Prograf vs cyclosporine

Common Questions and Answers about Prograf vs cyclosporine

prograf

Avatar m tn There are articles which suggest that Cyclosporine may have benefits over Prograf insofar as recurrence of HCV post transplant is concerned but, I haven't seen anything related to HCV treatment response. I think I would play it safe and keep it simple and just do the treatment with Prograf. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I'm geno type 3. I've heard Prograf is harder on the kidneys than sirolimus which is why they switched me from cyclosporine to sirolimus. That's probably why they haven't suggested switching me to Prograf in fact this is the first time I'm hearing about Prograf or Tacrolimus (it's other name as I found on the web). Thanks for your response and congrats on your great report since week 4 !
Avatar n tn It is still considered off-label use but my doctor knew I would would follow his directions so I was his first patient to try it. First I had to get off Prograf because the interaction makes the Prograf 70x more potent. I was switched to cyclosporine and Myfortic. When the Incivek was started my cyclosporine was dropped to 25 mg once per day due to their interaction.
163305 tn?1333668571 The CIs - cyclosporine and tacrolimus levels are increased significantly by the PIs - as much as 70% increased levels - I believe. I do not know of any transplant centers who have begun treatment with Invcivek or Victrelis in their liver transplant population. It appears as though we're going to have to wait until they've figured out the dosages.
Avatar m tn My current dose is Prograf 3 mg AM/ Prograf 3 mg PM and Rapamune 4 mg AM. The intent is to convert me to 100% Rapamune because of the nephro-toxicity of the Prograf and my young age and because of the anti-cancer properties of Rapamune. Data, while horribly limited, has shown Rapamune's anti-cancer properties have had success against vascular tumors such as mine so EHE, in this case chronic, is part of the cancers Rapamune affects (some cancers it has no effect).
686869 tn?1227199935 Btw, I confused you earlier when talking about side effects of cellcept, I meant cyclosporine. I was told by my Doc that it is used instead of prograf with SOC, as presumably it has some antiviral effects. He was referring to a study by Levy at Univ of Toronto. It is used in Japan too. http://tinyurl.com/569v35 As there are very few studies on this, I was sceptical about it and didn't want to start it now. Best, Jeff.
Avatar n tn Blood levels of tacrolimus (Prograf) can also be equally affected for the same reason as with cyclosporine. [both drugs are calcineurin inhibitors] * omeprazole (Losec, Prilosec) * oxycodone (Oxycodone is metabolized by the cytochrome P450 system, specifically CYP3A4, of which the bergamottin flavonoid is a strong inhibitor) * hydrocodone (The hepatic cytochrome P450 enzyme CYP2D6 converts it into hydromorphone, a more potent opioid.
Avatar m tn i would be extremely cautious about using it until more data is available especially since its purported effects on tacrolimus and cyclosporine metabolism are extreme. i am quite confident that there will be clinical trials coming down the road extremely soon.
Avatar f tn So I guess patients with allergic reactions are like patients who have graft vs. host disease ? It makes me wonder if anti-rejection drugs like cyclosporine would help these people suffering from severe allergies ? I agree that there is some immune dysfunction in allergies. I guess what bothers me is that an estimated 60% of the population now has allergies and there are more and more cases of food allergies diagnosed in children now.
Avatar n tn The mean birth weight and gestational age were lower in the AZP group (2,995 g vs. 3,252 g [p = .001, difference of mean: 257, 95% CI: 106.3, 408.1] and 37.8 weeks vs. 39.1 weeks [p = .001, difference of mean: 1.3, 95% CI: .5, 2.0], respectively). The AZP group had more cases of prematurity (21.4% vs. 5.2% [p < .001; OR 4.0; 95% CI: 2.0, 8.06]) and low birth weight (23% vs. 6.0% [p < .001; OR 3.81; 95% CI: 2.0, 7.2]).
Avatar f tn I think 2 mg Prograf per day at 6 months out is a really nice dose and his Prograf blood level of 6.5 is definitely within range.
Avatar n tn If i lower my prograf lower than 6.5 through rate i start getting discomfort right side .i am having cognitive issues on prograf that are getting very hard to live with, seems like it got alot worse after my last of three mri with contrast in two years. was hospitalized two days after last contrast exsposure white blood count went to1000, headach, fever urine got exstremly foamy, severe itching ,tighting and rashd eveloped on lower legs two weeks after.
Avatar f tn About 6 months ago, I was finally diagnosed and started taking cyclosporine 100 mg 2x day. After a week, I could eat like a normal person—just about anything I wanted. It was great, it even allowed me to travel to Europe. The cyclosporine I was taking was a powder in a capsule, apparently this has been taken off the market and instead I took the same medication, but it was in the form of a capsule with alcohol. Unfortunately, after a short time, I was right back to before treatment.
Avatar f tn Yes I took Cyclosporine for my aquagenic urticaria, it helped so much but not enough to have a normal life :S but maybe for you its going to be different...
Avatar n tn I believe that diarrhea can cause an elevation in Prograf level. Taking Prograf with food can decrease absorption and result in a lower Prograf level. This is even more pronounced if you take it with fatty food. If Prograf doesn't upset your stomach it is best taken about 1 hour before eating - on an empty stomach. The range on my labs sheet is 4 - 16 so you are well within range.
Avatar f tn Pentamidine (aerosol) 1x monthly, Prograf 2mg 2x daily, metroprolol tartarate 12.5mg 2x daily, magnesium oxide 400mg 2x daily, oscal, multi vitamin, vitamin d3 1000iu 1x daily. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I went into rejection twice in the hospital and because of this my transplant team saw it best to put me on 5mg of prograf twice a day as well as 4 mg of rapimune, which by the way was off label and i had to sign a release form for. Just within the past 2 months they lowerd my dosage of rapimune to 2mg but kept the prograf the same. My question to you is exactly how suppressed is my immune system?
Avatar m tn I am still on 100 mg 2x daily cyclosporine. My cyclosporine through levels have been lower, the last time they were at 79. I Have been on 300 mg ursodiol 3x daily for biliary stricture since tx. I lowered the dose to 300mg once daily but just recently raised it back to 300x 3 daily because right side discomfort an increase in bilirubin. My headaches and fluid in ears have gotten better, still have the vision issues but heart palpitations have also lessened.
1644856 tn?1301038801 Will it come because of the fk prograf? I also fight diabetes, which I never had before the transplant. Now I feel like some junkie on pain killers. What do you think of all this? I`am worried about the future.
29837 tn?1414534648 05mg daily of Prograf. Has anyone who had a liver transplant gotten off the Prograf completely? Inquiring minds want to know.
Avatar f tn I am 6 years post liver transplant from genotype 3 Hep C. My doctors want to start treatment to clear the virus. I take Prograf for the liver transplant and I know Naragenin affects the Prograf levels. My question is if during treatment I also took Naragenin and my prograf levels were closely watched and adjusted for the Naragenin effects, wouldn't I have a better chance of clearing the virus.
Avatar n tn My history: liver transplant 1 year ago, had 2 moderate rejections and 1 mild since transplant. At present time having moderate rejection, recently had one portal stent and 8 Bilary ERCP's to remove stones and sludge and had stenting done, and at the present time there are no blockages. Was on Rapamune (5mg a day) prior to hernia surgery and then week before hernia surgery was put on Prograf (4mg a day) and taken off the Rapamune. I have been on Progaf since hernia surgery (8 weeks ago).
Avatar m tn If suppressants are at the correct trouph levels, say, Prograf and Rapamycin, what are the next steps - switch suppressants, treat?
