WELLBUTRIN (bupropion hydrochloride), an antidepressant of the aminoketone class, is chemically unrelated to tricyclic, tetracyclic, selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor, or other known antidepressant agents. PRISTIQ is an extended-release tablet for oral administration that contains desvenlafaxine succinate, a structurally novel SNRI for the treatment of MDD. Pristiq is an SNRI while Wellbutrin is not. Abilify is not in either class, it is totally different.

Wellbutrin is an energizing antidepressant that can increase anxiety and actually cause panic attacks in some people. Pristiq is approved for depression, but may also help with panic disorder and anxiety.

Both Pristiq and wellbutrin are stimulating antidepressants, and aren't usually first choices if anxiety is the main problem. If depression is the main problem, that's a whole different story. I'd try a different ssri, because if it's the serotonin reuptake inhibition itself that's causing the problem, Pristiq does that as well, but it also acts on norepinephrine, a stimulating neurotransmitter.

My doctor (who I think is brilliant and I feel very comfortable with) told me he has placed many of his other patients on Pristiq with good results. As I mentioned previously, it is supposed to have very few side effects, if any; but of course every body is different. If you do not trust your doctor, maybe you could get a second opinion.

I have been on many different antidepressants over the last 25 years. Cymbalta was the worst experience of all, Prozac, paxil Effexor, all worked for a while but after about 7 to 10 years they just didn't help much and I would switch to another one. My psychiatrist finally put me on Wellbutrin about 7 years ago. OMG it was a life saver, literally.

I know Pristiq works with Serotonin and Norepinephrine, and Wellbutrin works with Dopamine...and it is my understanding that those are the 3 chemicals or hormones or whatever that work with your emotions. I used to be on Lexapro which only works with Seratonin and that did nothing for me...but when i switched to Pristiq all of a sudden my anxiety almost completely went away, but my depression stayed.

I'm new to this forum and I wanted to say, "hello", but I also have a question and a few comments. I've been on several diff types of anxiety meds and just a few weeks ago my dr. put me on a new one b/c the Wellbutrin wasn't working for me. He put me on "Pristiq", he told me it is a newer anxiety med, but it's basically a spin-off of "Effexor". I didn't like the Effexor, but the Pristiq is working great!

i have been on Pristiq for 8 months now and i also take Wellbutrin. 50mg of the Pristiq and 400mg of the Wellbutrin. Only been on the Wellbutrin for a few months. For the most part i thought i was doing alright. But now i havent gotten hardly any sleep in a week. I missed a couple doses and i wonder if this is why. I also have a constant headache. I take mine at night and then just 200mg Wellbutrin in the morning. i wonder should i try and take it at another time? As for the sex drive...

Wellbutrin is the only AD that doesn't make me go nuts. If you would have asked me 20 tears ago how it made me feel, I would have said stoned, but who knows because I was on other meds then too. Today it (and the Lamictal) doesn't make me feel like anything, except better, which is a good thing.

I have been on Pristiq 100mg for 3 months, Wellbutrin 150mg for 5 weeks and we added Strattera 40mg. Pristiq for PMDD, Wellbutrin for motivation and Strattera for focus. Separately they help each thing only. So was wondering if anyone else is on a combo like this and it’s helped. And how long. I seem to be anxious more lately before adding Strattera....hoping this helps it. No libido what so ever.

When I got off Pristiq to start a Tri-cyclic (thank god that worked) The withdrawl from the Pristiq was massive. Far worse than with Effexor. 2 solid months of almost vilont withdrawl before that damn drug left my body. Effexor was a cake wak in comparison. I say this not to scare you. but to warn you. That Damn Pristiq get's a lot of advertisment. That doesn't mean it's a quality antidepressant. Maybe it will work for you. It's hard to say unless you try.

Hi there again! I'm sorry to hear you're still struggling! Are you on any meds right now? Still on the Pristiq? My advice would be to go ahead and try something else. For one, you were doing well and had success intially. Unfortunately the increase in the Pristiq and adding the Wellbutrin was way too much, which isn't suprising, especially the Wellbutrin, it can be quite activating. I would talk with your doctor about trying something else.

I have suffered from depression most of my adult life. I take lithium Wellbutrin pristiq and clomping. I am going through menopause. I take about 6 six 7.5 hydros a day. I have taken the meds for 20 years, but the hydros about 2 years. Lately I have become morbidly depressed, and I need to know if you guys think its the hydros. Sometimes I do take more, but never more than 10 hydros.

It's hard to find people who have taken the exact same stew someone wants to put you on. Those of us who have been put on stews of drugs rather than one or two are on all kinds of different stews, so I can't claim to be on your stew. Whether it's safe or not, however, doesn't depend on someone else taking the exact same stew.

I've been on wellbutrin sr. for about 4 years now, but it wasn't helping with my bipolar & depression. So I've been on many combinations with wellbutrine & nothing so far is helping me.So, my Dr. added prozac. There are a number of reasons we tryed so may diffrent meds. 1 is weight gain. 2. is not being able to sleep at night. & 3 the ups & DOWNS- mood swings & so on. When I saw my doctor again, he gave me samples of Pristiq to take in conjunction with the Wellbutrin. This combination worked extraordinarily well for me and I finally saw purpose and meaning in life again. I saw my doctor a couple of weeks ago as I had nearly finished the samples he had initially given me. We discovered that my insurance does not cover Pristiq and he had no remaining samples at his office.

If you are looking for names there is Prozac, pristiq, Wellbutrin, Zoloft, cymbalta, etc.... Just speak with your doctor first.

Having a thyroid condition, I watch out A LOT what I eat, no fat no white sugar and as little carbs as I can. Even with the diet, I did put on about 10 kg in 3 months without changing anything in my diet. I was wondering if there was a medication similar to remeron w/o the weight gain side effect? Thanks so much for the additional info! You're right, that's QUITE the cocktail of meds! How long have you been on that specific regimen? You're new to the Cymbalta (from the Pristiq) for about a month, correct? I personally think that adding the Abilify is a bit premature. You never know, you may see some significant improvements with the Cymbalta, but it's still kind of early to fairly assess your progress with it.

Please help. I have been suffering a severe bout of depression for almost 4 months now and was finally referred by my doctor to a Psychiatrist. After unsuccessfully attempting several types of medication (Nortrilene, Valdoxan and Sertraline) I have now been given Wellbutrin XL. I take 150mg once a day in the morning but after only a few days on this I started feeling really argumentative and aggressive.
