Prilosec gastritis

Common Questions and Answers about Prilosec gastritis

prilosec

Avatar f tn I have been having some GI issues for almost 2 months now and was first diagnosed with Gastritis. For the Gastritis I was given 15 days worth of Prilosec. While on the Prilosec (and before) I had diarrhea and loose stools every day. Being as I was having that before, I never attributed it to the Prilosec but now I'm questioning whether or not the Prilosec contributed to the loose bowel movements as I am now back on Prilosec and am having loose stools once again.
Avatar m tn Is there an appropriate way of getting off of Prilosec? I have been taking it for almost two months and starting to think that all the symptoms I am experiencing are from the Prilosec. After all GI test have come back normal and all the test from my regular physician have come back normal, I want to quit Prilosec. The first month I was taking one 20mg pill in the morning and one 20mg at night. Now I am only taking one 20mg pill a day. Do I quit cold turkey?
Avatar m tn My doctor told me to take an aspirin a day. Two weeks ago I developed gastritis symptoms. I stopped the aspirin and my doctor told me to take Prilosec. She said "when you damage your stomach lining it may take a while to heal". Aspirin stopped for two weeks now and taking Prilosec for one week. Still have gastritis symptoms. Should I be freaking out? Anybody know what kind of recovery time to expect from aspirin induced gastritis? Are we talking days or months?

Avatar n tn My doctor has prescribed Prilosec for gastritis I have developed after having the stomach flu two weeks ago. If gastritis is caused by H-Pylori, wouldn't it seem that antibiotics should be prescribed to kill off the bad bacteria?
963268 tn?1312900315 Today, I take one Prilosec, 20-mg, and I have no pain. If you have gastritis and are not taken medication specifically for gastritis, your stomach lining can become worst, and you might develop an ulcer. If I were you, I would require your doctor, not his office staff, to confirm whether or not you have/had an ulcer caused by H. pylori? Also, inquire whether an acid reducer like Prilosec, Zantac, Nexium, Prevacid is prescribed for you?
Avatar n tn Alright, inflammed gastric tissues is gastritis but "gastric juices inflammed" doesn't exist. What other problems are you having?
Avatar f tn Prilosec and Nexium is for heartburn. Prilosec is taken over a 14 day period and can only be taken every 4 months. Not sure about dosing for Nexium but Prilosec is often prescribed because it is over the counter.
Avatar f tn t continue my normal life, i am only 18 and very desperate and upset because of nausea. So how could this mild gastritis cause so severe symptom? Is really caused by gastritis ,????i suspect there is other thing going on.
Avatar n tn He does occasionally complain of indigestion, and has almost completely stopped eating them. The prilosec has helped too.
Avatar m tn I have been diagnosed with having gastritis about a month ago after having an EGD with gastric biopsies. The report says I have mild non-specific gastritis in a bed of "excessive stromal fibrosis". Does anybody know what "excessive stromal fibrosis"? Please help.
Avatar f tn I'm just about to start treating my gastritis, but want to make sure I'm taking the right thing to fight it. Do mastic gum, DGL licorice, slippery elm, and OTC products like Prilosec or Prevacid, etc. cause loose stools? I'm prone to loose stools and don't want the problem to get worse. Thanks for any help and suggestions!
Avatar m tn I've been having problems for months. I have been diagnosed with gastritis and gal stones as being the root of the problems. This morning I went to the bathroom and my stool was green and brown in color, but some was coated in a yellow liquid. Should I be concerned? I'm going to the Dr. on Monday, but I was wondering if there was an urgent need to go on in? I'm taking 2 prilosec(20mg) everyday, and last night i took a bentyl(20mg).
Avatar m tn ) He could try to take a prilosec ... or other heartburn indigestion medication :) good luck!
Avatar n tn I am not a physician, however, I have had the same sensation in my throat, as well as gastritis, and the sensation in my throat has been attributed to gastric reflux (acid from the stomach going up into the esophagus). I took Pariet (rabeprazole) and it helped with the throat lump and gastritis. (However, I stopped taking it because I felt it slowed down my digestion and I was having a lot of abdominal distension - and still am (I am frustrated that has not yet been diagnosed).
Avatar f tn t see the correlation between Prilosec and your symptoms. Prilosec is to reduce acid in your stomach from GERD (acid reflux) and the symptoms of GERD are indigestion, burning in the throat and sometimes stomach acid backing up in your throat...you don't mention these symptoms. You really need to see a GI doctor and get your stomach scoped, and don't wait because it takes awhile to get in to see one. Keep us posted!
Avatar f tn She has also been diagnosed with gastritis, and for the most part has it under control, lately though she had a pretty bad flare up and we ve tried, prilosec and mylanta, which have definitely helped. Today though she woke up with a sore throat and when she went to eat, she couldn't, her tongue would sting. Has anyone experienced this before too? If so what are some recommendations?? Any suggestions will be welcomed. Thanks guys.
Avatar m tn I was hoping you guys could help me.I was having some minor stomach issues. swallowing was a little hard, so I went to the DR. We did a endoscope. He found: H. Pylori associated moderate chronic gastritis with some signs of intestinal metaplasia. Right now I'm taking the Prevpac (triple therapy) for the bacterium. Will this type of gastritis eventually resolve itself when the bacterium is removed?
Avatar f tn found I had mild gastritis I was breastfeeding, so I waited till 2011, around July to treat my gastritis. Dr. told me to take Prilosec, which I did for 1 month. Somehow, my short of breath seems to be related to stomach discomfort, although I was diagnosed with asthma in 2009 when I consulted my breathing difficulty. I am sorry English is not my first language, so I can't really express everything I should. With these symptoms above, what are my problems?
Avatar n tn Sissygirl, please consider getting some testing done for the presence of H. pylori the bacterium implicated in the development of acid reflux/gastritis if this has been going on for some time. In addition, gallbladder issues can also produce the symptoms you're describing, so that might also have to be evaluated.
Avatar n tn * What is the relationship between gastritis and GERD....is it that gastritis can cause GERD, or is it more the other way around -- that GERD leads to gastritis? * Is it common for people to have recurrent gastritis and NOT have H-Pylori? * Does EMOTIONAL stress/anxiety cause gastritis flare-ups? Back in December, it was like an acute episode...cam eon suddenly and lasted 4 days or so. This time, it's more a general feeling and it's lasted for a few weeks.
Avatar n tn Hi Mitch: I really feel for you and can relate BIG time!!! You just have me beat by one yr. as far as feeling badly. I hope the carafate works, Is that for bile reflux?? If so it may help as I have read that (prilosec, nexium, prevacid) I think they call them PPI's dont work on Bile. What is unbelievable is if the Dr. see's the bile WHY do they always prescribe the ppi ??? Now I have learned on this board it can do more harm then good!!!
