ve heard of heatburn bounce when it comes back very bad (for a while) then gets better. Prilosec is available by prescription at 10mg which might be enough. As advertised, Prilosec can take 4 days to work because it is very slow acting, therefore, another alternative is to take OTC 20mg every other day. If recommended by a Dr., Prilosec can be safely taken for years.
What are other strong treatment for GERD aside from taking esomeprazole and domperidone? Because I have been taken it for almost a year now and I tried to change my diet but still it come and goes.
The four hour before or after applies only to antacids like tums or Rolaids etc not Prilosec. Prilosec is not an antacid it is a proton pump inhibitor called Omeprazole.
My doctor advised me if at all possible to not take Prilosec so if I can't sleep due to heartburn I take a Tums which by then is 9 hours after I took Harvoni. I have a hiatal hernia and GERD so believe me I miss Prilosec.
Most knowledgeable hepatologists prescribe proton pump inhibitor (PPI) drugs like Nexium or Prilosec. Both are generally considered liver friendly; omeprazole is available generically if cost is an issue.
I've been concerned about this too. I've been taking old fashioned Tumms type ant-acids only when absolutely needed. Don't eat before bedtime. Good luck. It's great to see everyone getting Harvoni.
Is it okay to take Prilosec? They said Zantac was okay, but not to take Prevacid. I bought Prilosec and want your opinions on it.
I have been having some GI issues for almost 2 months now and was first diagnosed with Gastritis. For the Gastritis I was given 15 days worth of Prilosec. While on the Prilosec (and before) I had diarrhea and loose stools every day. Being as I was having that before, I never attributed it to the Prilosec but now I'm questioning whether or not the Prilosec contributed to the loose bowel movements as I am now back on Prilosec and am having loose stools once again.
pylori and now developed GERD and Acid Reflux because of the long term use of prilosec.. I cannot stop taking the prilosec because the acid and chest pain come back times a million, and i cant eat really anything anymore.. I did not have any problems with acid or chest pains or not being able to eat until i started taking the prilosec.. I really think that if i wasnt having any symptoms then why give someone some for symptoms there not having, just to make them worse in the end..

i am 6 months post treatment and still have gastrointestinal problems that i didn't have before the treatment. i.e. fat intolerance, diarrhea, gas. has anyone else experienced this so far post treatment? and what do you do?

I completed my antibiotics and have been taking Prilosec since. The pain is slightly better...less intense gnawing pain and my stomach is less tender to the touch. But I'm still having GERD symptoms - burning abdomen, stomach tender to the touch when poked, acid reflux, lump in throat, burning up back of throat, excessive belching and gas..I've also had diarrhea since the symptoms started almost a year ago.
I'm worrying that it's gastric cancer.
I have been taken Prilosec, 20 mg( and like medication),once a day for 15 years. Different brands of Prilosec-like medication has always tamed my once-ulcer. I take one Prilosec a day just to make sure I have no acid build-up. I do not drink daily, but I have not noticed any problem with my stomach if I drink. Check-it-out!
I have constant GERD. I have been treated with Prilosec for 8 years, and the amount has had to be increased several times over the years. I am now taking 40 mg of Prilosec in the morning and 40 mg Prilosec in the evening. This has not been helping me, so I am now also taking Zantac 150 mg h.s. in addition to the 40 mg of Prilosec b.i.d. The head of my bed is on 2 x 4s to keep it elevated, and I sleep on 3 pillows at night.
This can occur even without symptoms of heartburn. I would recommend empiric treatment with an over-the-counter antacids such as Prilosec or Zantac. If you have not had laryngoscopy by an ENT, this would also be helpful in such an evaluation.
