Prilosec for asthma

Common Questions and Answers about Prilosec for asthma

prilosec

Avatar n tn I have read conflicting information on whether GERD can actually cause shortness of breath. I'm 38, male, smoker, placed on Prilosec last week by my GP. Since I began taking the Prilosec (20mgs per day), I've had several episodes of disturbing shortness of breath...they happen at different times of the day and aren't associated with any physical exertion. I wasn't actually choking or gasping for air, but my chest definitely tightened and every breath felt very shallow.
Avatar f tn actually medicaid will pay for protonix or a generic version of it...I had gotten it filled three X just recently.
Avatar f tn once the cat passed away (20yrs old) so did her asthma improve ten-fold and so did her reflux .. Prilosec worked for her. Have you considered a total food elimination diet ? That would be total and add in one more thing ev. 3 days .... not just making changes here or there ? Sometimes that will pinpoint the severe allergy/intolerance?
Avatar f tn hi i have severe gerd and asthma getting worse today doctor put me onzantac prilosec ventalin and symbicort the divorcesymbicort felt like it froze my lungs when inhaled since then breathing got worse and middle of back hurts is this other normal
Avatar n tn When you go to your pulmanologist they can do several test for asthma. It seems that when you are an adult the best way to test for asthma is a methacoline challenge test (according to my doc). I took all of the regular test using albuteral and they never found asthma. After the first round on the methacoline challenge test they already knew I had asthma. After the second they had to stop the test. It took me 3 doctors to finally diagnose it so be persistent.
1717741 tn?1310779105 Hello Ghars, I too have GERD and Barretts Esoughagus and Asthma. You may need to get on daily meds for the GERD (Prilosec, Aciphex, etc.) and a daily inhaled steroid like Symbicort. Talk to your Dr.
Avatar f tn found I had mild gastritis I was breastfeeding, so I waited till 2011, around July to treat my gastritis. Dr. told me to take Prilosec, which I did for 1 month. Somehow, my short of breath seems to be related to stomach discomfort, although I was diagnosed with asthma in 2009 when I consulted my breathing difficulty. I am sorry English is not my first language, so I can't really express everything I should. With these symptoms above, what are my problems?
981046 tn?1248587175 Before and after the diagnosis she has chronic dry coughing around 20 to 30 times an hour, day and night. After another doctors visit checking for asthma she was also diagnosed with several allergies. Allergy shots have been administered weekly over the past 4 to 5 months and there has been no improvement for the constant coughing . What other medications, remedies, suggestions can we take at this time??? She do not have asthma and has never smoked. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Avatar n tn However, an optimum trial for asthma would include an inhaled steroid drug along with albuterol. And a trial of therapy of GERD would optimally include a drug in a class of drugs called Proton Pump Inhibitors, for example Omeprazole (Prilosec). In addition, there are additional, non-pharmacologic steps one can take in the treatment of GERD such as dietary restrictions, smoking cessation and alteration in sleeping position (elevation of the head of the bed).
1407713 tn?1290933275 I am nervous because last time I had these symptoms I ended up in the ER with an asthma attack. This time I would like to try and prevent this from happening. I also have a hiatal hernia and antihistamines of all kinds make my stomach really upset. What can I take at night? I have been taking 1 60mg of Allegra during the day and today I took Sudafed. Tonight however, I don't know if I should take Benydry so I can sleep because I heard that it can be bad for people with asthma.
387660 tn?1242596742 This is almost always post-viral healing which mimics asthma..see a pulmonary doctor. He or she will understand this issue well and help make sure other problems don't exist.
Avatar n tn I do have acid reflux and take prilosec 2x a day, I also have to have my esphagus stretched . Maybe this is what it is. But it scares me so much. Not for this in particular but in the past 5 months and as early as a month ago, I have had a chest xray, 3 EKG'S, ECHO W/contrast, and a abdominal ct scan, Would these tests show this area where I get this soreness?
