Pristiq and generalized anxiety disorder

Common Questions and Answers about Pristiq and generalized anxiety disorder

pristiq

I am taking 50mg pristiq for generalized anxiety disorder brought on by my graves disease. I have notice i am becoming more combative with friends and family. I am bothered by the slightlest things and I am getting aggressive? is this due to the medication?
I wish I was one of the lucky ones that the symptoms just went away after I stopped the meds but I'm afraid the medication may have also triggered a genetic predisposition. I've seen numerous doctors and the lastest one was a movement disorder specialist who referred me to another (more experienced movement disorder specialist) in Houston, TX. Any ideas that might be beneficial for me?

Hi everyone, I'd just like to introduce myself, my name is Alex, and I'm 21, and I have had Severe Generalized Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, and for the last few years, I have been having a generalized restlessness and general feeling of discomfort.
I know some peoples who get ride of their anxiety with only therapy and sometimes just with their self power... Sometimes anxiety disorder appear and dissepear fast and never show up again... Well, another thing, I continue to do Therapy even if it's not very helpfull, all of this because I want to learn more tricks to stop the anxiety and try again to change my bad behaviors... I never stop even if I feel that therapy will maybe never work for me... In 3 years I had 4 different therapies...
Similar to yourself, I too have anxiety without Depression. I was also given Lorazapam and take it as needed, mostly to sleep though. BUT...I was also prescribed Lexapro, please keep in mind that some of these meds that are for depression are also prescribed to help with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. If you are just a "worrier" by nature, you could very well have GAD. I am on a VERY low does of Lexapro (10mg), and it helps with my daily nervousness.
(1) ADHD (Combined Type), (2) Generalized Anxiety Disorder and (3) R/O of Autism Disorder. Mind you, the doctor cannot test my son for Autism because the medical community in my area still follows the DSM-4 and the school system follows DSM-5, so they informed me to ask the school to test him in his 2nd semester. However, the doctor stated per the information provided, my son is high probability for high-functioning autism.
I was on ativan for 3+ years and was very dependent on it but managed to wean off it slowly and without any issues. You anxiety and panic sounds very familiar. It is good that you are able to knock it down to a lower level.
Pristiq is approved for depression, but may also help with panic disorder and anxiety.
The MRI came back clear, and I was put on Pristiq and Lamictal for panic disorder and bi-polar disorder. Well, this past October I discovered I was pregnant, and was told by my OBGYN that it was recommended that I stopped taking my meds because of the uncertain affect they would have on the baby. So, around mid-November I stopped taking my meds. For a little while, I was okay. Recently, though, I began having overwhelming anxiety. I will wake up out of sleep nervous.
The best doctor to seek out for a thorough assessment and diagnosis is a psychiatrist. Other anxiety disorders are panic disorder, GAD (generalized anxiety disorder), social anxiety disorder (social phobia). SSRI stands for "Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor", which is a commonly prescribed antidepressant medication for anxiety. Examples of SSRI meds are Paxil, Zoloft, Prozac, Lexapro.
Klonopin has been off and on for about 10 yrs due to generalized anxiety disorder, panic attacks, and post traumatic stress syndrome. I don't believe in a pill for every problem, but I do believe in better living through modern chemistry :) That's why I want off the pain meds, because these others are going to be necessary indefinately.
I have generalized anxiety disorder and social anxiety disorder. The Lorezapam BARELY takes the edge off. I haven't left my house in over 2 yrs except to go to the doctor or to the store. My psychiatrist recently changed me to Lyrica since the Lorezapam is not working. I haven't started taking the Lyrica yet tho. New meds always worry me. Has anyone taken this for anxiety? If so, how well did it work for you?
Major Depressive Disorder Generalized Anxiety Disorder Social Anxiety Disorder Panic Disorder Duloxetine (Cymbalta) is indicated for the treatment of: Major Depressive Disorder Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathic Pain Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) Fibromyalgia (FM)
A fascinating research study was published today by Irving Kirsch of the University of Hull, questioning whether or not 4 popular antidepressants are any better than placebo, and found that they weren't any better. Here's the study: http://medicine.plosjournals.org/perlserv/?request=get-document&doi=10.1371/journal.pmed.
You have been on the Cymbalta for 2.5 weeks. I do not think you should be worrying about it failing at this point - so I would find a mantra to focus on that avoids worrying about med failure. When I was on anti-anx meds, I used to say "I am on a powerful med which will push me through any obstacles that arise" every time I had a fright. That is just my example. http://pi.lilly.com/us/cymbalta-pi.
I'm currently taking 2 anti-depressants, Wellbutrin SR, Pristiq 150 mg (both anti-depressants), Xanax 1 mg. 2x a day due to Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Norco (Hydrocodone 10/325, and Soma 250 mg. The Soma is prescribed 3x a day. I just read someone else's post and it described me to a T. That post was what inspired me to try and reach out, which is difficult because we here know all too well the stigma attached to people who use and abuse pain medication.
I have depression and generalized anxiety disorder. I was pretty much scared of everyday life. I was weirdly uncomfortable in my own skin...i over thought everything that it keep me from participating in my own life. I was tired of this ridiculous roller coaster ride, that only I was riding. I went to my doctors and was put on effexor, gradually worked up to 150mg a day.
Also, if you read about the different SSRIs and SNRIs Effexor and Paxil both are actually recommended for multiple anxiety disorders such as Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety, and Panic Disorder.
I do suffer from generalized anxiety disorder, and yes, I am concerned that Naltrexone will make it worse. Especially in the 50mg dose that was prescribed for me. Anxiety is a common side effect in addicts treated with theh 50mg dose. However, I've decided not to even try and take the full 50mg dose. Instead I'm going to start out at 3mg in the pm before bed. MS patients use 3 - 4 .
I have been taking Xanax XR for many years, and will be starting Klonipin shortly for my generalized anxiety disorder. In all of your posts, you've talked about Xanax, but not Xanax XR. Xanax XR is the slow release form of the drug, and differs for regular Xanax. The reason I'm switching to Klonipin is that I feel that Xanax XR is not working well anymore for me. I take Effexor XR for depression and anxiety, and I also take Lyrica for headaches and anxiety as well.
I have been on & off treatment for PMS (since age 15) and Depression/Major Depression and Generalized Anxiety Disorder and ADD from ??? til now..2007 was diagnosed Bipolar II-- Hypo-mania/mixed episodes and deep, deep depressive episodes, since then, add in OCD & PTSD ..... I use the online MEDHELP.ORG site for journaling, trackers & such, as well as handwritten journals, notes in my day planner, etc. I take my meds very regularly...
My question is, are there are any medications available to help treat severe depression, social anxiety disorder, and PMDD that DO NOT have these side effects? I don't want to get to the point of gaining 40+ pounds before I do anything about this because I'm one of those people that will get a lot more depressed/out of control if I feel fat and horrible.
I do have severe arthitis pain and am a 51 year old woman. I have to cut down and recently cut down to 10 a day and have experienced physical and emotional withdrawal symptoms. I have some clonidine and don't know how much to take for withdrawal. What is the recommended dosage. My goal is to eventually cut down to 4 a day, but have been very uncomfortable at 10. I also take effexor and trazadone for depression, but I am so depressed right now.
I was on the meds for over year before this started. Also due to my other medical problems I am under a lot of stress and anxiety, this could also be causing it. The Dr's have been no help with the itching, they have no idea what it is, they just say "Well then dont go tanning", but I really dont want to have to give that up as well as everything else I had to stop due to my auto immune disease (Ulcerative Colitis).
