Pristiq and liver

Common Questions and Answers about Pristiq and liver

Avatar f tn I am just curious to hear about any personal experiences you may have had with Pristiq <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and/or ckground-color: #dae8f4'>effexor. My doctor has been favoring Pristiq but with no real valid reasons why ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and when I researched the two, based on clinical findings, I'm not sure that Pristiq is really better than ckground-color: #dae8f4'>effexor. Thoughts?
Avatar m tn I've read the side effects ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and dangers for both, but am uncertain which one to go with. Pristiq seems like it's very similar to ckground-color: #dae8f4'>effexor, so would it have the same sexual side effects? <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and cymbalta seems great until you read the part where your liver can explode if you drink alcohol (I rarely drink), plus it has also been used to treat chronic pain, which I do have. So, has anyone taken either or both? ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and which one has worked better for you?
Avatar m tn bottom all day long, bloating, some soft stools, anxiety. I was on Remeron since the first week of September <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and dropped it because my Liver Function tests came back high. I was also taking a whole bunch of supplements at the time ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and don't know what caused the high numbers so I dropped every pill. I am 25 year old male, 5'10, 145 lbs, I have delayed Gastric Emptying (as seen on a Gastric Emptying Study) ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and struggle to NOT lose weight, I actually want to gain weight.
Avatar f tn From what I have read <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and heard from almost every doctor most antidepressants are safe for the liver. There are noted dose changes for people with liver disease on some of the drugs but overall they are safe. However anyone can react to a drug diffrent than others have, so a follow up blood test is always recommended. I do however know of one drug, cymbalta, has been flaged by the FDA as not safe for anyone with liver disease.
Avatar f tn The SGPT <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and SGOT levels are elevated in liver disorders. Besides this they are also elevated in conditions like muscle injury ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and sometimes due to medications. GTT (gamma glutamyl transpeptidase) is often elevated in those who use alcohol. But it is also elevated due to liver-toxic substances like paracetamol. It's likely that the medications you are using could have caused this elevation. Please re check these values to study their progression. Hope this helped ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn What your doc has seen is the new info on cymbalta that came out when the manufacturer applied for an additional approval for fibromyalgia ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and other pain sufferers ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and the FDA committee discovered at least a dozen liver deaths from cybalta. But Pristiq, which is the new <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and improved ckground-color: #dae8f4'>effexor, might have the same not yet revealed problem. In the old days, when tricyclics were the rage, everyone on them had to get their liver enzymes checked regularly. Most meds are liver toxic to an extent.
Avatar n tn ) The other antidepressant my liver doc approved was ckground-color: #dae8f4'>effexor because it helps with depression <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and anxiety <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and has a short life, <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and Xanax. I was under the impression most liver docs will work with you re suggesting antidepressants ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and even have liver-friendly psychiatrists they routinely refer to. Of course this would be typical in a large city setting (I'm in a Houston). Not loosing weight, drinking plenty of water ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and following a healthy diet are also essential.