Avatar n tn Am wondering if this is a heartburn/reflux thing since I DO have heartburn and take Prilosec for ....but what is the cough and funny taste and wheezing from. Could I possibly have an infection that won't go away? Asthma? Any suggestions? I'm getting very frustrated! Thank you in advance!
1386586 tn?1279620756 Many people have acid reflux without the stereo typical symptom of heart burn. It is commonly miss diagnosed as asthma. You can try some OTC treatments like Prilosec or Zantac. Also, do a quick search on life style changes that help acid reflux - not eating within 4 hours of going to bed, raising the head of your bed 6 inches, avoiding caffeine and chocolate... I pray that you find answers soon.
Avatar n tn Well, i tried experimenting by taking Prilosec for 2 weeks (instead of Nexium, which i had been taking successfully for about 5 years). I found the Prilosec to be not as effective as Nexium. In the 2-week period, i took one pill each morning after waking up. I had acid-reflux symptoms (i.e. acid pain in my upper stomach area) about 3 or 4 times within the 2-week period.
Avatar n tn I get asthma that is a real breathless asthma but without the wheeze. Also my peak flows seem to be still good when I get the asthma symptoms. At the same time I get a very bloated stomach, almost distended like I am pregnant and some dull pain in my abdomen (usually on the right hand side). My abdomen becomes tender near the liver region. I do have a gall polyp that could be contributing to it but this is very very small. I have been tested for HPylori and it was negative.
Avatar n tn I did take antibiotics when the mucus situation did not clear up on its own-it was bioxin and between that and the cortisteriods I was taking for my asthma I developed trush which thankfully I was able to clear up within 3 days-and so far no reappearance.
Avatar f tn My doctor thought it may be asthma, so I used inhalers for awhile, but we ran more tests and discovered the inhalers have not helped. I was sent to get my heart checked out, but everything was normal. I was told I have low blood pressure so I was recommended to take salt tablets before exercise. We went back to the doctor who then prescribed Prilosec. The Prilosec along with the salt tablets haven't seemed to help much either.
454221 tn?1259445739 Chronic Chlamydia infection has been implicated in instances of asthma, relatively refractory to asthma therapy, but the odds are that the Chlamydia is not a factor; either in your asthma or as a cause of tonsillar enlargement. Our advice remains the same. That unilateral tonsillar enlargement, especially in the presence of negative bacterial cultures, is rarely on the basis of allergy, and should be approached in the same way as any other mass in the body.
Avatar m tn I have had asthma for a every long time and my throat is swollen so it is even harder for me the breathe in this weather which temperature is up to 90 degrees F. It feels like i have something stuck in my throat and no way to get it unstuck. I also have a very difficult time swallowing, and every time i drink any type of drink my throat seem to get dry and it is very annoying. If there is any fast cure please post a to this.
Avatar m tn Some common causes of chronic cough include asthma, allergic rhinitis, sinus problems (for example sinus infection),post nasal drip and esophageal reflux of stomach contents(GERD). Infections such as bronchitis or pneumonia can cause coughing. These infections can be caused by virus, bacteria or fungus. Try raising the head of your mother’s bed about four inches with blocks. It also might help to avoid eating or drinking for two hours before you lie down.
Avatar m tn Went to see a gastroenterologist went through all these tests and the G.I. Doc said it was a hiatal hernia. I take Prilosec for this annoying problem(which sometimes helps) I hope your problem gets better. Best hopes and God Blesses.
1346429 tn?1303874854 Prilosec is fabulous!! I take singular (asthma), protonix (for ulcer), prenatal plus dha, zoloft (for anxiety) and vicodein for 2 spinal fractures and a pelvic fracture. All considered safe. I have low bp but dr said now with zofran to stop me from puking I should be better bp wise and hypoglycemia should be better controlled.
Avatar n tn I do have asthma/ chronic rhinitis. And Gerd along with this , makes for a awful times. I am also on Zoloft for anxiety, this too doesn't help with everything else. I had the ENT visit which was fine, bloodwork which was great, and a EKG which was great. I am just scared/worried..
