prilosec

679466 tn?1247006054 My GI doc has put me on Prilosec daily 20 mg from now on. Is it safe to turn this acid production off for the rest of your life??
690060 tn?1247841741 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has new data showing that omeprazole (Prilosec/Prilosec OTC)—a medicine used to reduce stomach acid—reduces the anti-blood clotting effect of clopidogrel (Plavix) by almost half when these two medicines are taken by the same patient." "...Patients using clopidogrel should consult with their healthcare provider if they are currently taking or considering taking omeprazole, including Prilosec OTC" but then, there's also this: http://www.
Avatar n tn U may have an allergy to a compound in the prilosec which is a PPI, ask ur pharmacist if H2 blockers make work better......not sure what is in the prilosec u may be allergic to.
Avatar f tn About 2 months ago I started taking Prilosec for reflux. I then began to have a huge increase in the number of PVC's. Sometimes lasting all day. I've been on an event monitor for the past 2 weeks. I didn't even think that to relate this increase in PVC's to the Prilosec until about a week ago. I stopped the Prilosec and lo and behold the PVC's are gone or at least back to the minimal occurance that they were before.
Avatar n tn I have actually been on some form of reflux med for a bit longer than 5yrs and started with Prilosec OTC, then prescription Prilosec, Nexium, Aciphex, and briefly Prevacid. These days I tend to take whatever I have in my medicine cabinet (Aciphex or Prevacid) twice a day, max dosage, and occasionally a tagamet to help out. I have a hiatial hernia that is going to be fixed soon so I am hoping to get off the meds and that the side effects will eventually go away...I hope.
Avatar m tn I went to a doctor(general physician) and complained of stomach pain(I had anxiety) and said I had cold waves. The doc prescribed me to Prilosec. Never ever I had heard of the term heartburn or experienced it in my life until that point. Not knowing what I was suffering thru, 3rd day into the medicine I suffered from throat burn. Few more days I had sever burning sensation in my back and every google search text for my symptoms lead to the title GERD.
296025 tn?1233256719 Prevacid is a Protein Pump Inhibitor (PPI) like Aciphex, Nexium and Prilosec. It's indicated for GERD (chronic acid reflux) and as far as I know has nothing to do with treating Hep C, other than if you happen to have GERD. I believe Prilosec is a generic sold OTC but not 100% sure so speak to your doctor and pharmacist regarding switching off.
1654177 tn?1319838494 However, my doctor ays it should be fine to take Prilosec OTC. It is over the counter, and I usually take it every 6 - 9 moths, to keep indigestion from occuring. I took my last 2 week course of Prilosec OTC in March, and I am staring to experience heart burn / GERD again. I have my Pagysys and Ribivirin in hand, and I will do my first injection on 9/16. Has anyone else taken Prilosec OTC during TX, I don't want it to interfere with the TX.
Avatar n tn I just had this thought and would like to pose this question to you : Prilosec is considered a PPI drug isn't it? Do you happen to know if other drugs in this class carry the same risks as Prilosec does?
Avatar m tn According to the FDA plavix should not be take with prilosec or nexium. I'm not sure about any other ppi. Ask your Cardio or GI doc. They should be able to give you the infor you need. I am taking plavix and was on nexium. Had to go off it because of the FDA findings. Am now on pepcid You can also look on the FDA website for more info on that. Good luck.
822804 tn?1298226302 I was just diagnosed with acid reflux and was told to take my Prilosec on an empty stomach at 7am...however,I take my Synthroid and Cytomel at that time. Can you take them together?I asked the doctor but he didn't seem certain enough to make me feel comfortable with taking them together. To me it just doesn't seem right to take thyroid meds and acid reducers at the same time. Can anyone help please!
Avatar f tn I've been taking Prilosec for a month now, it started helping but then stopped. Then when I went to my doctor Thursday, she switched me to Protonix. If they are basically the same, could Protonix work for me if Prilosec OTC didn't? I'd really like to know because I've had this problem for almost 3 months now and I'm tired of eating plain food.
Avatar f tn I take prilosec daily for gerd, my doctor at standford is not concerned and about it at all.
Avatar m tn I even tried Prilosec a few times and it also worked for me. As long as i took 40mg PPI daily i could function. With PPI i can eat anything. My diet is very strict and i never touch street food, fast food, fatty, fried, spicy, carbonated drinks, no alcohol or cigarettes ever. Around November 2009 i completely eliminated from my diet bleached flour, high fructose corn syrup, fructose corn syrup, corn syrup. Eat mostly organic. Drink only water or pure organic carrot juice.
Avatar f tn htm#tocc Proton pump inhibitors The second type of drug developed specifically for acid-related diseases, such as GERD, was a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), specifically, omeprazole (Prilosec). A PPI blocks the secretion of acid into the stomach by the acid-secreting cells. The advantage of a PPI over an H2 antagonist is that the PPI shuts off acid production more completely and for a longer period of time.
Avatar f tn Most knowledgeable hepatologists prescribe proton pump inhibitor (PPI) drugs like Nexium or Prilosec. Both are generally considered liver friendly; omeprazole is available generically if cost is an issue.
646529 tn?1223616794 I too have experienced exactly the same thing, but my episodes are almost exclusively at night. It is usually my leg that feels numb though not my left arm. I'm currently on Prilosec (PPI) to treat the GERD. All of this started when the GERD started so hopefully treating the GERD will help the others go away as well.
Avatar f tn there sure are a bunch of us that have it...I take a PPI for it (Nexium) and it seems to keep it in check.
Avatar m tn Hi, I was on gabapentin and was on a PPI called Prilosec. If in doubt u should talk to ur Dr or pharmacist as they r better suited to inform u on drug interactions. They may inform u to take at diff times and what to avoid to help the meds aid u..... Did u develop the reflux once u started with the gabapentin or did u have it b4?
Avatar f tn Last year right after a colonoscopy which they gave me sorbitol as part of the prep, I almost immediately developed silent reflux. Ent put me on prilosec 40mg for about six months. I tapered off gradually. In early November I felt the need to go back on the prilosec hoping to only take it a couple of weeks. About that time I also decided to eat healthier and began replacing chips and cookies with apples. About a week after this I began getting heart skips after eating.
Avatar f tn I have constant GERD. I have been treated with Prilosec for 8 years, and the amount has had to be increased several times over the years. I am now taking 40 mg of Prilosec in the morning and 40 mg Prilosec in the evening. This has not been helping me, so I am now also taking Zantac 150 mg h.s. in addition to the 40 mg of Prilosec b.i.d. The head of my bed is on 2 x 4s to keep it elevated, and I sleep on 3 pillows at night.
Avatar f tn Is a constant cough and throat clearing a sign of reflux? I've had a cough and drainage for 4 months. Chest xray was clear. Antibiotics didn't help nor did 14 days of Prilosec. I'm lost for a diagnosis. Suggestions??
Avatar f tn The best medicines I have been prescribed are Nexium and Protonix. Protonix has a generic available so is inexpensive and works perfectly for me. Studies have shown Nexium to be consistently the most effective but it is more expensive and not always covered by every health insurance plan. United Healthcare for example does not cover Nexium.
Avatar m tn If so are H2 meds like Pepcid and Zantac ok, or are PPI meds like Prilosec and Prevacid better? Thanks and have a great day!
