Many AD's have side effects that affect the libido, guess it applies to both sex es. As far as I know all AD's have this drastic effect . Hopefully you'll find one that's OK for you . Good luck.
This was in the hope that maybe I could reduce or get off Wellbutrin (memory problems) if the Pristiq did not cause sexual side effects. I have been on Pristiq for a month and a half now. The transition was seamless. Within two weeks, I was no longer clenching my jaw and stopped using the mouth guard. I am also seeing a lessening of the sexual side effects. I did not have any of the sweating or dry mouth, but that may be because I have been on an SNRI for awhile and my body was used to it.
I take 10mg of lexapro once daily but its not enough. My dr tried having me take it 2x's a day but I had VERY bad side effects, so im back to just 1x a day. I don't want to switch the lexapro all together because its def. helped more and has had less side effects than anyother I have been on. I have also tried zoloft, prozax, paxil, and wellbutrin xr. Anyways, I was just wondering what expeirences anyone else has had on abilify? I know it effects everyone different but.....
My only complaint with Pristiq is that at 100Mgs a day dosage I have sexual side effects from it. I am male and it has reduced my sex drive by about 50% which I hate.
The side effects of stopping Pristiq are much the same as with Effexor. They can be rough as I once ran out for two days and had withdrawls.
If you're doing well on Effexor, I don't see any reason to switch. I've never been on Pristiq, but side effects when taking PRISTIQ 50 mg may include nausea, dizziness, sweating, constipation, and decreased appetite.
In clinical studies of the recommended 50-mg dose, the percentage of people who stopped taking PRISTIQ due to side effects was similar to placebo (sugar pill).
Actually, Lexapro has no "maximum." 20mg is just the most studied by the manufacturer. Lexapro is basically another form of Celexa so the company could get another patent, but they do seem to affect people differently. I was on 30mg of Lexapro, but it didn't help and I actually got worse. So now I'm tapering off it to see if I can find something that works to undo what quitting Paxil did to me. It's the old medication carousel.
and that my emotions are beginning to come back. However, I am experiencing quite a few with drawl effects as well.
I know everyone gives the advice to NOT taper off without dr assistance, however, I have spent so many years on these medicines and I truly believe my cognitive functioning has dwindled. I notice that I can't remember words, lose my train of thought, have trouble concentrating, and my emotions feel flat lined.
Is there hope that these symptoms will go away?
It seems that this medication either works great for you from day one or it is a complete nightmare with side effects worse then your initial Anxiety. Naseau, Brain Zaps,, High Blood Pressure, Sand Shakes? and blurred vision are common in the 248 posts I read on Web Md. Not to mention the awful withdrawl symptoms associated with this drug. There has to be better options out there so I am wondering why anyone would take this medication?
Five years ago, I took Zoloft for anxiety for 6 months. I remember feeling good on it, but the initial side effects and sexual side effects were awful. So, my new doc recommended an SNRI instead. I also have POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome). This basically means that my autonomic nervous system does not function properly and my heart rate accelerates when I stand or stand for long periods of time.
That's a tough question since many drugs can have many different side effects on people. Some more common and some less common. While this might be caused by the Pristiq there's no way to know for sure. You could always call the pharmacist and ask if That's one of the side effects of the drug, but even if it's not listed under the drugs side effects list in the pharmacists directory doesn't mean it's not possibly.

the doc added abilify 1mg and i felt better. then i felt the depression slipping back. the abilify was increased to 5mg. but i developed serious side effects. so now i'm on pristiq 50mgs . i've been on lexapro 20mgs for about 5 years. the doc has me down to 10 mgs lexapro for 1 week then stop it completely.
my concers are. i know nothing about this med.

I'm not familiar with the drug Pristiq. I'm assuming it was your doctor who
prescribed Pristiq for you. If it's not working for you, only your doctor can
help you wean off this drug safely. As with any drug prescribed by a doctor,
it is essential that you not stop this drug by yourself . That can be very
dangerous. My best advice is to go back to your famly doctor. Tell him
or her that you feel Pristiq is not working for you.
They just altered the structure some in order to get a new patent and hopefully to have fewer side effects, but over time that usually turns out not to be the case. I ask because if the effexor was working Pristiq is pretty similar, so why switch? If it stopped working, Pristiq might not work either as it's such a similar drug by the same manufacturer. Perhaps it was to reduce side effects?
Effexor makes it even worse. So the doctor changed me to Pristiq and said side effects will not be as bad as with Effexor. After taking it for 1 month I kept eating and gaining weight. And my menstrual cycle went crazy (one and a half months thinking I started an early menopause!). So I panicked and stopped Pristiq, but next day felt the horrible withdrawal effects (dizziness and nausea that kept me in bed). Next day I started taking 80 mg Prozac and withdrawal effects diminished.
Both meds can be very stimulating, take a few weeks to take effect, but can have side effects immediately. Pristiq can be very hard to stop taking if taken for awhile. Don't self-medicate. If it's an emergency, go to the ER. If it's not, it will pass. If you're not having fun, do something fun. There is no "supposed to be" in emotional life, there just is.
All of these drugs come with many side effects -- some suffer more, some less, but all drugs have side effects. They are very powerful and alter the way the body functions naturally, so naturally they throw some things out of balance. How much depends on the person. General docs just don't know this stuff that well as they don't receive specialized training in it.
