Avatar m tn My doctor has switched my medication from effexor to pristiq and I'm wondering about the withdrawals I'm going to experience ?I was on effexor for about 2 yrs . I also deal with sleep apnea and started using a mouth piece for it . I'm experiencing extreme fatigue more than usual .I don't know if this is a result from switching medications ? If u can me with this I'd really be grateful thanks !
Avatar f tn Just hot my thyroid levels at a good level. I switched from pristiq to cymbalta back in November. I am tired ALL the time. More than when my thyroid was out of whack. Could the cymbalta be causing this and if so, what if I took it at night?
Avatar m tn re most likely suffering from withdrawal from abruptly stopping the Pristiq. What you can do is go back on it at the last dose at which you felt okay and taper off more slowly under the care of your psychiatrist. If your psychiatrist doesn't recognize or care about withdrawal, get another. If you find you need the med, which it sounds like you're finding you don't, but if you do, you might try Effexor.
Avatar n tn 5mg along with the pristiq for a week, and then just pristiq. I am afraid, seeing how just being off effexor for 7 hrs. put me in E.R. The Doctor said pristiq won't do that if I miss or am late on a dose. He better be right.
1933920 tn?1323394258 It's often okay to go from one medication to the other. Because the Pristiq is in the same family of medications you won't suffer withdrawal from the Lexapro. The Pristiq will take over for the Lexapro and hopefully do an even better job. Hope this helps!
1450085 tn?1298941702 I had been taking 150mg of Effexor and switched down to 50mg of Pristiq. I am happy to report no withdrawal symptoms at all, even though my doseage was lowered considerably. (I think, if I remember right ~but don't know for absolutely sure~50mg Pristiq = 100 mg Effexor XR). It was a smooth and easy transition. Mentally, I've noticed no difference either. It was completely smooth. Good luck! Let us know how you are.
455167 tn?1259257871 Hello. My therapist has suggested changing from effexor xr to the chemically similar pristiq. I've been on 150mg per day of effexor for several years, and have experienced withdrawal effects before due to missing doses for a few days, so I know what that's like. To start, I'm taking 50mg pristiq and 75 mg effexor daily for 7 days, and then 50mg pristiq and 37.5mg effexor for the next 7 days. My therapist has suggested this dosing to make the transition gradual.
Avatar f tn But I think this drug is more like an ssri than an snri, which is what effexor and pristiq are. Keep in mind effexor and pristiq are almost identical drugs, with pristiq just eliminating some of the molecules in order hopefully to reduce side effects but mostly to get new patent protection. It's like Celexa and Lexapro. This class of drugs is stimulating as it targets norepinephrine as well as serotonin, and is usually not used for primary anxiety as a result.
Avatar f tn Please do not try and withdrawal from the Klonopin on your own. You must work with your doctor or a PMM to work out a taper schedule that will make the transition safe and comfortable.

7650348 tn?1393006631 d wait to come off the alprazoloam, also very difficult to stop taking, until all withdrawal from the Pristiq stops, and if you find the withdrawal too much for you, protocols call for going back on the last dose at which you felt fine and try it slower. You might try taking a hefty daily dose of fish oil -- many claim it helps with brain zaps, though it won't do much for the anxiety.
Avatar f tn on Monday,Sept 5th had an appoitment with Psychiatrist, and after i explained her my symptons,( i also cried, was overwhelmed) she said I had a severe depression, so she also prescribed me Pristiq 50mg one tablet per day in the morning after breakfast. I never took the Pristiq i am scared of the side effects,So all this time since September 3rd until ,now October 13th, I've been only on Clonazepan,I am scared of becoming an addict as I have read these pills tend to be addictive.
407790 tn?1397761026 Be careful how you come off Pristiq -- packs a wallop of a withdrawal, so go it nice and slow and safe so you'll avoid that. After I came off Paxil, I did lose almost all the weight I gained on it, so the answer is probably yes, the weight will come off as mysteriously as it came on.
Avatar f tn Hi Im a 28 yr old female just had a baby 4 months ago i started takin pristiq 50 mg in September because i fell into bad postpartum depression and suffered horrible anxiety my whole pregnancy.. After taking it I started feling okay I think it was more me wanting to feel better.
Avatar m tn About early december 2009, I decided to try Pristiq for my anxiety since I had already taken effexor for 2 years few years ago and it supposed to be very similar. I took pristiq for almost 3 weeks and quicly stopped it due to a major panic episode one night where all of a sudden i had extreme anxiety and racing thoughts. Due to this episode my doctor told me that it didn;t feel that I was a right candidate for this medicine anyways and gave me xanaz for whenever needed.
3215224 tn?1345829226 Break up the pills to go more slowly off of it. I looked up side effects on-line, but only saw that caffeine withdrawal is very real — producing enough physical symptoms and a disruption in daily life to classify it as a psychiatric disorder. Not sure if it's true, but with any medication, going as slow as possible is the best. With you in menopause, there are a lot of possible symptoms just from that. How long have you been taking Pristiq? Did your symptoms started with taking that?
Avatar n tn Effexor makes it even worse. So the doctor changed me to Pristiq and said side effects will not be as bad as with Effexor. After taking it for 1 month I kept eating and gaining weight. And my menstrual cycle went crazy (one and a half months thinking I started an early menopause!). So I panicked and stopped Pristiq, but next day felt the horrible withdrawal effects (dizziness and nausea that kept me in bed). Next day I started taking 80 mg Prozac and withdrawal effects diminished.
Avatar m tn m now OFF of any Fibro meds and the only thing I take is blood pressure RX and Pristiq. My New Year Goal is to get off all MEDS - I think I would feel so much better if I could focus on improving my health naturally!
Avatar f tn Pristiq is Effexor, just the new and improved model. So while it is a different med, it's also very similar to what you were taking, albeit much more expensive since it's not off patent. But that being said, the same thing was done to Celexa in creating Lexipro, and people report very different experiences on the two meds, so Julie is probably right, you're probably suffering some kind of withdrawal or side effect.
Avatar m tn It could be either one of them. Yes, it could be withdrawal and may go away soon. Or, it could be that you need the meds. It's really hard to say how long withdrawal will last. We're all so different and some of us have almost no withdrawal symptoms after tapering and go on to feel just fine with no depression. It's up to you of course if you want to start back on your meds. I understand what a hard choice it can be.
Avatar n tn Hi- I am currently withdrawing from Effexor, which I was given to taper off Pristiq. Because Pristiq comes in the 50mg dose, there is no good way to come off it. It is essentially the same as Effexor, which is notoriously hard to withdraw from. My psych said that 50mg of Pristiq=150mg of Effexor. If you jumped from this dose or higher, I would expect to have withdrawal for at least 3 weeks, maybe longer. At least you will probably have depression and anxiety.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know how long it takes to get your OWN energy back from taking Adderall 30 mg? I've been off them now for 21/2 weeks. I stay so tired and my housework isn't getting done. I'll be 66 Sunday, so does age have anything to do with it? I'm widowed and lonely and the Adderall helped me keep busy.I take Pristiq for depression, and it helps. My health isn't great but i manage.
