The addition of prometruim during pregnancy helps ensure that the women will carry the fetus to full-term. It works by helping ensure that a placenta is fully formed thus providing the necessary lifeline for the developing fetus.

Hi Elaine, So after 3 miscarriages I am pregnant (age 38) again with great hcg. And went for my 1st ultrasound at 6 weeks yesterday and they found the fetal pole and the hb was 116 bpm. So Im very happy... I would like to continue to have sex with my partner but do you think its safe? Could it cause a miscarriage? Also I\m on prometrium until 13 weeks so I;d hate to miscarry after sex and not know it.. Thank you.

I just checked online on the FDA government website and prometrium IS FDA approved.

When my HCG level dropped, I was told to stop the prometrium due to the impending miscarriage. I go for an ultrasound on the 8th, but, at this point, I am in the process of having a miscarriage. I passed some tissue earlier this afternoon and have had the spotting turn to bleeding, which has been pretty consistent. I am pretty much just numb at this point....

I was in prometrium 200mg once a day with my 3rd pregnancy..and still i m/c at 17&1/2 weeks.. and i stopped taking the prometrium at my 15&1/2weeks( i should only take them for 12 weeks, but my dr told me to continued the left pills..) still don't know the reason why,, if it's bec. i stopped taking the progesterone supplement or there is some thing else..

Hi I was wondering if any one took prometrium during their first trimester of their pregnancy? If yes, what were the side affects? I have had one miscarriage at 4 months and I fear I am probably having another one with my second pregnancy I have been prescribed Prometrium and I am just wondering if it has done any good to any one etc. Thank you.

Prometrium doens't cause m/c actually it prevents it. Many women take prometrium to support pregnancy. Many women have low level of progesterone so they start prometrium.It is safe to take. I started having some brown spotts the day when i had to do the first beta and my RE started me on prometrium and the spotting stopped. If you're having a m/c is not because of prometrium.Check your levels to see if is a good pregnancy.

so you are saying that if I get pregnant while on the prometrium my risk of miscarriage is not going to be higher and the meds won't force a period right?

I am now pregnant again I am 5 weeks and 2 days pregnant. I am scared to death of having another miscarriage. I had labs drawn last Thursday September 22 to confirm the pregnancy. My HCG levels were 215 and my proestrogen was 24. They drew my blood again yesterday September 26 as they are planning to watch my numbers more closely this time. They called earlier and my HCG level had went up quite a bit to 1100 but my progesterone dropped slightly to 17.

I would have asked my doc these questions but I thought that it was the same a plain progesterone which I have taken before. Also for the Poll If you took prometrium and it helped you conceive did you get a boy or a girl!! We are using shettles method to sway for a boy. We have 2 girls.

My last 2 cycles I miscarried. First one was a missed miscarriage and there was no symptoms and was 12 weeks, the second one was early (6 weeks) and I had cramping but no bleeding. Even went and had another beta which was 0 and didn't bleed till I shopped the prometrium. I guess it depends on the dose you are on. I take 200mg 3x a day, vaginal suppositories. Even with my fresh ivf that didn't work I didn't get af till I stopped the prometrium. I hope that helps!

Because I had a miscarriage last year. They put me on prometrium. As soon as I found out I was pregnant. I went to get my HCG and progesteron checked. it was HCG 130 and progesterone 45.8 which is good. But they put me on it just in case. I started seeing a new doctor now and she she is sending me to a specialist for the medicine to see if I really need to keep taking the medication, because it could be harmful to a developing fetus. My appointment is Friday.

I pretty much knew on my own I had low progesterone from my last miscarriage in July and because they wouldn't prescribe anything until more bloodwork the next time I was pregnant I took matters into my own hands a little and decided to use progesterone cream as I had read a lot about it and saw the positive effects... Most likely the reason I've held onto this one so far I'm only 4 weeks 2 days and progesterone level was 16.11 they want above 20 and hcg was 295...

Hi, I was take Prometrium for the first 10 weeks of my pregnancy and now im not on it i havent had another check up since i stopped taking it. I was just wondering if anyone else had to take it and how it went after the doctor took them off of it??

Just to comment about the prometrium it is great however please don't get the wrong idea. If you are going to miscarry you will and prometrium won't always work. I'm on 100mg prometrium 2x's day, additional folic acid, prenatal, 80mg baby asprin. I'm currently going through my 8th m/c with no live births. My last blood work showed my progesterone level at 59 and my beta 430. I was 4wks 5 days.

as joy rennee said if its prometrium i have takin it as a progesterone supplement and my ob gave it to me to help me keep my pregnancy bc i go into preterm labor and etc i have been pregnant 3 times and only one baby...

I am experiencing hairloss/thining problem following my miscarriage last year. My Ob doctor has put me on prometrium suppositories for gyn reasons, but he suggested that my hairloss may alos be related to low progesterone levels. I was wondering if Pometrium can reverse the hairloss? has anyone here experienced hairloss due to hormonal issues?

I am taking Prometrium and took it my last pregnancy. If your Progesterone is low you will miscarry. Likewise if there is a genetic issue with the little embryo that would cause miscarry Prometrium won't "save" the pregnancy. But at least you'll be able to get far enough along using the Prometrium to see what is going to happen and possibly prevent a miscarriage in the event your little bean is healthy as can be! Prometrium makes me feel really dizzy.

Last week due to an ultrasound dating about a week behind (I'm certain of my ovulation date) my Dr ordered a progesterone test. My levels were at 16.5 and so the nurse who I spoke with got me a prescription for preometrium (200mgx2 at bedtime).

Hi! My daughter's name is Jacey! I wish you all the best! A progesterone level of 15 is consistent with a viable pregnancy, so, that is good. There is no set level that we aim for when we supplement, and there are a lot of different opinions about what to use, my RE didn't believe that Prometrium would work, so I got daily shots--ouch. If you were my patient, I would probably re-check the progesterone level, for both of ours peace-of-mind.

i have almost the same pregnancy history as you I had to pregnancies (although one was premature) then a miscarriage at 12 weeks, and got pregnant again and my doctor put my on prometrium, but he kept me on till about 12 or 13 weeks to get past were I was when I miscarried. i don't know when it is safe to come off, but if your worried talk with your Dr about your concerns. I know it was easier for me coming off after the first trimester.

sometimes are bodies just do not work fast enough. It took me two years and a miscarriage before I got pregnant with my son. He must really be looking after me now because this time it only took 3 months. Stay strong and stay positive!!!

Hi there- I am taking prometrium right now and I also took it last cycle. I had my third IUI on Tuesday and I was instructed to start it yesterday. I thought the same thing when I first saw the bottle-don't take if you are or could become pregnant. I guess our RE's know best...best of luck to you!
