bleeding stops? I really don't know what to do from here.
Avatar f tn t had a period for a year. Perimenopause can last up to 10 years, and you do still ovulate during this time, although it is common for your cycles to be irregular. Having an LH surge does not necessarily mean you ovulated. All it tells you is that your body is gearing up to, or attempting to ovulate. Sometimes you won't and then may experience another surge later on in your cycle.
377493 tn?1356502149 Ok, so just got my prescription filled for progesterone supplements. This time it's a higher dosage...200mg X3, and it's the first time they have been prescribed to me in the form of vaginal suppositories. I have taken them orally in the past (as per my OB), but my RE prefers them vaginally, mainly due to side effects like being tired. And because this is a higher dosage then I've taken before, she's thinks this will be easier for me.
1368820 tn?1293693586 I take prometrium for 10 days Iinto the 2nd day I have headaches ,,this morning I took them 400 mg I was like a druggie or drunk I couldnt funtion I didnt know what my computer was ,, my daughter thought I was drinking ..I dont drink lol .. why is this happening to me , my second month on them ,, headaches last time but not the slurring or confusion ..I had a choice to take 1 each day for 30 days or 2 for 10 ..
377493 tn?1356502149 t ever remember this happening before. I googled it, and everything came up referencing perimenopause. However, those sites also said only 1% of women will go into perimenopause before 40 (that is only a month and a bit away). I am wondering if this is a side effect of the clomid, prometrium, etc. This is my 4th round of clomid, and I started it day 3 this month instead of day 5 (according to OB orders). Has anyone ever heard of that happening?
384150 tn?1399904816 So I finally found some info on shorter and lighter AF. Apparantly using prometrium can cause this as well. Were you by any chance on prometrium? Also, I meant to mention, I started having a shortened luteal phase a few cycles ago,and that is one of the reasons my Dr. put me on clomid. He said a 14 day luteal phase was perfect world scenario for conceiving. Hope this helps a bit. Good luck.
Avatar f tn 5, and my hcg more than doubled. My OB prescribed Prometrium 200mg, saying he wanted the progesterone level >20. My concern is his refusal to check my progesterone level after taking the Prometrium. He says the results would not matter, as he would not prescribe any additional progesterone, saying the body "can only absorb so much." I have a friend whose OB tested her progesterone, and prescribed 200mg Prometrium for a level of 8.
Avatar f tn I am not sure why the pharmacists are big on the troaches. Maybe they can regulate the dose that way compared to Prometrium which come in at 100, 200, 300, and 400 mg I believe. And, since sleep has been an issue, perhaps the thinking was that you would benefit from the side effect progesterone has when it passes through the liver and gives off a by-product that makes you sleepy. But, the progesterone itself should not cause these problems.
Avatar f tn So he put me on Prometrium 200mg for 12 days. I started it on 5/2 and last night I began spotting. Then today heavy flow (mostly dark brown and kinda gooey) and cramps. I have 3 days left of the Prometrium (after today) and he had said I wouldn't start until 3-7 days after. The whole idea of me taking this is to regulate my cycle (it was either this or birth control for 2 months, but he said since I an TTC to try this first).
Avatar f tn t know should I find another doctor....Would it be OK to come off Prometrium all of a sudden and I should reduce my dosage to once a day...Please help..so confused...
Avatar m tn Is the dr going to test you every other day to see if the progesterone levels increase so they will know if they should increase the dosage or if it is fine at the dosage they have you on? I take prometrium when I get pregnant and have found that it has a great effect on helping the progesterone levels.
Avatar f tn As a preventative measure, my RE prescribed prometrium for me. I was a little squeamish about taking the suppositories so I received the tablet form. I need to take 2 tablets 3x a day. I'm looking at the bottle right now and I'm a feeling anxious about it. I'm worried about the possible side affects. I'm scared about fooling around with my hormone levels. Please, please tell me I'm being silly.
756829 tn?1233878126 I would push to stay with same dosage if you feel good. Just be sure to keep eye out for palps, etc. Autoimmune diseases is a common factor in early perimenopause, etc.
Avatar f tn Went to my gyno today to have some blood drawn to see where I'm at with the whole menopause thing. Started having hot flashes after upping my Cytomel dosage and both docs want to see if it's hormones or the cytomel. My gyno said that since I have no uterus she'd like to start me on estrogen if my labs show that I'm in perimenopause. I don't know why but I thought that if you didn't have a thyroid you weren't supposed to take estrogen. What is the protocol for this?
Avatar f tn would that be a cause for concern? My doc said it wasnt a cause for worry. I dont agree. I was on 200 mg of Prometrium for this deficiency anyways so I dont think it should have dropped.
Avatar f tn Also, if you look at this listing of typical hypo symptoms, do you have others as well as hair loss and low metabolism? What is your daily dosage of T4 and T3 in you meds? Did you take the meds before blood draw for the last tests?
Avatar n tn When I found out my HCG level on the 3rd, I was told to up the dosage of prometrium from 100mg to 200mg. When my HCG level dropped, I was told to stop the prometrium due to the impending miscarriage. I go for an ultrasound on the 8th, but, at this point, I am in the process of having a miscarriage. I passed some tissue earlier this afternoon and have had the spotting turn to bleeding, which has been pretty consistent. I am pretty much just numb at this point....
1176767 tn?1266188094 I have been taking a vaginal dose of prometrium at night before bed now for about a week . My husband was not too shy to mention to me that on a romantic evening together while having an oral sex moment that I happened to taste different. Has anyone ever been told that this medication could make them taste like a copper penny? That would be the only thing that has changed in my daily routine, I just wanna make sure that there is nothing more serious going on with me.
Avatar m tn As I saw some of you taking Progesterone 100mg, just wondering if the doctors reduced the dosage after your progesterone level increased? What is the dosage do you usually take? Once or twice? Please share your experience.
Avatar f tn That is a pretty standard dosage to start. Are you taking it twice a day?
Avatar f tn Ok, here's the basic situation. My wife tells me that years and years ago (back way before we met, when she was in college) she tried birth control pills, and she had a weird reaction to them. She didn't say what brand, dosage, or whatever, but that would have been the late 1980's or early1990's. I'm assuming that formulas have changed since then. Well, when we got married, we stopped using condoms until our son was born.
