Prilosec rebound effect

Common Questions and Answers about Prilosec rebound effect

prilosec

Avatar n tn Call the doc's office and get a refill. Then when you're stabilized, come off very, very slowly. Coming off of PPIs all at once will cause a rebound effect in many people. If you've been on Nexium for years, you should probably think of coming off of the med over a period of many months. Don't try to do it in a short period of time.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with H Pylori back in 2003. I took the antibiotics and the pain cleared up. After that, my doctor put me on Nexium. Unfortunately, insurance wouldn't cover it so I switched to Prilosec. It seemed to do the trick so my doctor just told me to continue with it. Last year, he sent me for an upper endo to check to see if all was ok. Everything checked out good. Seemingly unrelated, back in 2006, I had my first panic attack. I couldn't pinpoint what caused it.
Avatar f tn HI..there r several things u can do to help him and if it works his problem may not be one that needs a dr...but if left go, reflux can do damage.... http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/list?cid=236 This link is to the Health Pages, please see them for tips on diet and lifestyle modifications....like elevating the head of the bed...not eating 3 to 4 hrs prior to lying down.....avoid dairy products b4 bed.... An OTC Med like pepcid can help if taken b4 eating the occasional spicy foods....
Avatar f tn there is a rebound effect to start with when you stop nexium. This was found in clinical trials when healthy people with no digestive problems developed acid reflux after stopping nexium. Osteoporosis can be reversed as well. I'll send you a few links to check out.
Avatar n tn I've been taking 40mg. of prilosec for 3 weeks. Now taking just 20mg. I want to stop taking it, how do I wean myself off? I've read you get a rebound reaction which is worse than the hearburn. I can't cut the pills in half because they are time release.
Avatar m tn I have decided to stop taking the aspirin, which I haven’t taken in about a week anyways. This “rebound effect” that can result in clotting due to suddenly stopping aspirin has got me a little worried. Is this a legitimate concern or am I worrying for no reason? I understand the negative effects of stopping aspirin are mostly in the 4 weeks or so after stopping due to platelets becoming “more sticky”. How long after stopping aspirin does the blood “normalize”?
Avatar f tn There are a lot of side-effects when PPIs are taken. Constipation and diarrhea can be two of them.
Avatar n tn I know that many of the B vitamins absorption level is affected by acid levels so what you suggest makes sense. I have often wondered what effect Prilosec had on the functions that need an acid environment. Stomach acid is there for a reason so when it is not being produced (due to Prilosec) something has to happen that wouldn't have otherwise.
Avatar m tn I have gone on and off PPI's (Prilosec and Prevacid a long time ago). When you cut back you get acid rebound. It's better to do it slowly if you can. I think Prevacid comes in 15mg but you need to ask your doctor as I'm not sure if the over the counter version is exactly the same as the prescription. You can also ask your doctor what else you can take to help with the acid rebound. Avoiding acidic foods also helps. Good luck!
Avatar m tn t work, then you can try something stronger like Prilosec. Keep in mind, Prilosec may come with a lot of side effects that can be just as bothersome as the GERD. I was prescribed Prilosec and took it for six weeks until I couldn't take it any longer. Too many side effects for me. It basically blocks acid from the stomach, and while it is effective at getting rid of heartburn, you may experience a rebound once you stop taking them.
Avatar f tn I think you probably had a bad reaction to the Zoloft -- it happens. But that's not the same as withdrawal. Hope you find something that helps. As for your digestive problems, those drugs you're taking aren't too good for long term use anyway, as they cause a rebound effect given that the stomach must fight against the suppression of acid whenever it needs to produce acid to digest protein.
Avatar f tn About 2 months ago I started taking Prilosec for reflux. I then began to have a huge increase in the number of PVC's. Sometimes lasting all day. I've been on an event monitor for the past 2 weeks. I didn't even think that to relate this increase in PVC's to the Prilosec until about a week ago. I stopped the Prilosec and lo and behold the PVC's are gone or at least back to the minimal occurance that they were before.
Avatar m tn The h pylori came back equivocal, so my doctor suggested that I just take Prilosec and see if that help the stomach irritation and excessive belching I was having. I was feeling a lot better until about day 10 of Priolsec when I drank some liquor. After I ended the Prilosec 14 days, my stomach issues and belching came right back. My doctor suggested I take a few more days of Prilosec and avoid alcohol for a while.
Avatar m tn t call off but once or twice a year if that i have a question i have been really healthy never had much breathing problems sense right before Easter when i had really bad acid reflex had a stuffy nose off on over the winter thought it was from dairy products or might have been a side effect from the otc prilosec i was taking because i stopped the dairy and stopped taking the otc prilosec not knowing that it would have a rebound effect acid kept coming up in my throat when i was sleeping would c
Avatar m tn My very excellent neurologist told me that Frova and Amerge are the ONLY triptans that do not cause the rebound effect as they have more of a half-life. The other triptans can then be used once a week. NO over the counter pain meds like Advil- those cause rebounds too. My neuro gave me Ultram, which is a better choice for chronic and frequent headaches.
Avatar n tn cid=236 And when ready to stop meds do so in a step down method or u suffer what is known as rebound...Prilosec is a PPI...proton pump inhibitor- it stops the pumps that produce stomach acids which r needed to break down foods...when u stop the meds the pumps turn back on full force.....so stopping slowly is key.
Avatar m tn Now I am worried and trying to understand if the Prilosec caused it. The blood pressure is also higher especially the systolic at 140 to 150. Is Prilosec known to have an effect directly on urine albumin or indirectly through blood pressure? I have read warnings about kidney disease being associated with the long term use of PPIs. I have to take Prilosec for another 3 weeks. Any insights or guidance will be appreciated.

Avatar m tn Vasoconstrictors that are in eye drops like Visine, Cleareyes, etc cause rebound effect. They are not safe for long term use. I've used Euphrasia (eyebright) before and it makes my eyes feel so fresh and also gets rid of redness. I've been doing research on this herb and I've read that it shrinks tissue. I want to get a doctor's thought on the long term use of this herb. This herb helps with my eye allergies and that is why I want to use it.
221122 tn?1323011265 Well, you guys know that my PVCs are back. I take fish oil and Cal/Mg. They were gone for so long that it was very nice.....mmmm. THEN they came back. Anyway, I noticed that it was about a week after I started taking Prilosec every day. Then I didn't take it for a day or two and they got a lot better. I took it again....back. Stopped...they calmed. Yesterday I didn't take it and I had a decent day. I am going to ride this one out.
Avatar f tn I was told do NOT take Prilosec With the new NS5A and NS5B drugs. it's been proven it has an adverse effect. I'm on the Sofosbuvir/5885 and Prilosec is on the Do Not take list. I usually take Zantac and asked if this was ok, and was told during my treatment Zantac was OK. I didn't question the difference but said OK no Prilosec. Anyone on the new Sofosbuvir told this same thing?
Avatar f tn The problem for the poster is that Zantac and all the other meds taken for this suppress stomach acid, which works for awhile, but eventually the stomach must make more acid in order to digest protein. This creates a rebound effect, which is good for the pharmaceutical industry because it means you have to keep taking the medication forever whereas GERD comes and goes. But you also have to alter your diet by finding out what it is you're eating that is causing the problem.
Avatar m tn Long term use of ne med will have an effect on our bodies....but in order to help heal the erosion of ur esophagus u will need to take it, but ur Dr should be monitoring u and ur blood labs to make sure u have supplements like Vit D. Once u wean off these meds and it should be a slow removal as u can experience rebound if u get off too quickly.
