Hi...if u r refluxing acids into ur mouth u will feel a burning sensation. This is not good as it can affect the enamel on ur teeth. U may have an allergy to a compound in the prilosec which is a PPI, ask ur pharmacist if H2 blockers make work better......not sure what is in the prilosec u may be allergic to.

However, I did see your post on the Prilosec and this confuses me. I have chronic dry mouth/throat and a feeling of something stuck in my throat. Several docs later, all ENT docs always want to give you meds for GERD, which I don't have. I also have Osteo. When I was on Nexium for 4-5 mos straight, I developed severe muscle pain and a fractured rib. Saw an endo doc and she told me to not take the Nexium or Omeprazole (Prilosec) due to the possible side effects.

I have been on reflux meds for the past 5yrs and have had numerous side effects from hyperhydrosis, a tremor in my hand (which I was on propranolol for about 1yr 9mths for), and most recently a tic has developed in my eyelids. The hydrosis has finally went away (4.5yrs later) and the hand tremor is minimal but my eyelids are going nuts. I am assuming its the drugs for reflux (I am having surgery for that soon). Does anyone know of anything else that would be causing this?

There can be side-effects with the use of PPIs - no drug is without side-effects unfortunately. They can include changes to bone density - more ease of fracture - and anemic states due to loss of B12 uptake. Changes in bowel habits and loose stools can be a result of the use of PPIs. If you cut down on acid, you cut down on the amount of food that's thoroughly digested and able to be absorbed. Those materials will cause changes in the output of the digestive system in a number of ways.

I was taking Omeprazole for acid reflux. I was recently going on eight weeks of taking it. I too WAS suffering from dry mouth and tongue and a severe burning sensation in my throat that was getting worse. I feared the worst, waking up with severe dry mouth, panic attacks as to what was happening. I couldnt even make a drop of saliva. I stopped taking the omeprazole last night. For the first time in weeks i slept like a baby.

Does anyone know if dry mouth is a side effect of melatonin supplements. If so how long would this side effect last after discontinuation?

Reading these posts, I agree that the dry mouth is a real big one, I HAD to have a bottle of water at all times! Brain fog... yes. Dry skin... yes, I was so lucky to have a loving husband who applied lotion along with a head to toe body massage almost every night after things started getting to the point where I was too sick to do much of anything. He was the reason I di get through the treatments!

Rinse mouth with Biotene dry mouth rinse. It works quite well.

I recently had Turbinate reduction (August 14th), I have a cold head al the time, too much air flow and the worst problem is the dry mouth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a really hard time swallowing and eating!! The dry mouth wakes me up at night and then I can't get back to sleep! I've a very important job and MUST GET SLEEP!!! How do I stop the Dry Mouth????????????????

I've been taking Nexium 40 mg. for about 4 years with no side effects. I was recently switched by my doctor to the generic brand Esomprazole Magnesium & have a very dry mouth. Is it possible it is from the generic med?

Hi selmaS, Well, I have been eating a non fat vegan diet for a year but only went on Topamax about 6 months ago and have had quite a number of side effects (off balance, dry mouth, bad memory, cough, Only the two weeks have I had this type of symptom and I have eaten the food for at least the last year and have had much hotter food and it didn't bother me a bit. I can't take Prilosec so I was told to take Zantac when I need it. Do you take that before a meal?

I know Abilify like all antipsychotics can cause anti-cholinergic side effects (although less so then other antipsychotics) which include dry mouth and urinary retention. Sometimes some of the side effect pills used to treat the motor restlessness from it such as the anti-cholinergics (Cogentin, Artane, etc.) can make that worse. That might be one cause but generally its not so severe. Your psychiatrist should be able to explain what happened though.

I did get that and I do not know if this was just the trial however I had an EKG done as well, several in fact during the course of the trial. Also, as OH said, for dry mouth Biotene has some very good products as a dry mouth is more prone to cavities, etc.

I would say his side effects since finishing incivek include itching (no rash), fatigue, some weakness/shortness of breath, fatigue, dry mouth/metallic taste in mouth, and insomnia. I think that the symptoms he is experiencing right now (post incivek) are very similar/identical to the side effects he had with previous two treatments. For the itching, he takes Atavan. For the insomnia, he takes Ambien. For dry mouth, he uses Biotene products.

If so can you tell me if you are having side effects from them? I currently take one 20mg Prilosec tablet and they seem to make me dizzy and light headed. I also notice pain in my lower abdomin.

The side effects I have are anxiety, dizzyand , dry mouth My doctor told me to take xanax with it until the side effects go away. Any idea when that will be??? I keep trying to take wellbutrin alone to see if the side effects are going away, but I usually end up taking the xanax a few hours in because I just can't handle al the jittering and other side effects I am getting. Should I hang in there a little longer of stop taking it?

I'm new to this forum and was wondering if someone might be able to tell me if abdominal pain, constipation and gas are side effects of PPI's. My neighbor is a doctor and prescribed me prevacid, I took them for 2 weeks, and began to notice these problems. I told him this and his response was "Prevacid does not have those side efffects." but when I search "Prevacid side effects" these symptoms show up on every page. ANy direction woudl be appreciated.

I am also experiencing sores and problems in my mouth. The doctor says that this is also a side effect to the medicine. I will do what I have to do to make it through the end, but I just would like to know if there are others in my area that may go to HepC meetings, if they even exist. My family, friends, and boyfriend are 100% with me but unfortunately it is so hard for me to explain to them what I am going through, physically and emotionally.

I also developed pretty pronounced dry mouth, and was also having a problem with slurring my words more. I initially was scared that it was an exacerbation but then realized the sx came on the morning after starting the drug. I gave it 5 days to see if any of this improved. None of it did, and the dry mouth got steadily worse. So, I stopped it, and by the second day, the leg weakness/pain, dry mouth, slurred speech, were all pretty much gone.

There are a lot of side-effects when PPIs are taken. Constipation and diarrhea can be two of them.