Avatar m tn x 2, milk thistle 1000 mg x 2, probiotic Acidophilus 10 mg x 2, selenium 200 mcg x 2, melatonin 3 mg once a day,pristiq 50 mg once a day, <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and mens formula 1@day x 2.
Avatar f tn Did he have these night time problems before the addition of Prozac? I am guessing he did not for the reason given below. Get him off the Prozac (but do so slowly). The Prozac blocks the liver pathways for the stim meds ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and will make things worse. This is a quote from Dr. charles Parker. I will private message you the site as I can't post it here.
Avatar f tn BUT-one side effect of ckground-color: #dae8f4'>effexor can be ckground-color: #dae8f4'>hepatitis B ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and even liver failure. Pristiq is not metabolized by the liver. People with the 'missing enzyme' might do better on Pristiq than ckground-color: #dae8f4'>effexor. It goes straight to the blood stream so it may be used to treat major depression more quickly. Pristiq is less likely to have as many drug to drug interactions as ckground-color: #dae8f4'>effexor does. Pristiq has more affect on the seratonin system than ckground-color: #dae8f4'>effexor does.
Avatar m tn I have also dealt with anxiety <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and depression my whole life <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and am on 50mg Pristiq as well. Basically Efexxor but has a different pharmacology. When I got sober ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and was about 45 days clean I went into a deep clinical depression. I've always had "depression" but this was the first time I had it like this. It was the stimulant ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and ADHD diagnosis that saved me from this. Best of luck to you!!! Stay strong.
Avatar n tn I was on 300mg of inderal (bata blocker) but have since stopped since that is a high dose for a person of a 100 pounds ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and my kidney <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and liver functions started to suffer. Plus these drugs are not pregnancy approved. I went to the OB to see if I could have a second child ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and I was stunned by the response....."adopt." The OB's reasoning was that I would be on bed rest ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and I was high risk the first time ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and deliveres 6 weeks early.
903604 tn?1274721174 e You know how ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and whe you became infected. If so <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and you are acute you can think of your liver as a normal liver rather than a ckground-color: #dae8f4'>hep c liver. It takes years for the liver to even begin to fibrose, although inflammation may start to creep in. Most of us lived with ckground-color: #dae8f4'>hep c for twenty years ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and didn't know,so take the doctors advice ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and take the medication. The liver is amazingly resilient,so concentrate on the DDD for now.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have been on ckground-color: #dae8f4'>effexor XR for 3 years <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and I have gained about 40-50pounds, most when my dose was increased to 225, now I am on 75mg b/c I'm getting ready to wean off the medicine in a couple of weeks,ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and I haven't lost anything yet. My eating habits have not changed ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and I exercise. I have always been underweight ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and I could eat whatever I wanted...I'm only 26 years old...I know my metabolism has changed some, but not enough to pack on 40 pounds.
Avatar m tn What was appealing about this guy was that he did genetic testing, serum testing, toxicology testing, transcranial magnetic stimulation <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and biofeedback. He wanted me to take Deplin <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and Pristiq. I opted not to take the Pristiq, but to take the Deplin. My decisions were based on discovering that people had a hard time coming off Pristiq. I also had high norepinephrine ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and wasn’t sure that was the best med. I opted to just take the Deplin.
Avatar n tn The dizziness resembled being carsick, with lightheadedness <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and occasional moments of nausea <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and feeling faint (but I never passed out). I had a cAT scan ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and blood work twice, ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and so far no diagnosis for the dizziness/fatigue. It got better for a few weeks but last week I began to have dizzy spells again, this time accompanied by maxillary sinus pressure. I had just switched allergy medications, from Nasonex to generic Flonase, right at the time my symptoms returned.
5093508 tn?1390547531 I'm trying to stay positive, but one minute I'm ok (sort of) then the next breath, I feel like ODing ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and be done with it all, but know that's not the answer, <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and might not even work <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and I could be left brain damaged, kidney failure, liver damage etc, so NO, of course I can't do anything like that. I don't want to, as I still have some hope left in me.
Avatar n tn hi, i was on ckground-color: #dae8f4'>effexor for 5 years <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and it does make you sweat alot, one of the many side effects of this med. i did'nt have the ammonia smell, that's something i've never heard of before. he should ask his dr. about this to find out what's going on. how is he doing otherwise on this med? is it helping his depression, is he having any other side effects? i hope you find out what's causing the ammonia smell. take care.
Avatar f tn My enzymes are still greatly elevated <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and the doctor will not put me on any meds because of my liver <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and I am experiencing withdrawal from 1, 2, or all of the meds-which I have been on for about 2 years now. I am also experiencing severe panic attacks-at least 6-7 per day ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and my depression is getting to the point of me not even wanting to leave my house. I am also having suicidal thoughts ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and have had 6 suicide attempts since I was diagnosed almost 7 years ago.
997735 tn?1250019778 The ER doctors were baffled as to the cause of my pain <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and so was I. They did so many tests <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and what came back that was ALARMING was that my liver enzymes were TWENTY TIMES HIGHER than the highest NORMAL count. They took me off everything, except morphine for my pain, admitted me, which turned into a 4-night ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and day hospital stay until they could levelize my liver enzymes. That is when my doctor switched me to Pristiq. He's testing me every three months ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and so far, so good.
Avatar n tn I am 23 years old ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and since I was roughly 12, I have taken various SSRI medications, including Paxil, Zoloft, cylexa, <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and most recently, Pristiq. In conjunction, I have taken Xanax or Ativan. Each time I would take a medicine for a few months, I would begin to notice that it no longer seemed to "help", resulting in multiple switches/changes recommended by Psychs. Most recently, I missed a few doses of Pristiq.
Avatar m tn I have tried many multi-vitamins in the past <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and always find that something within them makes my stomach upset. Not sure if it is the iron or zinc but when i take the vitamins like B,c, D ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and Omegas I feel ok.
Avatar m tn My son,21, had mild chest pain ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and some numbness on left side, Went to Emergency room <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and Dr said troponin level 25. Said he had a heart attack. Did Echo, EcK <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and heart catherizations <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and they all came back normal. Troponin kept going up to 62 then 70 then 130 before started to go down. He did not have any shortness of breath. All three EcG are normal. consulted with 4 other cardiologists ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and no one had a reason other than maybe this or that. He is on Pristiq antipressent.
Avatar f tn He prescribed me mddxr 100 mg (desvesflaxine) known as pristiq in many countries <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and etilaam (20mg) for sos use .. So now my final question is i amsuffering will i ever be normal again will i feel better its been 15 days taking the medication till now there is no change as such ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and one more thing once the depression is cleared can i live a normal life having anxiety ... Will these symptoms subside or they will stay through out my life ... Thanks regards ik ..
Avatar f tn I did the same thing today in passing a roundish yellow pea-sized one. I take Bupropion (generic for Wellbutrin), which is white. It looked exactly the same -- only yellow. cannot figure out if my body simply did not digest it. Also have done liver & gallbladder cleanse in the past -- where I have passed yellow ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and green stones that are similar to this. However, they were not the exact shape of the Buproprion.
Avatar f tn Prior to me finding out my about my liver I was on klonopin 2mg twice a day for panic attacks, geodon 80mg at bedtime, <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>and pristiq 100mg in the morning. When I went into the hospital for my liver problems the doctors immediately took me off all medications I was on. Now I am experiencing withdrawal symptoms from one, two, or all of the medications-I can't be sure ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and am having severe panic attacks 6-7 a day, I am feeling very depressed ckground-color: #dae8f4'>and am unable to sleep.
