I have actually been on some form of reflux med for a bit longer than 5yrs and started with Prilosec OTC, then prescription Prilosec, Nexium, Aciphex, and briefly Prevacid. These days I tend to take whatever I have in my medicine cabinet (Aciphex or Prevacid) twice a day, max dosage, and occasionally a tagamet to help out. I have a hiatial hernia that is going to be fixed soon so I am hoping to get off the meds and that the side effects will eventually go away...I hope.
I have had different sysmptons for months mostly throat burning and mid sternum pain alternating with soreness. I was put on prilosec with no difference then zantac 300 mg and now nexium. The zantac showed improvement. Then went to a gastro and he changed me to 40 mg Nexium with marked improvement. I had an ultrasound, hyda scan both normal. I then had an endoscopy that showed stomach was irritated and and a raw spot in my esophagus. It appeared to be healing.
I take my Omeprazole like a good boy daily around 7am before breakfast, but by midmorning the burning has reared its ugly head and Gaviscon and a Tagamet to temper the burning. I have also begun taking another 40mg Omeprazole at night to deal with any nighttime discomfort. I realize I am playing doctor by upping and adding to my current regimen but that is all know.
sometimes my pain is so bad I resort to the Motrin and take it with tagamet or prilosec. I have had Hep C for 32 years.....Needle stick in nursing school...bummmmmmmer before they even diagnosed me. ("Non A Non B") Any way....I did a year of tx and 50 grand later it came back... I did have insurance for part of it though..70% of 50 grand I guess that I am venting . So if anyone has any ideas......Broke 4 ribs and twisted my spine.
I have had gastro problems for 30+ years. I am pre tagamet. So I have been through
several meds. Nexium does work for me (40mg) I started taking it when it came
on the market. I am scoped yearly. My doctor just removed 25 polyps from my
stomach and 3 from my intestins. I had more polpys in my stomach which will
be removed later. Could nexium be partly the cause for so many polyps?

I am taking tagamet otc- Walmart generic brand and for me it is better than the rx ones- But that's just me....
Do you take anything like Tagamet or Prilosec over the counter? there is also simple things like tums and rolaids ot help with the acid.
I would consider going to the doctor. I do tend to doubt you are pregnant due to the negative pregnancy test but it is worth making sure about.
By the way, morning sickness that you hear about usually starts at around 6 to 7 weeks into the pregnancy on average. For most women, it is like just nausea--- like sick to the stomach feeling.
It could be described as a slow constant leakage that increases as I get more nervous. I would eventually be diagnosed with an ulcer. I was prescribed Tagamet and after about 6 weeks the problem went away. Once they took me off Tagamet the trouble returned. That was back in 83 and it has altered my entire existence. s just a generalized mild tightness in my chest but usually located directly under sternum..Have taken Prilosec in the past but usually takes a while to work and read where it's not advisable to dry up ALL one's stomach acid . Intread I take probiotics each day after having C Diff 3 years ago and that's under control.This is incapacitating me with fear ...Help! Is it true that if you take 2 Tagamet HB200 pills, it will help lenghten the time methadone stays in you so your not so sick in the a.m. when detoxing? It is suppose to slow the metabolism of the liver, keeping methadone in your system longer, not stronger.
I have been managing GERD for the past 20 years through medication such a Tagamet, Prilosec, Prevacid and now Nexium. I had a gastric endoscopy (UGI) performed 10 years ago and showed no sign of abnormalities. My blood pressure is has been high averaging 150/100 and the doctor recently put me on Lisinopril 5 mg. Within the last 4 to 5 months I have gained approximately 40 lbs and have no energy or motivation to do anything about it.
My sympathy to your sister! I had a similar experience 25 years ago that was finally diagnosed as a hiatal hernia/duedonuem ulcer. And, the trigger was not bacteria but an allergy to milk protein (casein/casinate). (See the no-dairy web page for avoiding these widely used food additatives. They even "wash" tuna to make it "whiter" with milk protein.) I went from 60 pills (Zantac) a month to zero once I cut out the milk protein.
my mom has had a hiatal hernia, barrets esphagus, and been on medicine Like prevacid,tagamet,prilosec, and others for 20 years or more. she had a nissen fundoplication 2 1/2 years ago. She is in worse pain since the surgery. She is only 54 years old . she went back to the surgeon and they did a cat scan and said it was normal. She says she can barley eat anything without having pain what should she do? and what test can be done so she knows what to do to stop the pain in her chest in back .
are there any meds to take that would allow me to take antidepressants without causing pain. i currently take tagamet but is not helping much. when the pain is worse, i take belladona that sometimes helps. would nexium or pilosec help? i take 20mg of Prozac & 0.5mg of ativan daily.
Is it okay to take Prilosec? They said Zantac was okay, but not to take Prevacid. I bought Prilosec and want your opinions on it.
I have been having some GI issues for almost 2 months now and was first diagnosed with Gastritis. For the Gastritis I was given 15 days worth of Prilosec. While on the Prilosec (and before) I had diarrhea and loose stools every day. Being as I was having that before, I never attributed it to the Prilosec but now I'm questioning whether or not the Prilosec contributed to the loose bowel movements as I am now back on Prilosec and am having loose stools once again.
I was recently reading about Tagamet as I am tired of taking PPi's and decided to go back to Tagamet for my stomach problems.
I found that Tagamet can actually help with pain! You might try some before going back to the doctor.
Is the pain on both sides or only one side? Is it possible that you have shingles? Some people don't get the "pimples/sores" with shingles. Your pain certainly sounds like Shingles.
In the past I have been on nexium and that worked ok (my prescription ran out). Prilosec did not work as well for or maybe my condition had gotten worse by the time I tried it. I occasionally take cimetidine or tagamet when it is really bad (which seems like all the time now). I have cut back on my meal size and am eating healthier now b/c I can't take this reflux anymore.
