I'm new to this forum and was wondering if someone might be able to tell me if abdominal pain, constipation and gas are side effects of PPI's. My neighbor is a doctor and prescribed me prevacid, I took them for 2 weeks, and began to notice these problems. I told him this and his response was "Prevacid does not have those side efffects." but when I search "Prevacid side effects" these symptoms show up on every page. ANy direction woudl be appreciated.

Hi i am on 40mg of Omeprazole for acid reflux. Has anyone here had side effects from it like loose stools? For the past two weeks or so my bowel movements have been rather odd...loose in the morning but ok towards the end of the day...no blood, but causing soreness around my anus afterwards....

There are a lot of side-effects when PPIs are taken. Constipation and diarrhea can be two of them.

Has anyone else had these side effects from Lex? Anyone been on Lex for awile with no side effects, only to have them develop later? Don't side effects happen in the beginning only?

I understand that we all can experience different side effects to certain meds but was hoping someone could tell me what, if any, side effects they experienced while taking Prilosec or Zegerid. Both meds are basically Omeprazole. I also noticed that, in my opinion, my doctor had me on WAY TOO MUCH. I was prescribed 40mg twice a day..EVERY DAY! I've seen that the most common script is written for 20mg a day for two weeks.

I finally decided to go see my doctor as the symptoms were getting worse, mostly the coughing. The coughing got so bad that I would have trouble breathing. I was coughing up so much chunky mucus that I thought I was coughing up parts of my lungs. My doctor saw me & told me that there was no infection but he gave me an antibiotic & cough medicine to help get me better, he was thinking a sinus infection.

I have taken prednisone many other times, with no adverse side effects. I went to the doctor yesterday with the following symptomps; even though I knew that I was getting enough air, I felt that I could not get a good breath and my throat felt very tight and jaw just clenched open while I was gasping for breath. I also felt very anxious. I never experienced this before. Boy it was scary.

Saw an endo doc and she told me to not take the Nexium or Omeprazole (Prilosec) due to the possible side effects. Called my doc the other day because I have had stomach pain and feeling of nausea. He tells me to take the Omeprazole!!! Next day, no better so asked the pharmacist if I could take it 3 times a day instead of twice. He told me I was already on twice the dose and should only be taking it once a day (20 mg).

I have been on reflux meds for the past 5yrs and have had numerous side effects from hyperhydrosis, a tremor in my hand (which I was on propranolol for about 1yr 9mths for), and most recently a tic has developed in my eyelids. The hydrosis has finally went away (4.5yrs later) and the hand tremor is minimal but my eyelids are going nuts. I am assuming its the drugs for reflux (I am having surgery for that soon). Does anyone know of anything else that would be causing this?

m not really sure of the side effects of Omeprazole (Prilosec). But I do know you might be able to find some info on it in the Health Pages Tab. Were you tested for Thyroid problems? And I'm not talking about them just pulling a TSH value on you. You would need FreeT3 and FreeT4 values for it to be sufficient info to see if you have a Thyroid issue. The fatigue, light headedness, nausea, and heart burn/ GERD are all symptoms of Thyroid issues.

Until two days ago, I had been taking Prilosec OTC, 40 mgs. daily. I'm now taking the generic Omeprazole capsules, prescription. I switched to the generic version because it's covered by my insurance and it's a lot cheaper. I was told both meds were the same. However, after taking the generic Omep. capsules, I got bad side effects. I've never had any side effects from the Prilosec OTC. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed a significant difference in the two.

I was prescribed Prilosec and took it for six weeks until I couldn't take it any longer. Too many side effects for me.
