Avatar f tn In your case the problem may have been there for a long time, but repeated clicking of the mouse (thus injuring the tendon of index finger) could have triggered the pain now. Application of ice pack, anti-inflammatory drugs, wearing wrist braces, stretching and strengthening exercises when the pain subsides and modification of the way you click mouse goes a long way in avoiding further injury and treating the present symptoms. Try these tips.
Avatar m tn As you are a computer programmer and likely to be using your index finger using a mouse and using a keyboard a lot, it is likely that you are experiencing repetitive injury. It is likely that there is some form of arthritic changes going on with your joint. Because you use your hands a lot for computer work, it would be a good idea to get a correct diagnosis of the problem. Are you able to use one of your other fingers for the computer programming so that you can rest the index finger?
Avatar m tn s no swelling. My wrist pops easily. The central knuckles of my index finger, middle finger and ring finger all hurt. The index finger also hurt a few days at the base, but stopped. I have a doctor's appointment on the 7th. Sorry for the repeated posts; just a little worried and the appointment seems so far away. If you were me, what you lean closer to? Arthritis or tendonitis?
Avatar m tn Often proper working style, working without bending wrist, using smooth movements to operate the mouse and key pad, and relaxing the joints of finger, wrist and arm in between helps. A wrist support or arm support too helps and you have computer chairs with support for your spine and arm. In your case the problem may have been there for a long time, but repeated clicking of the mouse or any such work (thus injuring the tendon of index finger) could have triggered the pain now.
Avatar n tn I have this problem, burning pain between index finger and 2nd finger. I cannot clench my fist unless I straighten index finger then I can make fist with the other three. I have never heard of this before, so if you have no answer I will have to goto.
Avatar n tn The index finger of my left hand twitches on occassion. i have a bit of tingling in my left palm as well. What could be the reason for this twitch? Thanks, This discussion is related to Finger twitching and parkinsons, MS, neurological disorder, cardiovascular.
Avatar m tn When scalene muscle is the cause of pain, the pain is referred to chest, inner lining of scapula (shoulder bone), shoulder, posterior and lateral sides of the arm right up to the thumb and index finger. Repeated clicking of mouse of computer can injure the tendon of index, cause compression of median nerve and also cause this numbness. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!
Avatar n tn My problem is that my index finger falls asleep when I write or even scroll with a computer mouse. Even when I exercise the index finger starts tingling. Its really weird this has never happened to me before. Can you help? I'm not sure if its serious enough to see a doctor. Thanks for your help in advance.
Avatar n tn Do you have numbness of the index finger along with the pain? if yes, it could be carpal tunnel syndrome as it involves index finger mainly. Another possibility is of Raynaud’s phenomenon which is constriction of the blood vessels of the fingers and toes. But it is accompanied by skin color changes. Apply ice compresses over the finger. You can also take OTC pain killers. They should help. Also get your blood sugar levels evaluated.
Avatar m tn This could be carpal tunnel syndrome due to entrapment of median nerve. it is caused by prolonged use of computer or thumb and index finger as in improper position of arm and wrist can result in mouse elbow. Application of ice pack, anti-inflammatory drugs, wearing wrist braces, stretching and strengthening exercises when the pain subsides and modification of the way you click mouse goes a long way in avoiding further injury and treating the present symptoms.

Avatar n tn ve been thinking I have some sort of nerve damage and possibly anxiety related issues. Lately my index finger has began to twitch or tremor (not sure of the right term) it will move in a left and right direction for a period of time. It also seems to occasionally move forwards as well but rarely. 90% of the time this occurs when I'm sitting at my computer desk. I admit I have always had terrible posture in general.
584818 tn?1218287801 The funny thing is, I actually switched to using my left hand for my computer mouse about 2 months ago. I cut back my computer use compared to months ago and years past. A couple of days ago when I woke up, my right hand had pain to make a fist and numbness in the index and ring finger. It would eventually go away and be fine all day. But when I awake the next morning - same thing. This just started a couple of days ago.
Avatar m tn Hello, hoping someone might be able to help me with this. I was playing guitar and I hit the strings with my index finger. I didn't even notice at the time and it didn't hurt or even draw blood. But the finger was sensitive for a few days and then it started to swell. A few days later the entire top half of the finger was twice the size. I went to see a doctor and she x-rayed it and said she couldn't see anything inside it although the x-ray doesn't pick up everything.
Avatar f tn Notice what you do every day -playing games, using the finger more on f.ex the screen, mouse, etc. If you play that is, or on other things if that is the case. Try to avoid what you do the most, or switch finger you use (takes a bit time to get used to), to see if it can help.
