Common Questions and Answers about Prilosec ulcer treatment

prilosec

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with a duodenal ulcer, based off of symptoms, about 8 months ago. I completed my antibiotics and have been taking Prilosec since. The pain is slightly better...less intense gnawing pain and my stomach is less tender to the touch. But I'm still having GERD symptoms - burning abdomen, stomach tender to the touch when poked, acid reflux, lump in throat, burning up back of throat, excessive belching and gas..
Avatar n tn I had an ulcer about 2 years ago and was treated for it.. I took 2 types of antibiotics along with Prilosec. After this the gnawing pain that i felt below my ribcage was gone but i was left with constipation, bloating, gas, and just total stomach chaos. I have been trying to relieve these symptoms by using every single thing almost that is over the counter.Nothing seems to work.. I went to the doctor and discussed my symptoms and she simply advised me to change my diet..
Avatar f tn and a proton pump inhibitor prilosec . I took it for 4 days and had horrible vomiting and diarrhea and stopped the treatment . now I am on prilosec which doesn't make it worse it blocks the acid in your stomach which h pylori thrives in acidic environments ..
Avatar n tn The only medication I've been taking for the ulcer is Prilosec. I've been taking Exforge 10mg for high blood pressure for 4 years and have not had a problem with constipation. The constipation and soft stools started before the Ulcer diagnoses and Prilosec. I recently had a CT scan and was told I have spots on my liver. I'm wondering if this could be a cause.
Avatar n tn I have a severe Peptic Ulcer that causes the worst pain imaginable. What I imagine a bullet in the tummy would feel like. I have this on a chronic level. Every night about an hour or 2 after I lay down to sleep without fail. The pain is so bad I have had to sleep sitting up or just gone without sleep and have had desperate thoughts of suicide. I am stuck in a rut. I do not have insurance. I live in Southern California. I do not have a regular Dr. and I am new to the area in which I live.
Avatar m tn I developed mouth ulcer 30 yeas ago. I had them everyday for years. Then had upper GI done. They found my sphincter doesn't close all the way. Treat was Prilosec (omeprisole) for 14 day and swish with Maalox to heal. That has work up until about a month or so ago. Now they are in my throat and the said treatment doesn't seem as affected. I view it as I caught a virus and is activate when you have a gastric episode. I had an EMT look at my throat. He said he saw healing and no concerns.
Avatar m tn I started Prilosec for duodenal ulcer (diagnosed during Endoscopy) 5 weeks ago. During this time I also had labwork for annual physical done which included urine microalbumin test. The ratio came out higher than normal at 32 after the first week of Prilosec. I repeated that test 3 weeks later and the ratio came out even higher at 74. Now I am worried and trying to understand if the Prilosec caused it. The blood pressure is also higher especially the systolic at 140 to 150.

Avatar f tn The emergency room doctor thought it was a mild case of pancreatitis but my family doctor believes it’s an ulcer. I’ve been taking 40 mg of Prilosec as well as sucralfate. I’ve also been having some weight loss. I had a CT scan and everything came back normal as well as an ultrasound. Bloodwork looks good except for that Lipase panel. Trying to get into see a gastrologist but because of the coronavirus and not able to. Any ideas what’s going on?
Avatar m tn I am getting desperate Would any of these tests pick up an ulcer if it were this? Could this be cancer? A missed blocked kidney stone? The Er Drs said follow up with my primary care but im afraid it may be too late by the time this is found !!!!
1364792 tn?1278051187 Omeprazole (INN) (pronounced /oʊˈmɛprəzoʊl/) is a proton pump inhibitor used in the treatment of dyspepsia, peptic ulcer disease (PUD), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD/GERD), laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It was first marketed in the US in 1989 by AstraZeneca under the brand names Losec and Prilosec, and is now also available from generic manufacturers under various brand names.
Avatar n tn It appears that maybe the lack of nicotine has caused some change in your stomach. Ten years ago, I developed a second ulcer, and I have taken one OTC Prilosec a day for 10 years with no problem. Why not try an experiment and take one Prilosec or Prevacid a day for 4 days to learn whether your heartburn has stopped? The stronger pill, Nexium, has just become available OTC and may deserve your consideration.
Avatar f tn I started having GERD/acid reflux symptoms that popped up out of nowhere one day, close to a year ago. I was diagnosed with a duodenal ulcer, based off of symptoms, about 8 months ago. Avatar m tn Yes H-Pylori can cause bad chest pain, the pain is coming from the esophigus, which is just to the left of the center of your chest, if you are certain you have H-Pylori, the pain is caused by excess stomach acid, you need to get treated as H-Pylori is a nasty bacteria, it lays dorment in most people and is held in check by your stomachs good bacteria, although when you take an Anti-biotic treatment for an infection, it kills off the good bacteria and H-Pylori takes over and if left untrated fo
963268 tn?1312900315 I had an ulcer caused by H. pylori, and I used an antibiotic three times a day for 10 days. I also took an acid reducer once a day that healed by stomach lining. Today, I take one Prilosec, 20-mg, and I have no pain. If you have gastritis and are not taken medication specifically for gastritis, your stomach lining can become worst, and you might develop an ulcer. If I were you, I would require your doctor, not his office staff, to confirm whether or not you have/had an ulcer caused by H.
Avatar f tn Prilosec and Nexium is for heartburn. Prilosec is taken over a 14 day period and can only be taken every 4 months. Not sure about dosing for Nexium but Prilosec is often prescribed because it is over the counter.
Avatar m tn probably not an ulcer, id go with GERD or a Hiatal Hernia first, a peptic ulcer or deudenous ulcer would present with more pain and there would probably be blood in your vomit and stool, id go to the doc to get it checked out, id start taking Prilosec OTC for two weeks to see if its just reccuring GERD, i mean the symptoms you described sounds exactly like GERD
264121 tn?1313029456 On the ulcer, there is a simple blood test that will confirm if the ulcer is caused by h. pylori (heliobactr). If it is, the treatment course is pretty simple and usually effective. A round (or 2) of antibiotics with an acid blocker. After than you may want to continue the acid blocker or not. I had one about 10 years ago and have never had subsequent problems except when taking medicatioins that upset the stoache or cause bleeding (aspirin, NSAIDS, etc.).
Avatar m tn It was decided that I probably had an inflamed stomach lining or an ulcer. While there they took blood to test for electrolytes, lyme disease, and thyroid function, I haven't heard the lab results from that so I assume normal. Was put on a prescription prilosec, and to give it 3 weeks.
Avatar m tn I went back to my doctor and he told me that I could have an ulcer, so he gave me some prilosec that I am about to take for the first time on monday, I am waiting because I just started some other medication a couple of days ago and I do not want to overload my body. Does this sound like an ulcer? I am also dealing with constipation and am currently taking Miralax twice a day to go in the morning.
Avatar f tn In reviewing my medical records from my gastroenterologist it seems they keep bouncing between a diagnoses of "non ulcer dyspepsia" and "peptic ulcer disease". The non ulcer dyspepsia is a fancy term for ulcer like stomach pain without an ulcer and no clear cause. Then I occasionally do show up with peptic ulcers, which I thought were from accidentally taking a migraine medication that had aspirin in it...but I've never been checked for the pylori bacteria.