Avatar f tn I'm real good with the mouse, but I'm totally laughable without it....heeheehee I'm so happy to be mousing again...
Avatar n tn My right index finger has been swollen for a month now. the knuckle is painful to the touch, but i'm able to bend it. Any ideas what it could be?? Thanks for any help!
Avatar n tn Symptoms involve pain in the hands and arms when typing and using the mouse, and generally end up making many daily activities painful or impossible. Burning, numbness, or tingling in your palm, wrist, thumb, or fingers also are the common symptoms encountered by most patients. Common causes are a repetitive motion with your wrist like typing on a computer keyboard, using a computer mouse, playing racquetball or handball, sewing, painting, writing, or using a vibrating tool.
211940 tn?1267881266 Hi all, hope everyone is doing OK. I know, when anyone asks me how am I doing, my response is, I'm surviving. Even though, I take Rx for tremors, I still get them, but usually if I have tremors in my hands, it's my hands, at my wrists. Now I'm getting tremors, in individual fingers, most of the time, my index fingers (ex. when using my PC mouse, or typing. That's probably what accounts for typing a key, multiple times, huh (duh, guess I should have figured that one out).
Avatar m tn I feel your pain! Literally! It is a specific burning sensation at the tip of the fingers and thumbs where they make contact with the device. However, I'm starting to think it has less to do with the screen than using wireless devices in general. When I use my wireless mouse with my computer it doesn't take long before my entire hand is burning on the skin! This only happens with wireless. I also have a mouse that is wired and I don't experience this problem.
1625195 tn?1332178662 But my middle finger, index finger and thumb are definitely numb and slightly swollen. My index finger, though, is the only finger experiencing some pain along with the numbness and swelling. Things to note: I did not bang my elbow on anything. I have rested it while sitting at my computer and have been bending it and actively using my left arm where my left arm has had to bend fast and flex out with more than ten pounds (lifting and putting away groceries mostly).
Avatar f tn I am a 56 years old female and in relatively good health. I take one medication for hbp. Recently the middle joints of my little fingers are very tender, red and tend to be very itchy, if that makes any sense and I've also begun noticing some tiny red nodules at the first joint of my index fingers and little fingers. Some times the nodules are a little more pronouced than other times.
Avatar n tn t push down on my finger/knuckle nor have an open hand and like you getting up using your hand or popping your knuckle with finger straight. Now my issue is that my work switched insurance companies and now I have crappy insurance and can't really afford to get it checked out let alone fixed. If it's something serious I will have to figure something out. Any help will be appreciated.
Avatar m tn Three days ago I woke up feeling pain in my right index finger. I kind of ignored it and it would just hurt sometimes when I did something in some positions like holding the mouse, typing on the keyboard and etc. Yesterday I woke up and realized my index finger is kind of swollen but not a lot. Like you could barely tell it was swollen. Now today my whole hands hurts like deep inside I feel this painful sharp pain and I think my finger is still a bit swollen.
Avatar m tn s going to get herpes on her hand (spread to other parts of her body) and that I could have infected her by using that finger with the reoccurring small paper cut lesion!
Avatar n tn It started with my index finger having spasms, and then moved to in between my middle finger and pointer finger knuckle. It now is deblilitating my pinkie and ring finger and causing some minor pain in the outside part of my wrist. With my hand straight out I cannot I cannot put my pinkie or ring finger together and I cannot get my ring finger together with my middle finger. Any thoughts? I have attached a pic of how close I can get my fingers together. I am 32 and relatively healthy.
Avatar m tn I noticed this a year or two ago, that my fingers primarily on the hand I use the mouse with, naturally rest in the position as if they were still holding a mouse or bent to type, my knuckles are also larger then before, they have been like this since. here are some photographs of the hand I use for the mouse which is the worst. sorry for the poor lighting btw i have eczema/dermatitis on my hands so that's why they are reddish.
Avatar m tn There are also techniques like tapping on your fingers. With the index finger tap the index finger on the other hand and a few times and move on to tapping the other fingers. Hope that helps. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn Hello Dr.Santos, Actually the finger that was painful the other day is okay. I mentioned that my index finger was hurting on my left hand to my chiropractor during my regular biweekly adjustment. She gave me an adjustment on the inside of my elbow, she said it was connected to my index finger. After the adjustment, my index finger doesn't hurt any more. However, I do have pain sometimes on several fingers of my right hand, not today though.
